Default 3.8l or 3.9l

when i got my 2004 v6 mustang from the dealership it was sold to me as a 3.8l.. so i wehn a good year now hinking thats what it was .. but recentley when i took it into mako for an estimate on an exhaust fix.. the guy argued with me that it was a 3.9L so i was woundering if anyone knew where in the vin number it point me to figureng out what my car really is.. was looking at autozones site other day and i noticed where it said that only 20% of my year mustangs were 3.8l and 80% were 3.9L im thinking thats somewhere aloung the lines of why that guy was so prescent that my car is a 3.9

well about midway into production in 2004 they increased the displacement to 3.9. nothing to jump for joy about, but yes there are ones out there that are 3.9's, its actually more common than you would think.

i would imagine there is something in the VIN that is changed for the 3.9's, but dont quote me on it.

Why dont you just look at the big white sticker under the hood. Or type the code in on carfax to see what model it is.

If you have a 04 its 90% a 3.9l All the parts except tuners will work on your car regardless of what they say.

I not 100% on this but I think the 3.9 was only in the 40th Anniversary, which started mid 2004, since the first mustang wasn't a 1964 it was a 1964.5, which equates to 2004.5 models being the 40th Anniversary.

If the 8th character is a '6' it's a 3.9L a '4' means it's a 3.8L
