I'm 18, car's insured under my name, clean driving record: never pulled over by a cop, never got a parking ticket, never got any type of ticket. Put around 7k-10k miles on my car a yr and have had this car for about half a year.
nice, keep it up. i've yet to get pulled over for any driving violations (knock on wood) but i have gotten PLENTY of parking tickets. parking in the city is a B**CH!!.....street sweeper patrol are the scum of the earth!...
+1. I knew an 18yr old kid in high school with a 230HP modded Maxima and a 130IQ. Crashed it twice in 1 year. Once from racing and another just in regular driving. Both accidents his fault. IQ has nothing to do with it. Driving has to do with experience, reflexes, eyesight, and awareness of your surroundings. I've already avoided a couple accidents by watching people w/o turn signals not look over their shoulder when changing lanes and almost hit me. Thank God I am a very safe driver and always aware of the cars and drivers around me.

I'm 18 too, and I'll tell ya, when you have the car under your own name and your paying that insurance yourself, its a great incentive to never speed (I'll never go 5 mph over the limit, except when passing). I couldn't imagine trying to get the money to pay for hiked up insurance just for driving like a jerk

you can be stupid in any kind of car, with any amount of power, it is not really a matter of that. you need to make sure you can actually control the car. I learned to drive on this car, and 210hp was a lot already. however, now I can totally handle the f/i no problem. it is all about experience. also, driving in the rain/snow is something that is totally different, so just because you can drive on dry days doesn't mean you can handle it in bad conditions.
Well I realize that but if he really does have all those mods and has only had the car for 6 months, they all must have been on the car when he bought it. Anyone else think that it is kinda ironic that all his mods are all the mods that are the most talked about on this forum? And I have never seen him post a pic of his car either?

hmmm.....never thought of that . i got my duals and intake/tuner less than 2 months after i bought my stang. but then it took me bout a year and half to finally upgrade to the c&l and custom tunes. its possible but at his age, money must not be obstacle.
Im 19 and going to turn 20 in june, and ive has an escort(4 cyl) Sc'ed 6 cyl GTP(300 hp) a 71 mustang( 300 hp) and now an 06GT(300 hp) and im pretty sure that 300 is a good #, and it depends on the platform. MY GTP was a lot safer, front wheel drive auto and handled and just pulled smoothly. MY GT is a 5 speed so it can really cause problems when u get tirespin because of fishtailing. Ive spun every car ive had atleast once( not on pourpouse) and it has only claimed my 06 GT because there was a guardrail there. I guess practice is the key, but i started out with a 4 cyl then a 6 cyl, and now 8's and im learning. But starting off with a FWD 300 hp and moving to a 300HP RWD 5 speed is so much different! ID say stick to 300 and learn "stunt" driving, then go up to higher HP. Check on you tube for a mustang outrunning cops, He spins, does a reverse 180 then comes back and the cops do it 3 more times! Thats skill and you can do some sweet driving even without the HP. With 300 hp in my descression, i do drive bad, im amazed im still alaive, been over 145 hundreds of times drove an avg of 120 through 2 states( fried a set of GTP brakes) and will take almost any race even if i know ill lose. Cops have been nice enough to let me go cause i have a "nice car" or so they tell me. But with 300 Hp its enough temptation to use it a good and im sure id get pulled over or hurt with more HP and less traction. Just a 19 year old that likes to push his muscle( 99% of the time it works out fine- but that other 1% is just stupidness, balls and want to showoff) -Jon

I will agree that experience plays a major factor when speaking of driving such a powerful vehicle on public roads where others drivers are present. Younger people have less fear and can do great things when properly trained/educated, I have no doubt a "seasoned" 18-20 y/o can handle such power, it's just the learning of the other drivers' tendencies where having less miles under your belt will be a disadvantage. Practice, practice, practice is all I can say, the better trained to handle such a car(and maybe taking it to a closed track to explore the car's limits), the better prepared a younger person will be to deal with the lack of "experience". Knowing the consequences of abusing such a powerful vehicle should be something that everyone, regardless of age, must be aware of.

I want everyone's opinion on this. I have been thinking and heard from numerous people, that 400hp is too much for a 19/20yr old kid(will be 19 by the summer). So do you guys think 400bhp is too much for a 19yr old kid? If so, post and tell me if you think 300hp is too much, or what is a good max hp car you would let your 19-21yr old kid have. Been thinking about this ever since I decided no more racing. Thanks ahead for the input!
may i ask you, From what ? are u getting 400 hp? and imao ill depends on your maturity level.

Only you can decide if the HP is too much for you. There seems to be this notion among some that this car has to have 400 to 500 rwhp to be enjoyed. I don't knock that way of thinking because it's all relative to what you're used to. If you are a safe driver no amount of power is too much for you. Personally my goal is to get to 350rwhp N/A and put more focus on my tunes and suspension. After my intake and tune I was more satisfied with the throttle response and drivability than the power increase. I actually am looking forward to 3:73 gears and upper/lower control arms, not to mention those nitto 555r drag radials. I've got control issues if you can't already tell. Anyway, you sound like a really smart kid that would do the right thing so, more power to you. No pun intended!
