I want everyone's opinion on this. I have been thinking and heard from numerous people, that 400hp is too much for a 19/20yr old kid(will be 19 by the summer). So do you guys think 400bhp is too much for a 19yr old kid? If so, post and tell me if you think 300hp is too much, or what is a good max hp car you would let your 19-21yr old kid have. Been thinking about this ever since I decided no more racing. Thanks ahead for the input!

+1 on the maturity level. physically a 20 yearold has the potential to be a better drive then a 40 yearold, quicker reflexes, and vision and what not but experience does help. i say 400 is fine

i think its fine as long as no one revs at you, thats when the 19 year old mentality kicks in and you go after him lol. im only 17 and im happy with the power i have in my car right now. now im just working on more suspension to get it to the ground better.

Rear lower control arms? Or are you waiting for a t-lok and gears? Either way, t-lok and/or control arms will help you with traction a lot.
Generally speaking, yes. But it is really a subjective question. You can drive like an idiot no matter how much horsepower you have. Maturity of the driver has alot to do with it. I was lucky enough not to have gotten in any serious trouble with my old car when I was younger and it only had 160hp. Not all cars will handle the same with a give horsepower, a 450hp Mustang for example will be much more difficult to drive then say an Audi RS6. I'm 24, and have had my car for over a year now, but it still manages to scare me sometimes when I do aggressive driving. My brother has a Cobra with 520whp that I can honestly say I'm afraid to drive.

EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE, EXPERIENCE!!!......the earlier comment about a kid having quicker reflexes can be true but what good is quicker reflexes when you have no knowledge/experience? i agree about the maturity level playing a factor on the age. if an 18 year old shows more maturity than a 28 year old, then age does not matter at all in that situation. the thing is, how many 18 years are really that mature?.....not many. they themselves realize how stupid they used to think at 18 when they get to be 28 or older......i did.
one more thing.....in general, they will appreciate that kind of power at an older age MUCH MORE than when they are still teenagers. JMO.

These V6 mustangs are perfect for the teen driver. Theres really not enough power to kill yourself without trying, and theres enough power for some fairly safe fun (jackrabbit starts from lights, lane changes, etc) Its all about being mature though. If you're not going to drive like a jerk-off all the time and your going to be safe for most of your driving, 400 is fine. Its good power for the track. But yes, when someone revs at you, I really see no harm in flexing the muscle a bit provided the conditions are ideal. I usually only take those challenges on this one road where the speed limit is 55, where its 2 lanes with a bunch of lights. Race to 60 and cut it. Its when you decide to race to 130-140 where its dangerous.

If I had 400hp when I was 19, I would be dead right now...lol...thats cuz I was a dumb kid and thought that I was invincible.
Now...its a different story... I'm a wise old 26 year old with aspirations of 700rwhp for my stang ...when I get the $, my baby will be forged with a TT set up!
I was thinking what most of you guys are, 400hp is a lot of power for a 19yr old. I can't believe it never crossed my mind when I was thinking about a supercharger. I think I will wait for that kind of power when I'm more experienced and mature. 300hp, I think is a better idea, but that might even be a little too much. I'm leaning towards now, either a full bolt-on engine, suspension, and chassis(sorta like boss's car) 4.0 or, isurance permitting an 05-06 GT with a stick and do little mods over time(as I mature). Do you think this is a better plan? Really now that I think about it, this seems more reasonable. Good Idea?
Keep your current car, bolt it up some more and use the search feature here. Do you really have this much of a hard time making decisons? It seems you start mulitple threads about the same thing to try to come up with a decision. Most members here only need one thread to hash out the facts, then they make a decision and go for it. Be it FI, trade in for a v8, whatever.

Sorry about the multiple threads thing, I take a lot of time and am very finicky in making decisions. Since insurance is gonna be high on a GT, and I've already put about $4k in my car, a fully bolt-on 4.0 sounds fun and like a good project. The really fun part is that I will have $5k to spend by May on my car.. Here's a little bit of my plans so far(not gonna start another thread): -Zabteck Throttle Body-$325(I think) -JBA/Motoblue 9mm ignotion wires $80 -Underdrive Crank Pulley $200-$300 w/belt(I think I will need a new belt) -Screaming Demon Coil Pack $? -C&L CAI-$300 or WMS Ram Air System-$350 -Dyno Tune $200 -Torque Converter possibly $? install-$? Chassis: -BMR Tubular K-Member $500 weight loss -BMR Front Sway delete/Radiator Support $170 weight loss -Maybe Tubular A-Arms That's what I'm thinking right now. I might consider heads and cam, but right now it looks like they aren't worth it ($3.5k+ install and tune for little gain). Thanks guys for all the help and input!

I think based on the amount of thought you seem to put into this whole thing that you would probably be OK with as much HP as you could afford. Most guys your age would not have even thought about it enough to ask the question. The fact that you asked it shows a certain amount of maturity in my opinion. Go for it, and enjoy whatever you decide to do.

Is this a joke?
SteelStang05, how is your driving record? You mentioned in another thread you paid close to $300/month for insurance.

I'm 18, car's insured under my name, clean driving record: never pulled over by a cop, never got a parking ticket, never got any type of ticket. Put around 7k-10k miles on my car a yr and have had this car for about half a year.
