well i was driving on the highway today and my buddy pulls up next to me in his 93 z28 and he guns it a little so i go to down shift and as soon as i get the clutch all the way in i hear a pop and feel it in the clutch and now the clutch is looser than it was before and it won't go into any gear. i think its the clutch spring but i'm not sure. i got the car about 3 weeks ago and i have a 3 month warranty on it so i shouldn't have to pay for it. if you guys think its anything else let me know thanks.

sounds like ur throw out bearing took a sh!t,

throw out fork might be broken mine broke i couldnt get any gears and i agree with the other guy throw out bearing is prob bad it might have mest up the forks on the pressure plate

Only one problem with that...

Clutch is a wear and tear item... it's probably not covered.

Are you sure the cable hasnt snapped? A clutch isnt that bad of a job, with proper tools it should only take about 3 hours.. Dont forget to resurface the flywheel

i don't think its the clutch because the clutch was brand new. i think its the transmission not the clutch now, but the car is at the dealership right now and i haven't heard from them yet. i hope its just an easy fix, but it probably isn't.

probably a clutch cable. should have tried to start it in first see if it was engaged. i just had to put a clutch in my car and the cable didnt snap, but stretched enough to where i couldnt put it in any gear. so i just started it in first or reverse, and shifted without a clutch.

that reassures me that its not the transmission now, cause that is what mine is doing. i did try to put it in reverse with it running and the clutch in and it was grinding. well i hope its just a cable or spring, it would be an easy fix then.

the dealership called me and they think that the clutch went bad. does the clutch make a pop when it goes out?

it can. when i ****ed up my clutch, i was sittin there in 2nd just doin a brakestand. then pop. engine completely stopped and all. crunk it back up with no clutch. pulled the trans and clutch out later that week after i drove it home. pressure plate was shattered in 3 peices. disc was partially melted on one side, 1 of the points on the flywheel was broken off ,another was bent and had to be broken off for installation of the new clutch. and i think that happened because it was already cracked and i didnt know about it. til i ****ed it way up. but in your case i dont think it is the clutch unless u got a really cheap one.

the clutch has only 18,xxx miles on it and its supposed to be a performance clutch. before the clutch went out it was really stiff. so idk.

i had the same problem went to race my friends ls1 trans am. and my 3rd gear sync is fudged so as i went to shift into 3rd it wouldent go in and my clutch pedal just fell to the floor and i had no gears. my friend behind me said he seen a big puff of black smoke come from under the car. i could only get it into gear when the car was off not started.

needless to say i blew it up

thats the same thing that mine does, goes in when its off but doesn't when its running.

Got news from the dealership. It needs a new clutch, throw out bearing, and the flywheel resurfaced. total cost of $670 and the new clutch is going to have a 1 year warranty on it from carquest.

im sorry im just not buying that. i think the dealership is gettin ur money. did they say exactly what broke? pressure plate? i see they didnt recommend a fork or cable so what actually failed? also 01 snake, you blew what up, the clutch or the whole engine?

if they mentioned that all 3 need to be replaces, then probably its just the throw out bearing that went out......

cost me 890 WTF from the dealership

and my dad was set on getting it from there becuase of the warrenty. BUT GUESS WHAT if you abuse it i.e, drop, down shift bad. ect. the will not warrenty it

shoulda just had them put a spec atge 3 in for same cost

well i can't afford a spec stage 3 clutch right now, kinda short on cash. plus i need my car back as soon as i can get it. he said the clutch went out and hes putting a new throw out bearing in with it. he didn't say the bearing went out. i havent really abused the car, i've only raced it twice.
