She is rusty but I can't see through his frame rails or his aprons either, what are we starting a "Title war"?  well...

Mine does not have more than 4" of frame rail front or back right or left that isn't see through the floors are bad, the toebaords are bad, Tunnel is bad inner rockers are bad, outter rockers are shot, the doors had been reskined twice and bondoed after that, the quarters are 60% plastic and old window screen and the wheel houses are Hole filled as well as the taillight panel, the hood is rusted through on the bottom side and the panel behind the conv. well in front of the trunk is shot underneath. the firewall will need to be reconstructed the lower cowl portions on either side are bad. The only thing that isn't shot is the upper portion of the cowl (Though it does show spots of rust) and the VIN#.

But hey I only claim to "All but own the name Rustang" not to have any exclusive rights to it, Kenny_Z was using the title for his car before I came to the forum I just didn't know it 'till after I posted this thread, so no title war here guys, Momma taught me to share.

Show us your pics BOSS_DUDE_429  It's always nice to share, misery loves company! .  Share and share alike?

"RUSTANGS" FOREVER!

Dan

That's nothing a little POR-15 and some Bondo won't fix up in a jiffy.

POR-15 FTW!!!!!!

Than you just weld in street signs where there are actual holes and you are good to go!

As far as rust in the owner, Been there, done that! I got rust in my eyes trying to remove the shifter linkage from under the car. Fortunately, the car still has more rust than the owner! LOL!!

Comsidering what she's been thru, there's not much rust, but where there's rust, there's R-U-S-T!

Dan, you are a better man than most. Maybe that or just crazier than most. LOL!! I don't think many-a-man would take on that challange. My hat is off to you sir for purchasing this car and making it your goal to bring it back to life. I vote here and now, the from the moment you repair the rust damage, you have to change the name of your car to Frankenstein. There is no other name that can say how much had tobe done to that car to bring it back to life.

What your car needs is the human equivilant of a complete skeletal reconstruction with several skin grafts.

Good luck and God speed!!

   Clu7ch - "Than you just weld in street signs where there are actual holes and you are good to go!"

It's already been done, thats how they "Fixed" the floors. Oh, and they put them in with roofing nails (Must not have had a welder).

That is serious now, you see they put the metal in with the nails, then used roofing tar all over the floor, put roofing paper over that, then '70s green shag carpet peices over the paper on each side in front (padding/soundproofing?) then the carpet. They also slathered the bottom of the car with that silver colored aluminum style '70s mobile home roof sealer to keep down the new rust and cover the old.

The only type of crappy patch job this baby is missing is duct tape.

I've got a few extra rolls laying around here I'll ship out to you if you wanna finish the job they started.

WOW! Man. I thought my panel job was bad. The PO of my stang did a QRT skin replacement on the D/S rear. Horrible job. They used pop rivits and a layer of bondo about a inch thick. The job was done so poorly that the daily wear and tear flexed the body to the point that it stress fractured the bondo where the skin met the original body metal.

What - A - Mess!!!!

I'm probably gonna have to just sell it as a rolling chassis to someone who has the time and money to put into it and use my earnings to fund my A.A.S. degree

I found duct tape under the bondo in the left side trunk riser patch.  It was holding down the rivets

As long as we're telling rust horror stories...my car has no floor pans, not a one.  The PO riveted sheets of fiberglass in place and used seam sealer on the inside, bondo on the outside.  I'm pretty sure one bolt is holding the was 16, now 10, dented gastank on and the rest was bondo'ed on.  I can reach through my rear quarters on the underside to get things out of the trunk.  My front framerails aren't actually bad until you get toward what's left of the firewall on the driver side.  The last 8 inches on either rear frame rail must still be in the field they pulled the car out of.  Basically I bought a transtunnel, a vin, two doors, and a roof.  Even the rims are rusting away.

We should start a Rustang support group

Kenny_Z  --- "We should start a Rustang support group "

Good idea, Hows this sound:

...Hello, my name is Dan and I'm a "Rustang" addict. It has been nearly 3 years since I bought a "Rustang" but only 3 days since I visited it...

Thirteen step program for recovery...

1. Doors
2. Floors
3. Roof
4. Rails
5. Quarters
6. Rockers
7. Trunk
8. Toeboards
9. Tunnel
10. Firewall
11. Cowl
12. Fenders
13 Hood

...I don't know about you guys, but I think were gonna need more than 13 steps...

Uhoh... who's my support buddy? I think I'm slipping!....  I may have already found my next project, my Brother's '66 "Pasture Pony" it's only been sitting in the field with the drivers side window open for about 22 yrs. now...

Not enough rust!  But it makes up for it with that paint job

Edit - Oh yeah, we need specs on it.  Engine, rear, everything

Here are some preliminary shots of the exterior rust and one of the inside of the DS door. Note the crack in the bondo that goes all the way through the door skin (About center of the large hole to the upper right on the door). Her frame rails, inner & outter rockers, and floor pans are ugly also, I just don't have any pics right now. I do think that your car is worse Ken, Boss_Dude_429, and clu7ch may have this one beat as well but she's pretty bad. I'm getting my true "Rustang" fix from my '69 and as an admitted addict I need to resist my urges, so I think this "Rustang" may just have to do for now.

Spec.s:

6  = 1966 Model Year
R  = San Jose Plant
07 = 2 dr. Hardtop
C = 289 V8

65A = 2 dr. Hardtop, Standard Int.
R    = Ivy Green Ext.
D8  = Parchment Crinkle and Rosette Vinyl With Ivy Gold Standard Int.
15L = Nov. 15, 1965 Manufacture Date
6 = 2.80:1 Conv. Axle
1 = 3sp. Man. Trans.

Those are the original spec. The car now has a 4sp. Trans. with a hurst shifter, and of course those '70s vinyl stripes but then they were new and cool in '78.

Well.... "FILE TOO LARGE"  ... I'll try to post them in a little while after screwing with the image editor

I don't claim to have the only "Rustang" but I do have one none the less. My car has had everything from the firewall forward replaced. New floors, quarters, trunk, rear frame rails, etc.
My front frame rails looked like the Titanic on the bottom of the ocean!
I like the idea of a Rustang support group!!!

Well.. Finaly!

Of course the real rust in this baby is under the hood and in the trunk.  The 289 that my Brother started to take down 22 years ago, then stopped and left it all sit.  The heads, manifolds, and intake are in the trunk, the rest of the engine block is under the hood and both places with no real protection from the elements.

Can I join also?  Started on the front and worked my way back (avatar pic).  Got to this point before a body man took over (I was starting to get impatient, took me 3 years to get this far, lol).  Bright side is it's getting painted soon.

I suggest three requirements for "Rustang" membership:

1. Love of the classic Mustangs
2. Patientce to do the work and/or wait for the $$$ required to finish the job.
3. A car that when finished has greater than 50% of body and frame replaced due to rust.

Whaddya think guys?

iamdiffrnt - That would probably include your car from the looks of the avatar

Only 50%?  Yay, I'm in! lol.  In the Avatar I just got the new trunk floor installed, but didn't replace the package tray yet.  Yes, my package tray rusted out, lol.  I could probably list what was replaced, but I really don't want to think about it.

Edit:  In case anyone was wondering 65-66 Coupe package trays will also work in 67-68 Coupes.

Burrrr.... 57 degrees here yesterday, 31 today (With 25-30 mph winds).!

Had hpoes of getting the Cougar in the shop and removing the front end, pulling the engine and trans. to do some measuring and post a few pics before heading out on vac. - Not to be I guess.

It's now time for my other hobby - SCUBA. We are headed for the Cayman Islands Fri. morning early.

Will post pics of the work on the car when I get back.
