It happened again. I put in my new radiator and not even 24 hours after driving it, my fan hit it and shredded it up. What could cause this? Would a bad fan clutch, bent fan or possible bent water pump shaft aloow this to happen? I wanna know whats going on before I fix it again so the same thing won't happen. Also, has anyone had any luck with switching to an electric fan? Thanks.

Is your rad moving around, are the mounts secure and the rubber pads in good shape?

The fan clutch went out and the fan started wobbling and hit the fan. That was the problem.

I have put an electric fan on mine and its been working great! Never any overheating problems. Fan was from a crown vic or a bird, don't remember. Just fabricated some brackets for it from aluminum. Word of caution though.. Check the amp draw on the fan. Mine draws MASSIVE amounts of power and I had to get a custom alternator made to keep the headlights on. Big powerful alternators are availible everywhere now adays, but not 3 to 4 years ago when I did the swap. Just something to keep in mind... good luck.

Granted the 5 minute must be on an engine stand...but hey, the rest is true (we ran an alternator and starter from those folks on the Jeep. Worked amazingly well)
