The 03 cobras are sick as hell and I was so content on getting one untill I drove the Saleen. For one the Saleen you dont see very often (may not be the case in Cali), but you have to think about which one will be worth more in the end. haha if Saleen doesnt stop making them, ours will go down farther and farther, but its all about how much power you want. Unless you plan on driving the cobra in a straight line all the time you will hate yourself for getting rid of the tuned suspension of the new saleens. Plus with yours being a daily driver, you are going to hate driving it because of the heavy heavy clutch. Hope it makes your mind a little easier. You could always spend about 8K and buy the cobra engine and put it in the saleen haha now theres an idea.
1. If you really want a cobra instead of a saleen, you're posting on a message board with an SVT section. You could ask for a trade with someone!
2. It will definitely be more expensive to get to 600rwhp with a saleen than a terminator. If power is all you're looking for...then trade it. Those cobras are ridiculous. You won't turn as many heads driving a cobra, though. Your car has the attention factor.
3. I don't care what you put on your car, but if you have 600 rwhp, it's going to be hard to put that to the ground on street tires no matter which one you choose. I just got back from a cruise with a lot of 500-700rwhp cobras and when they take off they all spin a lot. It's hard to connect that much power to the ground. A1Saleen is right.
4. The point that thcarpen made about handling is a good one. Cobras are wicked in a straight line, but not as nice as the saleen when it comes to cornering. The other point he made about the heavy clutch is also a good one. VERY HEAVY CLUTCH. If it's a daily driver, expect your left leg to fall off in traffic.
5. Insurance. The saleen mustang comes up as a GT in the insurance department. The SVT comes up as a cobra. As a young single male under 20, you're going to pay dearly. Meanwhile, you can supercharge your current car until your heart's content and pay the same insurance.
6. Resale. If you ever get bored with it...the saleen will hold up a lot better.

You're paying 25-30k for an older body style but nicer engine. Yes, the nicer engine is a plus, but the only plus. That's like having a hot 18 year old girl friend but dumping her and dating a 40 year old because she has more experience
OUCH!!!!!
(actually not, clearly you've never had a gf with experience or you'd take that back)

GF and women references notwithstanding ..... Keep the SALEEN. I've owned 2 Terminators ... 1 prior to this one and I think after you get boosted, you'll be just as happy. Perhaps even happier, because you never have to think about what you 'used to' have.
Other than the clutch point, couldn't have said it better eviligloo.

Everything said here is on the spot, but none of it can make the decision for you. I look at it this way; you are young so do what you wish. You have many years to experience different cars. But I will tell you, you may never be satisfied with just one. In the last year, I've owned a 65 Shelby Cobra (Backdraft), a 2004 Dodge Viper SRT-10 and my 2007 Saleen. I've enjoyed the Saleen the most but still loved the experience of owning the rest. As for your Saleen, 600RWHP is dangerous in a non-forged motor. That's right from JDM when I inquired about upgrading my Saleen.
I am now selling my 07 Saleen for a 2003 Terminator w/ 8K on the ticker because the car is amazing and I just want the raw straight away power. As for the Cobra handling, pay a couple grand for a Racecraft suspension and you have Saleen quality handling, simple. I met a guy at a recent car show that put an 03 Cobra motor in his 04 Saleen S281SC Coupe, 555 RWHP and the install looked factory. That was the baddest combination I think I have ever seen and what I think made me want to Cobra. The terminator motor has an endless supply of power. Ford did it right with that motor.
So, you have to ask yourself, what do I really want? Here's a sample of your delima with a slight Saleen flavor. Enjoy!
"Horsepower will screw with your sense of reality and make a mess of your ability to differentiate right and wrong. You start thinking a new set of tires a week is an acceptable expense". Damn, I need another new set of tires. Honeyyyy!
I stated I was going to go forged internals
Sorry, I must have missed that. Good on you. If you go big, go it right.

Come on Micky, your starting to show your youth again Post after post about the various mods you plan to do, and now this I don't mean that in a bad way either. But just a few months ago the words "I will never get rid of my Saleen, I plan to keep it forever....." came out of your keyboard
You have to realize that no matter WHAT you own, you will always find something that might be just a bit cooler or something that you think you have to have. Just ask my wife about my guitar collection But at some point you have to stop looking at what else is out there (like the 1995 S-351 with only 188 miles on ebay right now that I would LOVE to have) and move forward with what you have. You have all these mod plans up your sleeve for the Saleen and now you are thinking of trading? I think you should slow up a bid, get through school, get into the real world and see where life takes you - all while enjoying the Saleen.
Remember, you are one of the lucky few (yes, Power In The Hands of a Few) to own such a prestigeous car while still in college
Just my two cents....and your slap in the head

I personally think that the Saleen is a rare piece. I would take 1 over a Terminator anyday. Whether it makes the power or not, the Saleen is still a collectors IMO.

Dont go Cobra, if anything wait for the new BOSS to come out, i hear its got the 5.0 DOHC, 400hp motor alone. Slap on a S/C or TTurbo...you can say bye bye to that 600hp mark

Good deal Mickey - I know where you are coming from. Just a month ago I had to do some serious soul searching with some friends help (and of course a reality check on my d/e ratio )...I had my 85 sold to a buddy in order to try to finance one of the '93 Calypso's that were for sale. But I had to take a step back and realize it would not have been a smart move....not mater what I sell/buy, something will always come up to make you want more

cobra are way over rated... you can get alot more out of modding, youve got a better chasis... the price of cobras is also retarded... but so is a 05 saleen or roush for what you get... i say stick with what you got - youll lose money buy trading down, just get a forged motor and some FI
