Get a cai from eBay and save yourself 120$ or so.....

Their are no cheap ways to effectively improve hp other than nitrous.

eBay ... approx. $50, shipped.  You can do a search for the following terms: 99 Mustang 3.8 Cold Air

Make sure any seller you're interested in has a lot of feedback (I suggest around 99-percent positive because you can't please everyone) before you bid/buy online.  There are plenty of installation instructions for these kits online (with good photos & suggestions) if you want to research the install/fitment before you dive in.  It's a minor modification, but the easiest Hp/$$ you'll get.

Do it ... you won't be sorry.

wow great price. So is there really much of a difference between different manufactors of these cai's or is it all the same ?  I'm just trying to figure out why the price varies so much. From like $179 on americanmuslce to $50 on ebay.

The main price difference is the chrome peices. The chrome on the cheaper kits tend to fade a bit over time, while the more expensive kits keep their shine.

+1, not to mention that the hoses rot, and the damn clamps are prone to rust with ebay kits, but hey, you get whatyou pay for. Do a search on the forums, there are much better things to do to gain rwhp than an CAI.

remove the silencer and put in a K&N filter.  50 bucks, and you get the same performance, without the flashyness.  I don't really give a damn about what my engine bay looks like.  Its not a show car, and I'd rather spend that 150 bucks on an UD pulley and belt, and then you've got a pseudo CAI and an UD pulley.

of course, I think the 99+ are more expensive for the UDP, not sure how much though.

you all do know that hp is not a real measurement hp is just a mathimatical eqation and nothing else if you can rev high  you have more hp thats all the higher you can rev the more hp you get

for instance the old muscle cars where rated HP at 4500 rpm but truthfully they redlined at 55-6000 which sugnifically raised the true hp they did this for insurance purpases

power(tq) x time(rpm) / 5252 = HP

if you realy want to compare cars and mods compare tq you tq is what makes up your hp

+1 excatally what i have done and i think its nice to have the more stock look but thats IMO
on the ohter hand ud pully's are like 200 or so if im not mistaken the difference being we have the harmonic ballencer
and no you deff pay to play the M112 kits run 1700 minus the new hood cuz it wont fit under a sixer hood i think for the completes and they have been making about 15HP on average per lb of boost but hot dang at say 7lbs boost to run on a stock bottom end thats what 105HP gain give or take? plus a really cool sound and a friggin sc to brag about
