I'm going to be installing my 1.7 rockers and was wondering what kind of performance increase I can expect.

not a lot of increase, just more able to take abuse

That can't be true, with the new rockers I should have the lift of a bigger cam. A bigger cam produces more hp.

stock heads for the moment...but that doesn't matter. the new rockers hold the valves open further and longer.

I noticed a pretty good difference in the car, not so much the car got faster (it did), but more like it revved smoother, and faster. Faster revving means it's getting up faster. A must over the stock stamped bullsh*t

this is all true, but with the after market performance heads is were you will find the hidden horsepower in them. but they are always a good thing to have regardless!!! good luck with all of that!

I tried 1.7 roller rockers on my stock headed 5.0 and had horrible performance. I didn't shim them so maybe that was the problem but after pulling the valve covers 5 times I'd had enough and sold them back to the guy I got them from. I would be really concerned with mileage on your stock springs before using them. The extra lift may net you lost horsepower if the springs aren't up to the task. Westech dyno reports showed them losing HP with 1.7's. I suggest waiting until you upgrade heads or springs before popping them on.

also, stock valve covers don't have the clearence for the 1.7's. you need to either shave off the corners with a dremmel tool, or get bigger covers. also they sell gasgets that provide more spce to prevent that sort of thing

I had no problems fitting my Crane 1.7's under my stock valve covers

i guess mine were smaller, cause i had to shave off some of the back corners to prevent rubbing

There is also size differences between the different brands as well as types. Ie. stamped 1.7 rockers might fit without shaving as well as rollers that are made from a stamped design. If I remember correctly, the cranes are a stamped design. Now my Harland Sharp 1.7 rollers have no chance in hell of fitting under a stock cover, even after using a dremel tool on the oil baffling. I had to go with a larger valve cover.
