i havent come up with a name for him/her yet,...sorry i dont know if that is like bad luck, like not having a name for your boat accourding to forest gump...
but for those that dont know the story, here is how it starts and where its at now...
i am getting way to many things started at once, but yet again i can not pass up this deal...
my mom was in chicago visiting my uncle and aunt, and i was talking to them the other day and jokingly said "if you ever want to sell that mustang let me know..he responds...
"if you come and get the Fing thing out of my garage, its yours..." "i do not want it anymore and have no need for it, it has been sitting for 18 years...so its yours as of today"
i have called a transportation company and currently trying to set up a date to have the car delivered to my house...it is going to cost me 790$ and it will be here in two days of selected pick up date...
the car has 42k ORIGINAL miles on it
update:
just got back from spending weekend in chicago got a chance to check out the car and take some pics...
well, i am very happy with the car, it NEEDS A TON or work, but as soon as i walked into a garage that had no been opened in 18 years, something inside of me fell in love with this thing...the smell of this garage was something that can not be described, the door had not been opened since the car was parked 18 years ago...and there was this car just sitting there, its hard to explain, like it was just parked one day and that was it...this project is going to take a lot of time and money, but these are things i am willing to put into something like this...my dad thinks i am nuts, but once again, something inside me just fell for this car on first site...
almost like a piece of history was just left sitting, forgot about, and now its time to bring it back...
i talked to some mustang GURUs and they say the v8 convertable has become a super rare car and there are no many left and go for BIG $$$$
needs new:
fender
door
quater panels
drivers side floor
entire new brake system
good:
car is 100% there not missing a single piece
original tires (haha) absoltly no thread left (so i am assuiming they were light up one to many times haha
engine still had oil in it and coolant
he had disk brakes installed up front and power steering
hooked up battery and top and windows went right up, lights went on and windeshield wipers
no rust in engine bay or trunk

we dropped the car at the hot rod shop and it is in the process of getting a ENTIRE new floor, it cost alot of money, but im sure it will be 199% worth it...
here is the first shipment of parts we got, this is every single part, nut, and bolt of the interior of the car...

jamieNerikas66stang 10-30-2007, 07:33 PM sorry for the confusion, we didnt keep the fronts, cause we wanted new front seats, we kept the rear seat frames and i am in the process of recovering them with black pony upholstery,...
jamieNerikas66stang 10-30-2007, 07:38 PM this is my second resto, but my first american car, i have never had my hands on something this old and this american, everything seems to be so simple,..so far,...but here are the other two cars i have built...

this is my 1973 porsche 914 that i have restored to a somewhat original condition,...still on original motor with 72k, my father was the original owner, and the car sat in my garage under a cover for 28 years, about a year ago, i got up some go nads, took the cover off, and about 1 year later this is what you see....
blane17 10-30-2007, 07:42 PM by no means am i anti-restomod, but if the car is so original and rare, why restomod it?
jamieNerikas66stang 10-30-2007, 07:46 PM not to sound like a dick, and please dont take this the wrong way, i know im the new guy here, but..
#1. its my car to do what i please
#2. i am not a pure-ist, if thats the right word?
#3. i want a safer car (4 link rear, coilovers, disk brakes all around, etc...)
#4. this is a car i have wanted since i was 16, and now that i own one, i will spare no expense in making it into my "dream car"
#5. it will stay somewhat original...but i would rather have a well built weekend cruiser/warrior, then a stock original 66
blane17 10-30-2007, 07:53 PM right, but also not to sound like a dick, then why point out the rareness of a car and how much it could be worth if u kept it original if ur gonna make it very unoriginal?
restomodding a car, in most cases, does not help the value of the car, whereas maintaining and restoring a rare car does.
jamieNerikas66stang 10-30-2007, 08:02 PM i was pointing out the rarness of the car/and the find,...but to me, a resto 66 vert is worth more then a original, its just me and its just personal preference...i do not plan to sell the car and plan to pass it on one day to my kids...i stated my goals, and i think it will turn out great...i do plan to keep the engine bay stock, i am goin to run the motor in there now for a while then plan on pulling it for a FUll rebuild...so motor and drivetrain will stay original, but brakes and suspension are OUT!
i also plan to install a shelby hood along with shelby front valance that accepts front bumeper
blane17 10-30-2007, 08:20 PM cool.
ozarks06 10-30-2007, 09:56 PM Did you check the VIN? I assume you did, but if it happens to be a 'K' code car (if it's a GT it is at least an 'A' code car), you will have restomodded a car that is very valuable (in $$$) in original condition. I'm not against restomodding (I'm doing one myself - mod motor, 4-wheel discs, etc.) and don't want to dissuade you, but it wouldbe a shame to do things that are not reversible if it really is a rare car like a K code vert. I saw a very nice restomod 65 fastback at the street machine nationals a while back. When I looked at the VIN it was a K code, 4 speed car. I assume the original motor was long since destroyed by some kid hotrodding it, but it made me a little sick to think that a car that could be worth maybe $50-75K in original conditionhad been restomodded (given that there are a lot of C and A code cars around that would have been just as good to start with) and made to be worth half that.
Who cares how rare a car is unless you own it?
Even a "rare" Mustang will benefit from performance and safety upgrades.....
If I were fortunate enough to own a rare Mustang I think I would be sure
to start mods right away, just so I would get over my fear of driving a car
too valuable to drive.......
"Cutting up" a rare Mustang might be kind of scary,,, but IMO turning a
Classic Mustang into a trailer/garage queen is much more frightful.....

Trailer queens are abominations of cars, the car was built to be driven. People are driving and modifying their new GT500's, I'm pretty sure there is someone on here who drives their Boss 429 on road courses. And the idea behind the mustang was to build an affordable car that people could buy and customize it how they please. We have the biggest aftermarket of any vehicle ever made available to us, I think that speaks enough for modifying.
mat11089 10-31-2007, 12:59 AM blane had a very good point as to why point out the rareness like bragging "hey i have a rare car that most of you would love to have but i dont care haha im cutting it up" yes it is your car but blane had a very very good point of y pointing it out.At any rate sounds and looks like youre on an awesome path.Cant wait for the pics along the way.I wish i had your budget.
andrewmp6 10-31-2007, 01:15 AM Dont look bad ignore them its your car do anything that makes you happy.I wouldnt do a 4 link unless your going drag racing only have you thought about a 3 link with a watts link it will out handle a 4 link.To me its a mass production car notthing rare there at all.
mat11089 10-31-2007, 01:21 AM I totally agree.Just acknowledgin blane's very viable point..But definitely firs and foremost have fun and do what you want.I agree with maybe not 4 link tho.
6marc5 10-31-2007, 08:08 AM That's an awesome find and the price was definately right! Have fun with it and take lots of pics,I have a '65 vert as well.
67 evil eleanor 10-31-2007, 10:10 AM Nice find, and a rare car with the options. It would make a nice Concours original. Its just my 2 cents, but I would keep all the upgrades to the point of where they can be easily changed back. I have both restomods and original cars, but it would be hard for me to alter one this good and rare beyond the point no return. Like you said.......
"almost like a piece of history was just left sitting, forgot about, and now its time to bring it back... "
but its your car. As far as value, its only worth what someone is willing to pay. I have seen Concours originals often bring less than a well done resto. This will change in time I think, as a car can only be original once. Either way, have fun.
jamieNerikas66stang 10-31-2007, 11:30 PM had some time today to start recovering the rear seats today, wow this is the first time i have ever reupholstered and will be the last, it was a pain in the ass and my hands are killing me, i need to let it sit over night, hit it with the steamer tomorrow and re tighten some things, but overall its not bad

hmmmm...did you get the TMI stuff???Â* when i did my rear seats i found it real simple...much easier than the fronts.Â* what made it so difficult?
yea it was from TMI, and it was so difficult cause i have absolutly no idea what i was doing, it took me about 10 minutes of looking at it to figure out to start in the middle, haha, sorry but never recovered stuff before,...
connor90 10-31-2007, 11:57 PM haha...you are supposed to start in the middle??? oops...i was so excited when i got my upholstry i just went at it. turned out pretty nice, its definately rough on the fingers though. had to stop and take a break half way through but it was one of the most rewarding things ive done to my car since i get to look at it every day. but anyways they look great and i cant wait to see your car finished!
4reboy 11-01-2007, 12:42 AM Haha i'm still working on my first bucket seats, the high top mach-1 seats are a pain in the a$$! However the rear seat looks like a peice of cake to me, after my strungles on the first seat that is.
Oh and it took me like 2 hours of messing with my seat and trial and error to figure out how to even do it.
connor90 11-01-2007, 12:53 AM yeah, the buckets are a real PITA thats for sure. took me 2 days to to my front 2 seats and only about an hour to do the back seat. have fun with that haha[8D].
4reboy 11-01-2007, 01:10 AM haha it took me like 5 hours just tod do the bottom portion of the seat. Still working on the back peice, it almost seams the new foam and the vinyl are incompatible which is making it reallllly hard. The problem with the 69 seats is you have the head rest portion that has to be slid ontop first and aligned and blah blah perfectly. I did that but everything else is still too short!! ugh so frustrating I just gave up for now will attempt again this weekend :D
connor90 11-01-2007, 01:18 AM haha man that sucks. i got a headrest kit for mine and it didnt seem that hard but yours is probably much different. i go so frustrated when i tried to do mine and actually almost gave up but i couldnt afford to have a pro do it so i made it work. took a while to figure it out but the second seat went much smoother than the first one.
jamieNerikas66stang 11-01-2007, 06:45 PM yea i was in the same boat, i didnt want to pay someone to do something that seemed so minor and deff a diy, but trust me, if i knew my hands and finger tips were going to hurt this bad, i woulda payed for it, haha, but it did come out really well and looks alot better now that it sat over night and i hit it with the steamer...quater panels are next,....

the seat platform and outer and inner rockers were solid as **** man, didnt want to mess with them if i didnt have to, you start getting into structural stuff there,...the floors were actually not that bad, there was alot of good metal under all that mess,..but didnt want to take any chances and have to do it again in 5 years,...so these should be good to go,...

Scott H. 12-12-2007, 08:11 PM Great progress!
As a fellow '66 convertible owner, I'm enjoying your thread.
Keep up the excellent work.
what did you use to strip the paint?
03Maverik 12-12-2007, 08:34 PM Yes...this is an amazing thread!!! Again, NICE WORK!!! What did you use to strip the paint?. You make everything look so easy. I have my motor and tranny out. I think tomorrow after work, I am gonna strip the interior. It oughta be eventful. If I can get out of lazy mode, I will post pics too. Keep up the work, and keep us posted. This thread is more exciting than Prison Break!!!
restomod@16 12-12-2007, 10:52 PM Where do you get the time to do all of this!?!? :D:D:D Its awesome keep it up. Have you considered making a website for others to follow in the future??
66ckurt 12-13-2007, 12:23 AM might i suggest if you keep anything at all KEEP THE CROWN STICKER ON THE AIRFILTER. it kicks solid ass. Also i not sure what you got planned for your coils but http://www.rrs-online.com/is what ive been eyeing up for some time now good 8k will put you with coils front (3link rear) and rack and pinion.

hahaha, i work on it after work and on the weekends, i dont have that much free time, but whatever time i have is spent on this project,...it would be hard for me to make a website cause i have absolutly no idea what i am doing myself,..haha, this is the first car i have restored so this is a learning experience for me also...
I can help you construct a website if you'd like, most of the information you'd need to start is right here in this topic! :D
dr1965 12-13-2007, 04:55 PM love watching the progress on this, keep us in the loop!!!

jamieNerikas66stang 12-29-2007, 08:58 PM woops you can kind of see the negative wedge kit installed in that pic, (shelby drop), and 620 springs will be installed when the spring compressor gets here
noroof66 12-29-2007, 09:26 PM Looking good. At this pace you should be done by summer. Do you have a goal date? Did you try the spring w/out a compressor?
jamieNerikas66stang 12-30-2007, 08:32 AM my goal is to be able to drive the car most of the summer, get all the bugs worked out, mess around with it a bit over winter, and then have it painted the following summer,...i dont want to be leaning over a fresh paint job working on things,...it should be at paint this coming week to have the bay sprayed,...then i can get new engine in and trans,...
i tried the spring without a compressor and there is just no way,..
Scott H. 12-30-2007, 11:37 PM Someone makes shock tower support plates that go from the area of the frame rail that gets all the dirt built up to the shock tower just below the UCA mounting point. This does two things. It strengthens that area of the shock tower, and it deflects the dirt (due to the ~40* angle). Can't remember who makes them. We used to just make them ourselves, by cutting out a cardboard template, transfering to a piece of 1/8" plate and welding it up.
Great progress! All that shiny metal :)
jamieNerikas66stang 01-13-2008, 06:32 PM not much of a update, but been doing alot of busy work,..like going through the wiring harness and stuff like that, lights, etc..cleaning alot of old parts and geting things ready to send out for rebuilds,...but here are some pics,..
had to cut the old shifter setup out, it was so rusted, it kind of rusted itself together and the bolts are snapped as soon as i put on pressure on them,..so had to cut old one out, install new shifter, and new shifer bezel,..the can will eventually be converted to manual, but stays auto for now...
http://inlinethumb13.webshots.com/39884/2808798980102416475S600x600Q85.jpg
also decided to replace the entire radiator support and crossmember,...it didnt need to be replaced, but there where holes drilled in it, it was bent, and out of wack, and i knew if i sent it to paint like this, i would never be happy,..so out it came,...pretty cool to see the grease markings from the assembly line on the car and what it was going to be,...i will be saving this piece just for ****s and giggles
new rad support with crossmember already welded in,..wow this was a huge advantage and big time saver, well worth the extra money

03Maverik 01-29-2008, 07:18 PM It seems like you are having a MUSTANG CHRISTMAS everyday!!! Nice work...everything looks clean and well taken care of. Yeah I would be scared sh*tless to put a motor in that fresh bay.
jamieNerikas66stang 01-30-2008, 12:06 PM rest asure there will be blankets covering every inch of that bay besides the two holes for the motor mount bolts, haha, i got it home today and now time to start putting it back together

jamieNerikas66stang 01-30-2008, 04:23 PM hahaha, i wish, i started today with little ****,...hinges, wires, brake lines, etc...and i have never been so careful with anything in my life! hah,
gottamustang 01-30-2008, 08:57 PM Nice, very nice. Dude, there is NO way you can be married with children and spending that kind of money. You must be single with a nice paying job. I agree with everyone else, unless it's a K code, go for it. I have a 64.5 "D" code convertible, 289 factory 4V and 4 speed. Engineand trans long gone and not much sheet metal that won't have to be replaced. So after replacing 70% of the sheet metal how original is it? It's not, sooooo I'm gonna do whatever the heck I want to as well. At the car shows when I'mdoneand when your done, the guys with the 14" factory hubcaps and white wall tires will be jealous of my convertible (and yours) when we are getting all the looks. Don't get me wrong, that's not why I take myresto 65 coupeto the shows, but it gets old when the restorers want to beatcha down, after allwe (I) saved onefrom the crusher.
My two cents
jamieNerikas66stang 01-30-2008, 10:28 PM no kids, and no house payment as of yet, but coming soon,...i do have a well paying job and i work hard and party harder,...honestly i have not spent that much money between selling old parts and doing most of the work myself, it hasnt been bad,..i also have a 1973 porsche, and a 2004 wrx/sti, that are both worked beyond belief...

jamieNerikas66stang 01-31-2008, 10:40 AM haha, does anyone have a pic of the motor mounts installed, i want to make sure i have them right,...the bolts are in the holes so the mount is at a angle towards the outside of the car,...right?
03Maverik 01-31-2008, 12:47 PM Nice collection you got there!!! The WRX looks like it will get up and spank a lot. It might be easier if you took a pic of what you have and show us the angle of the mounts. Unless someone else can picture it in their head.

BAY68_347 03-18-2008, 12:24 PM Hey I just really enjoyed surfing through this thread... That is one incredible project and like someone else said, you make it look too easy!
Nice work, I will look forward to seeing the rest of your progress.
Good luck!
jamieNerikas66stang 03-18-2008, 03:34 PM i wish it was easy, this has been one of the hardest projects i worked on, its my first old car so i am learning as i go,...its weird cause everyone that sees the car and what i have done to my other cars tells me i have a serious talent and something special, BUT I do not know whats so special about it,...i wish i could get into the automotive industry, but everyone i have talked to about a job is not interested since i havent went to school for this,...its just a hobby that has become more then love, something i want to do for the rest of my life,...
i have been in the food industry and worked my way up and willing to give that all up to wake up every morning and go to work doing something i love,...not to many people can wake up every morning and love what they do and love going to work,...
i figure i spend all my free time in the garage anyway, why not get paid for it,...so ill keep trying to wiggle my way into the automotive business,...
but thank you for the inspiration,..i have a ton more pics to post up
zmetalmilitia 03-18-2008, 04:07 PM That is what blows me away about unique performance. They had it made, waking up everyday, going in, and building cars. jackasses. looking forward to the pics!

03Maverik 03-19-2008, 07:39 AM Ummmm....DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's all I can say really.
jamieNerikas66stang 03-19-2008, 11:06 AM i dont think i have skimmped on anything so far,..but please if you guys see something not up to par please let me know,...
and just incase anyone is interested,...i might be willing to sell or trade when its complete in hopes of owning a dream 66 fastback,..!
my77stang 03-19-2008, 11:19 AM oh come on, how could you sell after all the work you've done?

oh come on, how could you sell after all the work you've done?
i dont know man, its just something about the lines of the fastback that get the blood going,...trust me, i love this car to death and its not even done,..it means more to me then anything right now, its the first car i have built,..but if i happen to stumble upon a very very nice fastback,...i would love to do this work all over again,...dont we always say "if only i knew then what i know now", i would love to do a second car,..knowing the stuff i know now and learned doin this one,..i think i could make it 100 times better,..
jamieNerikas66stang 03-19-2008, 11:49 AM http://images.popularhotrodding.com/features/0712phr_08_z+1965_mustang_fastback+front_left_view .jpg
like WOW is all i have to say,..i look at the car and those lines in awwww,...to me the convertible is the cruiser,..and the fast back is the bada$$ mofo, and the coupe is just the coupe,...trust me i am trying to change the look of my convertible to a bada$$ mofo, but dont know how its goin to turn out,..i need a custom hard top,..maybe i can call foose and ask him how much!
racin66coupe 03-19-2008, 12:13 PM yeah, id choose a fastback over a convertible anyday! but i hate the wheels on that one you just posted. i do have one question. why so much edelbrock?
jamieNerikas66stang 03-19-2008, 12:16 PM i have no idea why so much edelbrock, hahah, thats the funny part,...i always hated muscle cars,..HATED!, thought they were stupid,...and every time i say muscle cars and tv edelbrock was always the name used,..so figured they were a good company to buy some stock in,...haha,..but i really dont have a honest answer to that,...just always thought edelbrock and muscle cars went hand in hand
and yes i do not like the wheels on that car,..but the car overall is sick looking,..i needs a set of custom hre's,mmmm color matched to the car with polished lip!,..then were talking
scuf23 03-19-2008, 03:04 PM If you want a FB - either you really have the big bucks to add to the sale of the convertible to get one like in the picture ... or you find a project car that you buid to your liking ... based on what you have done and the skills you displayed, I'd say option 2 ...
03Maverik 03-19-2008, 03:43 PM +++++1 You got skills man. No denying it!!! But I say you find a way to get the fastback without getting rid of the convertible. Keep the first car. I mean, it did pop your cherry!!!!
jamieNerikas66stang 03-19-2008, 03:44 PM the more and more i watch the sales of these cars, the convertibles are going for more then the fastbacks,...we just went to a classic car auction and the convertibles were priced WAY higher then the fastbacks....i could be wrong, but this is what i have seen,...
i would like a fastback in the 10k range,...solid body and nothing else,..i dont want to do floors and **** again,...thats a pain!, i dont mind everything else,...
but yes that one in the picture has been saved on my computer since the day i brought my baby home and has been my inspiration for this thing,...who knows,...i might get to attached to this thing and just buy a fast back and have two, haha

let me ask you a question and keep in mind this is coming from a 27 year old kid,..and be honest...by looking at these pics and my cars what shows you i have skills,...i dont think i am any different then any other garage monkey,...i look at some of the work dont on these forums and other forums and it puts me in awww at how these people have these skills and never worked on cars for a living,...i would love to have the know how and skills of half the people i talk to ,...maybe they have been doin it alot long? and i have some catching up to do,..but it just seems, i am no different then any other garage monkey i have met,...i think i just have the balls to tear into something unknown, take a mental picture, and be able to put it back together,...i mean i tore this whole car apart and only took about 2 pages of notes, and put the rest back together my memory,...there is still sooooo much i want to be able to do and learn, but dont know who to turn to and where to learn without schooling,...and its hard to give a job up in a industry that you have been in for 7+ years to start all over,...who knows,..
nassaubayman 03-19-2008, 04:12 PM Not too many people have the guts to tear into a car as deep as you've gone.
Print your pictures and make a photo album. It will be a nice touch if you put it in a car show or want to sell it after you're finished.
jamieNerikas66stang 03-19-2008, 05:22 PM i wanted to dig a bit deeper, but funds, space, time, and other things played a big part of that, i just spent 3 full days under the car scraping it down the metal, sanding, and coating,...pain,..but thank you for the nice comments guys,..
and yes i have been taking alot of pics that i will put into a book when complete,...
i am also thinking of painting the car myself,...so well see...

You're 27. That means you've got about 40 years of work ahead of you. Skills can be learned but what you have going for you are aptitude and passion. Yeah, it's tough changing careers but people do it all the time. My cousin was at the top of the heap at Bell Labs in the computer industry and he chucked it to go to seminary and become a minister. He was in his 40s. He does not make as much money now but he is far happier. Do you have people depending on your paycheck? Wife, kids? Do you have a mortgage? If you have responsibilities then that's another matter. You have to take that into consideration. It doesn't mean you can't change your life but you do have to consider those things.
Your 7 years of experience in the food industry would not be wasted. You have learned things which can transfer to other jobs...things like dealing with people, purchasing, planning, etc. Give it some thought.
jamieNerikas66stang 03-19-2008, 05:47 PM o agreed 100%, just easier said then done i guess,...i love my job and the money is great, dont get me wrong, just not what i want to be doing,...
03Maverik 03-19-2008, 07:34 PM Here is my 2 copper coins...keep in mind I just turned 21. You have tore apart your car and have come close to building it in less than a year (im guessing from reading up on you) in your own garage. With know one telling you step by step what to do, or assisting you physically in any way. Every pic that you have show us, shows a clean process with an immaculate finish. Are you kidding me? How many other guys with that little experience would tackle this kind of project? Just like honeygoldcouple said, your passion is your drive. If you love to do this, go balls to the wall and do it. Maybe go to talk to a local shop and see if you can come in part time. Keep your regular job, but get your feet wet somewhere. I highly doubt that all of the big builders today have had schooling in this line of work. Practice, practice, practice seems to be the way to get things right and it appears that you have a good jump on it. I too would love to do something like this for a living, but I don't have nearly the skills that you do. But I have the vision, which is why I am a designer for a living. I just need the help of taking my design and creating a finished project. I got friends to help me. One thing that I have always wanted to say, is that I am doing something I love. I think we should all try and aim for that. Like I said, just my thoughts. Keep up the good work, I would love to see this car in person some day!!!
jamieNerikas66stang 03-21-2008, 12:26 PM thank you for the very kind words,...i think i am gona wait it out till the mustang is "finished" somewhat and use that as my resume,...and take it with me to local shops,...i have talked to alot of people and it always seems to come down to "did you go to school?", and i know the older guys that have been around for 20+ years didnt go to school and are probably 99 times better then most,...but that was a different time,..todays society wants school, in any line of work..not just cars or whatever,...i have a business degree from Monmouth University and have been working since graduation in the field...
03Maverik 03-21-2008, 12:40 PM Start up your own side business. Keep your job, and begin with small tasks. Then grow into the next Foose!!! I just signed the papers 2 days ago for starting a new business. I am keeping my full time job, but I am gonna have an employee working for my business. If I can grow big enough, then I will do that full time. But for the time being, I still have my main job to rely on. Just a suggestion for you.
jamieNerikas66stang 03-21-2008, 04:06 PM lame update, but this showed up today, little radiator porn,..all aluminum 4 row, it alsp doubles as a FMIC!, hahaha i wish

03Maverik 04-04-2008, 07:27 AM I swear, reading this thread is like watching your favorite tv show. You get excited for with each new event, and then have to wait another week. Ahh...the suspense is killing me!!! Nice work as always. I love the pride you take into this work. Guess I'll be tuning in for next weeks episode.
jamieNerikas66stang 04-04-2008, 11:08 AM thank you very much for the kind words,...i found myself running out of gas between work and car,..so took a couple days off and left for business,..it was nice to get away,..but now back to the grind and wanna get this puppy running,...

transmission went in last saturday, start to finish in about 40 minutes, the longest part was trying to figureout a way to jack the car high enough to clear the bellhousing,...haha, and i did it with someone who never worked on cars before,..its scary how fast it went in, i hope i didnt miss anything
,..so should be about another week:devil:
03Maverik 04-16-2008, 02:07 PM And you got a free hat...right on!!! So I guess I will be seeing abad ass vert coming down to North Carolina in a week or so.
fakesnake 04-16-2008, 02:59 PM I spent 14 years restomodding a fastback to be a shelby clone, and sold it when someone asked me if I would sell it and said no. He replied "everything is for sale" and offered a crazy price and I went down and bought a new 07 convertible. I did so many things to the car to improve handling ride safety stopping etc and it was a lot of fun. So screw the purists with their trailer queens that actually are dangerous to drive.
You have done a miraculous job and picked many of the same parts that i used. Some things I wish I had done.
1) Removed the shock towers with a Heidt or some other complete front IFS/Rack setup. I just had rack and pinion from total control.
2) Modern FI motor, either a 5.0 or without the towers a supercharged 4.6 or even a 5.4. I had a jasper 302, world heads, cobra intake worth 350hp.
3) Rear independent suspension, saw this in an article this month in mustang monthly, a must have magazine for this hobby.
4) World class 5 speed, i had a rebuilt toploader loved it but would have liked the od
5) Alternatively you can install a Gearvendors? overdrive to back up your auto.
6) Roll bar and real 5 point harness, cause if a new toyota hits you you will lose
7) Electric windows that use the original crank handles for a switch(the handle just goes up or down about 1/2 inch to move the windows)
8) I had torque thrust II wheels 18 inch and bf goodrich tires, they were the best
Good luck you are doing an AWESOME JOB!!!
scouttrooper 04-16-2008, 03:13 PM I've never really understood the romance that surrounds restoring a car originally. If you've seen one perfect "off the line" restoration, you never need to see another one. Yawn. With every improvement you make, you're increasing the enjoyment you'll get back from driving it. There are plenty of trailer-queens out there. Build that pony so you can flog it and not feel bad about it. It's looking like a ton of fun. Enjoy the heck out of it.
jamieNerikas66stang 04-16-2008, 07:19 PM guys thank you for the kind words,...ill be posting up more pics so i get the rear suspension done and brakes,...i am getting so ancy

headers and spark plugs in,...i must say,..the headers FIT PERFECT! so thanks to sacrament mustang,..i didnt even have to jack up the engine to install them, and i didnt struggle with a single bolt,...everything went is smooth as can be,..but their gaskets SUCK,..ended up using the edelbrock ones,...

jamieNerikas66stang 04-27-2008, 10:29 AM well today was the day i was dreeeeeedin, i have been told one of the easiest or one of the hardest things to do is remove the rear end assembly, due to rusted bolts and where they are located,...well 6 bolts releases the whole assembly,..great, not hard,..spray with PB wait for 10 minutes, and go to town,...
bolt 1 snapped, great! nice and easy
bolt 2 snapped, great easy!
bolt 3 came off no problem
bolt 4 came out no problem
bolt 5, haha, about 20 minutes and it came out,...not bad
****ING BOLT 6, front leaf bolt SIX HOURS LATER! and 4 blades and two busted saw's ,...grrrr, anyway its all out,..need to drop off the rear end to be rebuilt by the same people that did the tranny, and having 3.55 gears put in it,..

guybored 04-27-2008, 01:42 PM why is it that the last bolt is usually the hardest? the first bolts/nuts usaually aren't that hard and you think, I'm i going to get lucky! then the last one takes more time then all the other ones put together. I've always wounderd that. love the way your car is coming along.
jamieNerikas66stang 04-27-2008, 07:33 PM just want to make sure this is the correct part before i order them,...
set of 3.55 gears to take to the builder,...
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D740801&N=70 0+115&autoview=sku
this is a standard 8inch correct?,...what is a 8.8inch?
66JameStang 04-27-2008, 08:07 PM You are working away!! I remember the weeks when packages would arrive at the dorr daily it was so much fun...:D. I am starting to think I need a new project to get those boxes moving again... Everything is coming together you have to be excited!
jamieNerikas66stang 04-27-2008, 09:40 PM getting there getting there,...i am not used to this classic car **** or 9 steps forward and 10 back,...but its all good,..im sure it will be worth it
racin66coupe 04-27-2008, 09:48 PM jamie, those are the correct gears. the 8.8 has a rear diff cover that bolts on
jamieNerikas66stang 04-28-2008, 04:42 PM thanks man, ordered the gears, now i have to wait for them to get here and drop off the rear for rebuild,..and i think i am about rear brakes and wheels and tires away from atleast a moving car,...hahaha, not bad for under a year! and a one man wrecking crew with no resto experience!
RGMotorsports 04-28-2008, 04:51 PM man, edelbrock must love you. looks good though, and 8.8 is what is currently used in mustangs, the 8 inch is good for upwards of 400hp, many people have mildly built 8 inchers running upwards of that on 65-66's especially. It should be a good street cruiser with the new engine and some 3.55's.
03Maverik 04-28-2008, 10:53 PM More like a street bruiser!!! If you can get that rear looking as good as the front, slow ass racersaren't gonna cry so bad when you blow by them. They'll be like, "Dang did you see that rear," and then their girls are gonna think they're gay!!!

jamieNerikas66stang 04-29-2008, 12:25 PM guys if it wasnt you joking around and keeping the mood lite, it wouldnt be so much fun doing this,...i am so sick or struggling with rust and bolts,...i have always worked on new cars, so this was never a problem,..
AND YES, that rear will look as good as the front, i spent 4 hours scraping the inderside of the car,..rear seats back yesterday, i have to paint some spots then finish the undercoating,...i just had the driveshaft blasted and i painted it with por 15 it came out brand new looking,...this is also my plans with the rear,...
http://inlinethumb26.webshots.com/39641/2948838960102416475S600x600Q85.jpg
guys any guess on the power this thing will be putting out? 302 bored 30 over, edelbrock top end kit with thunder 650 carb dual feed fuel line?
i have a wrx-sti that puts 358 at the wheels,..and this thing moves,...will it be close? power wise,..i was hoping for atleast 300 at the rear wheels,..
i just got 3.55's to go in the rear,...
RGMotorsports 04-29-2008, 12:34 PM you might be looking at the same power level as a new GT so maybe 250 to the wheels 310 maybe at the crank. I dont know your cam specs though so its only a guess. by the way i noticed your running stock rockers, I have some brand new sbfcomp cams roller rockers id be willing to let go at a 1/3 of the price, bought them 1/2 off when a parts store went under but im currently not running any 302/351w motors.
03Maverik 04-29-2008, 01:23 PM How much weight is all the por-15 putting on? It makes it look good and serves its purpose, but it seems like that it would turn the car into a tank.
Oh...I gotta have fun and put up fun comments. This stuff can get stressful, it helps to relieve us every once in awhile.
RGMotorsports 04-29-2008, 02:34 PM You mean the fact that i just spent all day stripping a car which im pretty sure someone dida 5 coat spray can job on and no amount of sandpaper or stripper works real well is stressful.
But +2 on the por 15, I know the stuff is good and its easy to get addicted but why not just shoot some blue on the driveshaft and save a few bucks.
jamieNerikas66stang 04-29-2008, 05:31 PM i bought 6 little cans of por, a gallon of cleaner, and a gallon of metal prep, when i did my floors, i had 2 little cans left over,...so i am using it on stuff like this,...it is no heavier then regular paint,..its only one coat put on with a roller,..i dont think its adding much weight at all,...and i am making up for it by the 1234 pounds of undercoating i have scraped from the car and the dirt removed,..haha,...i love this stuff and have had GREAT results with it,..and i am not worried about weight with a 4000 pound car,..now if it was my sti, that would be a different story,...

you might be looking at the same power level as a new GT so maybe 250 to the wheels 310 maybe at the crank.

HAHA!!! Busted...nice recovery though. Just kidding with you guys. If I wouldn't have just started a business, I would be posting up progress pics. Fortunately and unfortunately, I am investing money into something that hopefully will pay me back. Then I will get to build my car.
tarafied1 04-29-2008, 08:42 PM no problem, I was just giving you a hard time. I would love to have a Fastback but this is the car I had so I made something out of it. You vert is gonna be sweet, I enjoy reading your posts.

Yes, My kit is the E kit for 67-68 Mustangs, the E2 kit is for the 1st generation Stangs. I have the Maier racing kit except for the trunk lid and tail light panel. I have the Shelby/California Special trunk lid and Shelby tail light panel. I filled in the notches in the upper and lower nose for the driving lights because I used a 67 Shelby grille.

Toddman0025 04-30-2008, 02:47 AM I love this thread thanks for keeping us updated on your progress!
I have a question for you regarding your application of POR15 (i'm getting ready to do the same thing):
I was under the impression that you just used phosphoric acid and then applied the POR15 directly over the painted areas - do you actually need to strip all the paint off before applying POR15?
jamieNerikas66stang 04-30-2008, 05:44 AM DO NOT PUT POR15 OVER PAINT, it will not stick and it will just peel off,...POR stands for paint over rust,...YOU MUST use their three step process,..
1. degreaser
2. metal prep
3. por 15
if using on bare metal, scuff it up a bit with some sand paper,...and then spray degreaser and let sit for about 10 minutes, wash clean with clean water, spray metal prep and let sit for about 15-20 minutes and wash clean again, dry, then you are ready for the po15,...if you dont do these steps, you will not have good results and it will begind to peel on you
jamieNerikas66stang 05-06-2008, 08:07 PM gears came yesterday and dropped the rear off for a complete rebuild,...MMMMMM

straw1628 05-10-2008, 05:01 PM Jamie, just curious. It looks like you have an air gap intake on the car. That is what I am using. Do you think you will have any hood clearance issues? Thanks.

jamieNerikas66stang 06-03-2008, 09:06 PM hunh?
racin66coupe 06-03-2008, 09:43 PM hes saying it looks like they just left the rust on it when they painted it. but its POR15 right? so it has the textured look..
jamieNerikas66stang 06-04-2008, 06:42 AM ooo, the rear was rusted bad,..so i did what i could to sand it down, clean it, and it is por15, so it likes a bit of rust, haha, but yes the finish is a bit rough, but looks 12234 times better then it did,...
drewsky 06-04-2008, 10:28 PM oh man, keep em coming... this is crazy motivation for me!
btw the horsepower questiones. sorry to say it wont be near as fast as ur sti. although it wont have any problems spinning mad tires! and pick up way more a$$. lol
richrom 06-05-2008, 01:11 AM Damn! All this makes me want to quit my job and dedicate all my time to my 67. New business prevents that. Gotta feed the family.
drewsky 06-05-2008, 08:25 PM one more question if u dont mind. what product did you use on the front fender wells. and what process. thx
jamieNerikas66stang 06-06-2008, 04:20 PM well just a update, shamus came over today and helped me drop the trans,...took maybe 30 minutes, just being extra careful not to mess up paint, until we spilled about 3 qts of fluid ALLLL over, anyway,..
removed flywheel and spacer plate, spun oil pump, and sure enough one of the gallery pulgs was GUSHING, it wasnt loose but it wasnt tight either,...
so replaced the plug with a new plug, teflon tape, and some rtv gasket, and hopeuflly it holds,...the threads looked to be a bit messed up and i am wondering if that is what caused it,...
at this point i am just praying to the car gods if there is any, cause i cant go through this again
and thanks to shamus once again for a awesome set of helpin hands
imnotmy77stang 06-06-2008, 07:32 PM thats great to hear it was something simple. sounds like the builder threw the plugs in and simply forgot to tighten em up. thats the kinda stuff that happens from time to time, its all part of the game[8D]
jamieNerikas66stang 06-11-2008, 12:20 PM thanks man, now i just gota get this starting issure figured out, i think the starter selenoid i just bought is bad,...or its the battery,...taking battery to get charged today,...even though its brand new, but it sat for 6 months,...

davesanborn 06-22-2008, 10:05 AM If you're going to replace the inner/outer wheelhouses and rear quarters, you'd be doing yourself a big favor by taking the rearend back out.
Dave
jamieNerikas66stang 06-22-2008, 08:09 PM why would the rear make a difference for wheel houses and quaters?
thanks for the comments guys, this thing is sucking the life out of me, ...but i am determined to get it on the road,...i am so close and can taste it!, the sound of that engine gave me another month of motivation, haha, guess ill have to start it again in a month,...
davesanborn 06-22-2008, 09:35 PM why would the rear make a difference for wheel houses and quaters?
You can leave it installed, but you'll be working around it with cutting tools, welding, seam sealing and eventually paint. Why take the chance of getting the rearend/new brakes/new shocks/freshly painted leaf springsall hosed up by leavingthem installed? Just unbolt it and lay it off to the side until you've got all the repairs done.
I know you'r thread is titled "backwards resto", but you don't have to stick to that just because the thread title says so.
:D

racin66coupe 06-22-2008, 09:41 PM anyone else think that this thread may possibly be the longest on here by the time hes done with it? not including the stickys. thad be awesome!
