Also, 07SCGT. In your case, you had every right to filp out. I am sure I would have done the same thing. Thurman

I can see both sides. I do work on some very nice modded cars and most of them I would rather not drive unless the customer is with me. Just to avoid these types of problems. Had a Ford GT that had a rattle noise and while driving with the customer was told that it mainly happens at 95mph. Now that gave me permission to go that fast but I chose not to. Just found another way to recreate the noise. Theres always those types of people too that want you to take them around the block in a nice car. Unless it's repair related I usually tell them to pound sand. My sister-in-laws Tiburon was brought in to the dealer for an airbag recall. Me and my brother grabbed some food and come back only to have her car go flying by us. So we followed them around the block. Got next to them only to have them start revving the car bouncint it off the rev limiter and making the supercharger whine. It was pretty funny when my brother asked them if they were having fun racing his car around. We got back to the dealer before them and my brother let the Service director have it. They come pulling in with the car hotter then hell and were stopped on the drive. The manager walked up and fired them on the spot. Then offered some free oil changes but my brother refused and said he will never bring his car back to that dealer. Now for my GT500 story as requested in the original post. I did some work on GT500OC car a while back. And although I didn't get on it when I took it on my road test I wanted to see how his bad ass suspension felt. That car feels better then on rails. I'm sure with as modded as his car is it pulls hard also but just the handling alone was amazing. And since there are people that will like to go joy riding, I left the car blocked in my stall with both keys locked in my box. We had 2 previous employees that wanted to take a brand new Mach 1 when they first came out for a spin. They lost control and slammed into a light pole. They both were fired and the guy was given a new car a liftime oil changes. It all depends on the people that work on your car.

I usually have my tuner under my drivers seat and pluging it in under my dash usually only takes 1 minutes to download the Valet mode tune. I usually have it installed in less time than it takes the service advisor to write down my info and a call back number. I can email it to you if you like or you can just ask your tuner to put the limits on it like I have. It's piece of mind believe me, I have too much invested in this car to see someone wrap her around a tree or something.

hmmmmmm.....I can apprecate the need to "test" drive the car.... but I am skeptical that the owner "consented" to what you explain doing...... guess I'm glad I live on the south shore!

Not everyone slaps down $25k-$30k and in some cases $50k+ for the gt500's to ride their car hard, especially by someone who isn't the owner. If that was my car i would be furious that the tires were burned just to see if wheel hop was gone. But i would have made sure that after the install was done i was the only person to drive it. Then again i'm glad i do all my own work on my mustang so no one can abuse it like this.

I can see both sides to the arguement, but in this day and age, I would recommend you let the customer drive the car illegally. I assume you did the burnout on a public road and not a race track. If anything had happened it would mean your job. Had you spun out and hit another car a good attorney could have sued you and your dealership, even if he'd given written permission for you to do a burnout. You can't give someone permission to do something illegal. Even if you had a contract, it would probably be void. On the other hand I would hope the dealer has enough sense to keep the customer happy and let you ride along with him while he checked for wheel hop. I had a Mazda that had a whistling noise at about 80 mph and they didn't even offer to ride along with me to replicate the noise. They lost a bunch of money because I was willing to pay to have it fixed!

At my dealership, the customer is the one to show whats going on. There is no way my boss is going to let me go do some burnouts to duplicate the concern. Especially since this is a know problem with our cars. Thats what would have been explained to the customer at the front service drive and options givin. Then he would have been told that if he wanted these aftermarket control arms installed, we would not do it because there would be no warranty. We are not allowed to install any part that is not a part of the product line for warranty and liability issues. To many sue happy people in california.

Whenever anything is being done to my car I stand there and watch it. In any previous cars, when there has been a mechanical issue, the tech always goes out in the passenger seat with me and witnesses me duplicating the problem. If I ever saw someone beating on my car like that I'd lose my mind. I've never even lit them up myself, so if I saw someone else doing it in my car my blood pressure would probably instantly go through the roof and blood would start coming out of my ears. And if they said that signing a release gave them permission to do it... ugh, I don't even want to think about it.

Wooowww. +1 on him thinking this thread would make him look cool. NyFordTech; I doubt the owner of a GT500 would consent to you and another tech burning his $200/each tires up. The fact that you said you “grabbed another tech to come out with me (shaparone jus in case a got a lil to crazy)” speaks volumes to me. You didn’t care about his property; you just wanted to have fun with someone else’s car and took a buddy along for the rag fest. If you are test driving the work that was done, why did the other guy need to drive it also? We already know the answer; just so he could have fun ragging the car as well. I think this thread should be forwarded to the dealership he works for. Please do us all a favor and write with some grammar structure; it hurts my brain to try and decipher your craziness.

ORIGINAL: ohsixgt1217 The GT500 is an insane car. 420 rwhp stock. The throttle response is the same as your car was before you had the tune. Tell that guy to spend $800. Get a 10 lb pulley and a tune it will put down easy 475 rwhp. LOL... It will put well over 475rwhp with just a tune. From personal experience I have seen 489rwhp with just a dyno tune. -Jeff

It would have been better to say "Show me what you mean by wheel hop.." and have the owner drive the car the way he wants with you in the pass. seat. Then after the work was done, say, "Let's go see if this fixed the problem.", and have him drive again. Then there's no issue, and if he offered to let you drive with HIM in the pass seat, you can still brag about how great your job is.

LOL thats funny. my dad works in a dealership and before i bougth my car i took one out for a test drive but, i mean we just took the car nobody even knew. long story short the car had 2 miles when we took it out and it came back with 26 miles and about 1/2 of the tires rosted, best part of the story its not mine!! i got a brand new one!! lol actually some guys of my dad's work take out brand new f-150s and rangers and go off-roading in them, while they are supposed to be at work, so if you think about it they are getting paid for it LOL
