Alright, so i  have a 1965 mustang coupe with a 289. Now don't get me wrong, the 289 is a solid engine and all (its only about a year old with about 5 k mileage). I was just wondering how i could get more performance out of the 289...or im thinking about swapping the engine out for a bigger one like a 302 or 351 w. Is it possible to put a 351 w to fit in a 65 cuz thats kinda wat i would like (hoping to get 350 hp or more out of it). And if anyone has sum suggestions on better perfromance out of the 65, it'd be much appreciated.

Both 351w and 351c fit youll need swap headers and i believe 66 motor mounts. You can stroke your 289 to a 302 its all up to you which way you go.Id put the 289 up and use a 351w but thats just me.

From what I've heard the 351 is a really tight squeeze into a 65/66, but it can be done. If it were mine, I would but a 302 roller block, and stroke it to 331, and keep the 289 around as a back up motor. If you had a 67 or later car, I would say to build a 351W as that is the route I took and I love it, but for maintinance purposes I would stay with the slightly small setup. Plus a 331 would provide more than enough power to destroy your stock drivetrain if you haven't beefed it up yet.

How much are you looking to spend? Some aluminum heads and a paxton S/C would sure wake it up.

I will be putting a 351W in mine starting next year.  I have asked all of the questions that you will soon be asking, and these guys here are amazing help, so ask.  From what I can tell, using a shock tower notch kit and special headers, the 351 will fit nicely.  I have put 2 different 289's in mine (stock heads do not help) and was not impressed, but with some work, you can make it run nicely.

I say either keep the 289 and open her up, or go straigth to the 351.  Dont settle in between.

There's no replacement for displacement!!!  Just look at superdavid.
