i uploaded the diablo tune and changed around a couple things but nothing major. just shift pressure and raised the RPM's when im in drive...

You're supposed to run 93 octane with the Diablotune. that noise you are hearing is detonation from your timing being advanced.

pinging will only occur during wot. so if its anything besides wot its not pinging. it will kind of sound like its coming from the dash. you will know hwen you hear it.

At least run midgrade gas.... not that 87 ****. I'd still run premium in your 6 banger if i were you.

umm. i am guessing you have a GT (since you asked it in the 4.6L section) and from the body style a 99-04. with or without the diablo tuner you should have been running 93

this isnt a GM we are talking about here. you dont have to run premium on a car that hasnt had its timing modified. they are designed to run off 87 octane.

WRONG. The best way to tell if your car is pinging is to go up a hill with steady pressure on the gas, but make sure it doesn't down shift. This will put load on the engine and create any possibility of a ping. This will allow you to actually hear the ping vs. struggling to hear it over WOT exhast and engine scream. Any load on the engine will cause a ping if it is in fact pinging. I like the hill test. My truck does it all the time with 87 octane up a hill. Pinging sounds like poprocks candy  in your engine (lol) or like erratic valve noise.

Pinging sounds like a couple BB's shaking in a Coffee Can.
Check for exhaust leaks. I thought I was pinging, but it turned out to be some rusted welds in the x-pipe. sounded exactly the same as pinging too!
Oh yeah, dont put 87octane in a GT.

Why waste money on premium if ford set the car up to run on 87? If you haven't advanced timing or done extensive mods to a gt 93 is not needed. Machs and cobras recommend premium but they are not gts.

+1 on the 87, the timing curve is wide enough to run on 87

with gas prices as high as they are up here in CT, im totally fine with 87...$4.04 a gallon for 93 is rediculous
