Hey everyone,

Just joined the forum today.
I was recently handed over a '66 from my mom. It was her first car and she could never let it go 1) because I wouldn't let her and 2) she just didn't want to. I worked on it a lot for her before and never really got too much into it because I had some other projects. Now that I have it I am going full force on it from the ground up. The two major things I am going to do is to convert the suspension over to handle a 289/302 (not sure yet) and start rebuilding a 289/302 (amazing how hard they are to find). A lot of you guys inspire my project. Glad to be here and look forward to posting some pics of the project. I have worked on cars since I was around 14 and love every minute of it (yes, even the frustrating times) Anyway take it easy everyone.

-Freddie

Why do you say that? Keep it original? Thanks.

Cause I have a 6 and I think it is awesome.  Dropping in a 289/302 is overdone, and it's old IMHO.  Mine is not really original, but pretty close; I have modified my 6 quite a bit.

I see your pic and mine looks almost identical to that one. I thought about redoing the 6 till I was in the position to do the complete conversion. It might be awhile before that happens. I just love the sound of a well done V8, especially in a classic mustang.

hahaha

It's cool if you want to go with the 289, they do sound great and you can't beat the power.  There are just not too many of us 6 guys around, and I feel the need to be that guy lol.  Do you already have the block or are you still in the planning mode?

I haven't gotten the block yet, they are hard to find over here. I find them all the time in AZ but CA for what ever reason they are far and few between. I might have to get one from AZ and bring it over when I go out to visit family.

Hi
I was going for the V8 swap in my 67. I have gathered all the parts, almost. Winter is moving in and the project is on hold but I am rethinking the 6 cyl if gas hits $4.00 a gallon.

Yeah these prices are going to hurt everyone no matter what size engine you have. I hope to make it a good project going through this. Hopefully..... :)
