Hey guys, I'm looking at an 85 SVO. It has 39,xxx miles on it, and it's in pretty good mechanical shape. Frame/underneath the car are in pretty good shape, not exceptionally clean but not much rust either. The body was repainted from the original grey to green. The new paintjob was probably awesome when it was new, but now it has some dings and scratches. Everything works, it has a leather interior, sunroof, power windows/locks. All stock, except for four Momo 17" wheels.
What do you guys think? He's asking $5,000 for it.
It kinda depends on where you are located, I just got my 84 with only 38,xxx original miles for 3000 and it included everything from a mint interior to the leather svo bra and all 84 mustang shop manuals. Also depends if it is an 85 or an 85.5

Flush lights and dual exhaust are the most obvious difference between 85's and 85.5's. 85.5's are also the rarest of all of the SVO's with 439 produced. Decent paint, not rusty, good running condition, and if all SVO specific pieces intact, it sounds like a nice car. I still think the price could come down a bit though.

PE computer? It's all original, and he still has the stock wheels. The paint is the only thing that isn't stock.
Edit: The dual exhaust is there, as are the flush headlights.

How much would you guys offer? Mechanically, it seems perfect, but cosmetically it needs work. The paint I mentioned, there's a few places where the weatherstripping is coming off or gone too. I do really want this car, but I don't want to lowball the guy, or pay too much.

Then that is the one to get I would say offer him 4 and see waht he says, Does the car have a radio, ac, power locks & windows? If not it is a comp prep 85.5 and is fairly rare even for an svo so I would see if that is the case.

I can understand not wanting to lowball him, makes you look like an ass. I would probably start at $4000 and see how that goes over. For as unique as these cars are, they don't really bring much money. They rarely go for more than $4000.
Also verify that it is indeed an 85.5. They didn't have a third brake light or any sort of badging on the fenders. Those are the obvious differences between them and 86's.

I didn't see any badging other than "Mustang SVO" on the hatch, left hand side. I'm going to go back and take some pics and then post them up here, you guys can get a better idea.
