My vote goes to the GT 500 over the Z06 imo for a number of reasons some of which already have been stated.
Upgrade to a KB 2.8 650-700 rwhp on a stock motor (long block) and supporting mods (gears, lca's., dr's etc) no problem should be a mid 10 second car. Potential w/KB to run up to 830+rwhp (your option) when needed on a stock motor should be 9.xx second car when it hooks, easily beat a Z06 Vette. IMO Vettes are a dime a dozen going down the street I don’t even look, but when I see a GT500, Viper or future Super Snake rolling down the street I look and will look Very possible (future) good resale valve down the road if you know what I mean should/will blow the Vette away in this department also. You also have the optional down the road to turn the car into a rare Super Snake and IMO a Vette can’t even compare to the looks of a Super Snake and if you running a KB will have the potential to blow the Vette away in the 1/4 mile. Love the retro look of the S197 Mustang. Love the Super Snake upgrade package even more!
The only way imo the Vette excels over the GT 500 imo is in handling. So looking at the above in my opinion you made a good decision, I might be also picking up a GT 500 in the near future and for the above reasons.
You got a pretty good deal, but I would have taken the SC off your car and sold it. Would have saved 3 grand.
Anyway, a GT500 engine can with twin turbos get 1000 rwhp. The supercharger is a bad choice for such an engine. The main problem will be putting down that HP.
I think mine would take a cammed ZO6 now. I don't think I would need the KB. That being said I haven't spent $85k just to get the ZO6 (mind you there are NONE in Southeast GA to buy even at that price) and another $3K for the Cam, Tune and Labor to install it either. I guess some cams and a KB might be overkill!! I understand the ZO6 weights 900#s less and it has better aerodynamics. I think 700 to ground will take care of that!!

There's some backseat driving, Monday morning quarterbacking going on here! Numbers are great but won't tell the whole story.
How many people shelling out advice have even sat in both cars, much less driven them?
As someone who has I gotta say that your choice would all depend on what you prefer. The Vette felt like a more exotic car, and could blow away the GT500 in the 1/4, 0-60, handling, etc. The clutch was very light and I had no problems with my weaker left knee. But getting in and out was a hassle, there's not much room, with no rear seats, and the price is significantly higher (MSRP vs MSRP). The Mustang felt a little too much like a regular GT, with not enough differences in the interior to justify the $13,000+ price increase. Plus the clutch was heavy and it could probably stand to be lowered. On the other hand it sounded amazing, had room for lots of luggage as well as more leg and head room. If you were to give me a choice of eaither car, and I had to use it as a daily driver, then I'd go with the GT500. If it was a second car, then the Vette Z06 would win
SCREW CHEVY!!!!!!!!!!!! Im so sick of people talking about buying a corvette or the new camaro. This is a mustang forum. Congrats on the GT500 keep it and enjoy it i know i would.

2007 Mustang GT - Its got mods. *Up for sale soon*
Z06's look like every other Vette on the road, you made the right choice. Look into Evolution Performance, they made thier GT500 go 9's with a shot of the NOS and some basic upgrades. No Z06 is going to do that. Besides, the Z06 is already at it's pinacle, if you want more out of it, you have to have major $$$$$, the GT500 is just at it's starting point!!
I guess there coming down a little, just traded my 08 torch red GT for an 08 performance wht. w/blue stripes GT500 in South Florida . Holy Cow its awesome! pd $50,500 love it!

If you dont mind me asking,
What was your trade in value on your Gt with kind of milage on it?
That race is way longer than a 1/4 mile, from a rolling start, and they were comparing the gt500 to a stock z06. It is no secret that past 1xx mph, the z06 dominates with a supercar top speed
GT500>z06 is my vote, way rarer, easy to mod, looks fantastic, and is way more practical.

Hey guys. Ok, I just want to tell me little story and vent. I traded my 06 hellion gt for a new gt500 yesterday. I could have bought an 07 c6 z06 for 10 thousand dollars more, but decided to go with the shelby. Now my tuner is telling me I made a huge mistake by not getting the vette. So really, Do you guys think I made the right choice? Just how much do I need to spend to get the snake just a little faster than the almighty z06? Please give some honest oppinions and advice. I had to pay 30,000 in cash plus my car to get this bad boy. Thanks guys.
You made a big mistake. The GT500 will never been in the same league with the Z06 now matter what you do to the engine. The Z06 will walk the dog on it all day long in the bends.

So what. Love the Z06. Wanted a Shelby. Just like the other 12 thousand people who own one.
I bought the Shelby because thats what I wanted. A bad ass, hunkered down, muscle car. Could have gotten a Z06 but, they are not fords.
