umm, if you actually take the chip of the auto you can make it faster than the manually. But if it is stock vs stock, then I will probable go with manual. But also remeber if depends on the driver and if with Auto you want to start at 1 and move up yourself to 2 then 3 then D. (It does make a differenct.)

So, are you messing with the chips? And how are the drivers, a bad (newbie) shifter vs auto, I think Auto.

I think it depends on the driver in a manual... but if you have a good driver, the manual will win. It just allows for greater control and more accelaration rather than an auto. Most cars here in Britain are manual. I'd only have an auto if I had arthritus or something that made it painful to change gears.

well i have read several reviews and both state the auto and manual do 0-60 in 5.1 seconds for the new 2005 gts now as for older model cars and stuff and other model vehicles i dont no about which is better but from what i gave read the 05s manual or auto do it in same time

1. I own an '03 AODE.
2. I would get spanked by '03 5-speeds
3. I own a Diablo Predator.
4. I would still get spanked bya lot of '03 5-speeds, even with my shifts "tuned" to the max pressure and points with the Predator.

I feel confident that a "built" auto transmission could put a hurtin' to most 5-speed drivers. However, there will still be some out there that could pull off a better run.

Besides, aren't autos heavier too?

Take care,
Ceyko

i skipped 4 pages, what did i miss hahaha. i have an auto, and here is my opinion, auto's are more consistant, yes! but....if the person driving th manual knows what they are doing they should win. there is a greater power loss for the autos than the manuals... case closed. so basically mod ur auto or get owned by manual

Yeah there over ten years old but still these days a manual would beat an automatic think about shift at higher rpms in a manual it doesnt have set shift points yeah if its a beefed a up auto i can see it but when it comes to stock a manual would win hands down simple as that.

Id say it all comes down to the driver, being that you could most likely launch the Standard harder then the Auto, but then shifting consistently come into play, but lets just say a person's that good to shift perfect everytime the standard won win. But there is drive error and the computer is the nearest thing to being perfect but nothings perfect not even the computer (the car would shift when it wants to shift the car does change its shift points to get the fastest ET)

Manual:
Advantage:

  • Shift were the car make the most power (or your able to just shift when you want to not when to car does)
  • being able to launch @ a higher RPM (you could launch @ say 3500 in a Manual vs. 3000 in an Auto)

Disadvantages:

  • Time it takes to shift (i.e. 1-2, and even with a short-throw an Auto shifts faster)
  • Inconsistincy (unless your good like some people are)

Auto:
Advantage:

  • Consistency (no matter what the an Auto will be more consistent)
  • Shifting is quicker

Disadvantages:

  • The car picks when to shift
  • Launch is lower that a Manual (unless you have a built up trans. but then it wouldn't be stock)

But like I said it depends on the driver heavily, but Id say the Auto because most people (or good drivers anyway) shift in their Auto's (1-Low, 2-High, D) so its like having the best of both worlds lol
but that's just what I think.

And every one has a right to their own opinion so if someone say's Manual but you think Auto's don't jump down there trouts its there opinion

Dude your pathetically wrong, when ur car is standard, A. u control the shifts at certain rpms, speeds etc etc. and 2 a stock automatic transmission... and again i reitterate STOCK will always have a period of lag from when u hit the gas to when it actually reacts to you hitting the gas. In a standard, u hit the gas and the car goes. The standard wins

you also have to factor in the fact that an auto is usually 4 speed...a stick 5 speed so the gearing is different...of course a really built auto would be faster because it is computer controled but the stick for the most part on street is going to be fast stock vs. stock

Look Guys I am sooooo Sorry for bringing this up again but this thread was not piontless look at the various opinions that have came across!! First things first technolgy is amazing, and the new trannies are real kick ass both auto and Man, being both cars equiped with 3:73 gears and the same wieght... therefore run on a 1/4 tank of gas and take the spare tire and jack out should be about right in regards to wieght, I seriously think the auto might winn with everyday drivers in both. Is going to be phucking close anyways. And I am not biased at all I had a 01 Gt with a stick and now have a 88 with an auto had the best of both worlds. There was this one time I raced an 88 Stick( the guy was pretty bad) all I had done to my car was no cats into some ravin mufflers at the time, other guy had bassani exaust, MAF and 70mm TB CAI, I lost to him in the 1/4 by MAYBE a foot. There is WAY to many factors involved with sticks. Thats why this dude has a piont you would have to run like 10 times to get a good conclussion.

Any Other Thoughts?

Schwindt
