Default Cold weather is back

Just a comment, Now that the cool-cold weather is back so are all the interior rattles and squeaks, especially the dash, that I had hoped worked themselves out during the summer, NO SUCH LUCK[sm=smiley35.gif]

In the auto industry, they call these exterior/interior noises BSRs (bumps, squeaks, rattles). Over time, you'll hear more and more of them, not less. That's how it works.

If you work on this car, you'll see things like small pieces of felt tape, spongy foam, zip ties, etc. These things are usually put in place after a BSR is found by the engineers or quality inspectors. The vehicles are put on shaker tables and put through varying frequencies to simulate the roughest of road conditions. When a BSR is found, Ford calls the automotive supplier of that component to fix the problem. Sometimes the fixes are termed "band aids", such as applying felt tape or zip ties. Other times they require a redesign of the part, which can be costly.

The emphasis with my comment is that these "band aid" fixes may not last very long, leading to a return of the BSR.

So, next time you see a piece of felt tape anywhere on your vehicle, rest assured that it was put there as a quick fix.
