I recently purchased a 2003 cobra, Ive come to know it as the terminator. Well my questions are this, Id like to do some serious performance mods and id like to know some easy upgrades to make this thing stand out from the others. ive heard people talk about pulley's and heat exchanger's, anyone familiar with those??? Also when i really give it gas from a stop position im getting really bad wheel hop, if anyone knows what can prevent that id love to learn. But as you can tell this is all new to me, i just sold my 1995 5.0 mustang GT, So this cobra is something new for me. Thanks for all the help i really do appreciate it.
Side note, im really interested in adding more horsepower and just becomming much quicker.... Id like to become an 11 second car... what do i have to do....

Is the car stock? If so a 2.8 pulley and tune will be a big kick in the pants. If you go that route go ahead and get an idler to reduce belt slip. As for wheel hop not sure how to stop it, but I hear that is one of the reasons for breaking half shafts. Good luck. Lewis.

Well I just bought my 03', and it has a pulley, chip, tune, full exhaust, bigger throttle body, cold air intake...and the car dynoed 470whp/465ft tq. Needless to day, the car pulls like a mad man!

With the standard intake, exhaust, pulley, and tune, you can hit at least around mid 11s, but you certainly aren't going to stand out since almost every modded Cobra has all of that done. That'll put you at around 450 RWHP. If you want to step it up a little more without spending a whole lot you can get the supercharger ported and be at 500+ RWHP and probably low 11s (don't know the exact quarter times). Then again, you need to grip to get any of that, so get a set of mild DRs for street use on your car and you'll stick to the road a lot better and reduce your wheel hop. I'm getting a set of 555rs for mine because they are just about perfect for the 450-500 HP range and aren't so soft that they'll be gone in a month.
Thanks for all the great replies, what is the best size pulley i should look into getting and what is the best type of pulley and idler to get?? from where??? My car is not exactly stock, i have what has been done to it in the bottom of my post. Does anyone also know if a heat exchanger is necessary? How do you go about porting a blower?

Get a set of Drag Radials to help with the wheel hop. Just do a upper pulley(2.76) CAI and Exhaust with a Dyno tune for starters, that will get you up over 400rwp.. Dont forget to do a IRS brace, it is very........important. Start there. Oh and it wont stop there, it is very addictive.

I dont see any pullied and ported cobras runing low 11's with that being the only mod... even high 11's are few and far between
With the basic intake, exhaust, pulley, port, tune, etc, getting you to 500 or so horsepower, you can definitely run an 11.5, and I'm sure lower depending on the driver, track, etc. The point is, with a ported and pullied S/C and just bolt ons, I think you should definitely be able to get low 11s before you have to spend thousands to change the S/C or go turbo or something.

2.2??? Also 2.76 will be alright, its not to small? Where is the best place to purchase one?
By 2.2 KB he means the 2.2L Kenne Bell supercharger. Then again, they don't even make those anymore.
A 2.76 would be good. I have a 2.8, not much difference between the two, well, 4 hundreths of an inch to be exact. I think a lot of people around here really like the Billetflow pulleys. I'm not sure what store carries them off the top of my head, but if you look around online at some different Mustang stores you should find them. Actually, it looks like you can order it directly from them.

you should read the tech articles about pullies and porting, very interesting ramifications of messing with the m112, esp coupled with IRS... just curious what times have you gotten out your cobra?

Me? I haven't run mine yet. Plus, I will tell you right now that I'll need a bit of practice to launch this thing. Nice thing is that the rear end should take just about any launch I can give it.
I have not run it yet, im concerned with the wheel hop thats one main reason i have not taken it to the track. The person who i bought it from said he ran it with low 12's but he had on drags. With the pulley situation, should i get a lower and upper or just upper for now. Id like to just do everything when i can you know?

Wheel hop. As SOON as you feel it, get out of the gas!
You need drag radials on this car. A set of BFG's or Nitto's will help eliminate the wheel hop in stock or near stock form.

When I had the eaton on my car I purchased my pulley, belt, idler pulley and custom tune from RWTD (runninwiththedevil). I was very happy with their service and the tune was spot on. I don't think you will be diappointed with them. Good luck, Lewis.
If you want to see 11's i reccomend going to stage 3-4 ported blower, with a 4# 2.93 pulley combo, you will need bigger injectors, mafia, bap, intake exhaust mid- pipe back, and drag radials at least to have hopes of 11's, unless you are a great driver and want to powershift your way to a burned out clutch in a hurry. I was able to run in the 11's with 1.8-2.0 60's and just speed shifting. with the above mentioned combo i made 522rwhp and 498rwtq.

You should try slicks next time. I'd love to run some slicks sometime with my rear end and see how hard I can launch it.
