Hey guys.  Ok, I just want to tell me little story and vent.  I traded my 06 hellion gt for a new gt500 yesterday.  I could have bought an 07 c6 z06 for 10 thousand dollars more, but decided to go with the shelby.  Now my tuner is telling me I made a huge mistake by not getting the vette.  So really, Do you guys think I made the right choice?  Just how much do I need to spend to get the snake just a little faster than the almighty z06?  Please give some honest oppinions and advice.  I had to pay 30,000 in cash plus my car to get this bad boy.  Thanks guys.

Lidio at Alternative Auto has had good success with the GT500 and tuning:

So where do I pick p a 3.3 whipple from?  I got the gt500 for the purpose of:
1.  I enjoy not paying another 10 g's
2:  I like having a backseat.
3.  It seams that the gt500's motor can handle as much if not more than the zo6 motor can, or at least not as expensive to mod as the z06.
4.  It's a shelby so hopefully if I ever decide to sell it, it will bring me more back than a c6 z06.  What whp/wtq will it take to get into high 10's?  This is what a stock z06 can achieve.

Thanks a lot guys.  I appreciate it.

IMO, I would've got the z06.  That car is compared to supercars, the shelby is not.  Plus, if for only 10k more you could've had the z06, that means you must've paid a lot for the shelby.  10k over msrp... 15.... 20?

pulley swap, drag radials, good driver mod, CAI, tune SHOULD make you pretty damn close on the stock super charger, if not that, upgrade to a KB and just be done.

Thats a good point.....................

As much as i would want a GT500, at 10K more i would have to do the Z06 unless i could have worked some kind of deal on a SS or 40th. For an extra 10K though, The Z06 would be yankin my strings for sure.....

Now, If i was on a fix $ amount and did not have the xtra 10K? Then GT500 all the way.

I think with the mods I have I would take (Out Run) any stock Z06 out there!! I still have $10K less in my GT500 then any dealer wanted for a Z06. My next mod is a Moser 9" with 1:3.70s (not needed to take the Z06) and then maybe the KB Huffer. I will still be $3-4 K less then what you would pay for the Z06!!

Should have bought the Z06 IMO.

Scary fast + 10X better handling.

If I could afford one i would def own one in a heart beat.

The Shelby is nice but not even with the best supension mods is not going to out handle a new Z06.

I would have bought the Z06. I need the two rear seats since we like taking our kids out, but if I can swing having a third car in the next few years, it will be a Corvette.

The Mustang is super fun, don't get me wrong. But the Corvette is an amazing vehicle. I've had one before, and nothing quite compares in that price range.

Plus you can hit almost 200mph in the Z06 STOCK! Unreal.

I think the Shelby looks pretty nice though.

Brenspeed has done a good bit of tuning on the GT500. They offer a CAI and tune package that should give you the boost in HP you're looking for. It wouldn't take many mods to be able to beat a stock Z06 with a GT500. And I think you made the right choice because from what I hear, the engine in the GT500 is going to hold up better to the mods than the Z06 will. JMO

Z06's look like every other Vette on the road, you made the right choice. Look into Evolution Performance, they made thier GT500 go 9's with a shot of the NOS and some basic upgrades. No Z06 is going to do that. Besides, the Z06 is already at it's pinacle, if you want more out of it, you have to have major $$$$$, the GT500 is just at it's starting point!!

Alright guys.  Most of you seem to think that I am comparing the 500 in the hadling department.  I only drive to work and back, and may take some trips to the strip with my buddies here and there.  That said, I will soon be ordering and installing the Kenne Bell stage 3 kit with drive shaft, and rool cage here in the next few weeks.  I drove a z06 today, and yes it was fast, but I truly believe that my hellion gt with just under 500 whp/530wtq was a little quicker.  For I know now that the gt500, dollar for dollar is the best choice for me.  All I need is straight line racing, not road racing.  Even I know what a 700+whp gt500 will do to a c6 z06.  So for all that must know, I will be totaly in it for 55K  when all said and done for an absolute brute monster of a street car.  Thanks to the last few guys for making me feel I made the right desision.  I really thought I had messed up, but know now that when it comes to the gt500 modability....Its a truly awsome machine.  Thanks guys.       Oh yeah, some jack-arse said he could get an 07 gt500 with 100 miles on it for 37K!!!  What do you guys think?

Unless He or his Dad owns a Ford Dealership he is full of it!! I don't know what Actual Dealerships pay Ford for GT500s. I've not hear of anyone paying less then MSRP. I've only met one person that has said he paid MSRP. I do believe that person he had no reason to lie to me, he was about 60 years old and said he has always onwed Fords and had bought them all from the same dealership.

$55K out the door is real close to MSRP for an 08 Vert.  I paid a little less then $62K out the Door for my vert that was a little less then $8K over MSRP!!

If you are into quarter mile racing, then you made the PERFECT choice. . Sorry, I didn't know that.
In that case, you are going to be building a monster of a car, for less than a Z06. The advantages (in a straight line) of a Z06 tend to be aerodynamic (high speed), and in curves.

And I don't think there's a 2007 GT500 going for less than MSRP even used with 5,000 miles. And $37k is WAY under MSRP.

You did good!
