im also looking into that. im not sure how i want to mount my subs. Probably just make 2 boxes for my 2 10" subs. I see wally mart sells 12" sub boxes, lol Not to sure if theres really one better than the other or not.

Yeah theres a difference not only in quality but in the way the enclosure sounds as well, you want something that was built solid with the right thickness MDF, and you're better off with mounting holes that are precision cut with a router instead of a jigsaw, that way no air leaks. Also you want it to be the right airspace. If you have one custom built, you can get one the perfect size for where you want to put it, a generic box goes where it fits, you know? Tweeter charges around $250 (from my recollection, not sure), and I am pretty pricey if I don't say so myself, but if I was to build a couple at once, I could probably do it cheaper.

if your getting two subs get a bandpass box, they sound much better because of their seal, and they angle the subs semi-toward each other for less resonance and stronger bass. I have a bandpass box that fits 10" subs.... not in the car and has no speakers. It sits on my floor. But it sounded great in my old car.

You will probably have to get one custom built. i was looking at two 12s at best buy but the guy said the only way to get them to fit with the generic boxes would be to get rid of the spare. So i ended up with two 10 inch rockford fosgates and a 1000 watt amp, and even that is a pretty tight squeeze.

You can fit 2 12's in your trunk very easly, and with out removing your spare, first of all you can go to almost any audio store and find a box that will fit in you trunk, or build you one that matches the specifications of your sub, you will more than likely have to build a sealed box though, being most decent 12's need a good bit of room for a vented box.

I guess the guy at best buy was just a dumbass, I thought 12s would fit too.

yea i was starting to think about just making a custom one out of some regular plywood but never thought of how the air and all that stuff made a difference. maybe ill just only use the one 12 and just get a small box. damn trunk!! lol

have a custon box built....better quality and they will build it to what your subs requires for air space...if you want to get real picky about it you can have your box built for a certain TUNE which if your looking for SPL then something you want to look into....the prefab boxes like best buy sells are really only good if you want to put any 2 12's for a little bass and those are usually about 1 1/2 foot of air space and are made of 1/2 inch wood...Depending on what subs you have and what you have for power 2 12's would sound good....if your looking for SPL then When i go to db drags you will want to fold down your rear seat for better pressure...there are lots of people around here pushing 147-150 with 2 12's....what it all comes down to is air space and power....i have 2 12 inch jl audio w7's and a jl audio 1000/1 in my caddy with my seat down and it pressures about 148...with my factory alternator....sorry for the long post but when it comes to the audio part of a car .......LOL

148dB? Off of TWO 12" W7s? Dude, who installed that? Just a single 1000/1?

Not only is plywood less rigid, but it flakes over time and just doesn't make a decent box. Put some faith in your sub's owners' manual specs suggestions, the mfr. knows what's best. I just had a custom sub box built by a local carpenter/friend for my single 10" sub to factory specs: 3/4" MDF, 13 x 13 x 8" inside dimensions, all of $20 (but I'm sure he did me a favor!). The more power you put to the sub, the shallower the box. I had my box built assuming about 150 watts, but will end up likely doubling that, so it may end up too "boomy."
