I met a cool guy today when I was getting some gas in my stang.

The guy said that I have a nice, new car, and I replied, "thanks man!, it's a 2005. It would look a whole lot better without all these swirls."

He replied, "you know what, your not waxing, dusting, and detailing correctly. You have to always use a Soft towel (a big one)(microfibers are too abrasive) and have to ALWAYS move the towel in a strait line, in the same direction ALWAYS.

He later gave me a card which says he has a car detailing business.

He recommends meguiars waxes and polishes as well.

just wondering what is softer than microfiber? bc that towel is pretty darn soft to me.  btw nice pic of your stang, those yellow foglights look cool.  if u notice my avatar is now from the front instead of the back.  are those new foglights or covers?

Hmmm...obviously he does not know what is a mircofiber....that's all I have used since day 1....and I barely have any swirl marks....

yeahhhh....microfiber is too abrasive? its pretty soft, and its benefits of no lint are pretty key, did he mention something to use in its stead?

Miscellaneous Notes:
  • We do not recommend using a chamois, since they can trap dirt and cause scratches. They also have a tendency to "pull" the wax off.
  • If possible, do not wash a car in bright sunlight. Soap suds can dry, which will leave a film. "Water spotting" also can occur when drops of water act like miniature magnifying glasses in bright sunlight. If a shaded area is not available, try washing in the late afternoon or early morning hours when the sun is not strong.

blueherd02Gt-

i dont understand what your posts are supposed to say: the guy 22kart met said that microfiber was too abrasive, he didnt mention chamois, and microfiber cloths are much softer than chamois, so i dont understand why you posted that quote.

To wash my car I use cotton glove. Then I use a california blade to dry it. Then I use chamuis to dry the parts where the blade cant reach.

I use meguiars  wax and soap too. The gold class stuff is good.

And onderfull, yes, those are headlight covers made by headlightarmor.com

Its a 3mm round sheet of vynl that you place on the lens to protect it

I wash my car with Meguires Car Wash, I rinse my car with my Mister Clean which has the water filter built in to prevent water spots, then I blow dry my car with my lawn blower, I also use Meguires Gold to wax my car, I always use  a microfiber towel to wipe the wax off  and polish my car, and I have no problem with swirl marks.

Zaino - if used correctly - is the easiest and best look I have found. Use it religously on my bike.

Normal towels.. especially polyester blends.. will cause swirl marks.

A great way to prevent swirl marks is to

1. do what the man said and wipe in a line.. not a circle.

2. I mist the car with detail spray while it's wet and wipe it down with a clean microfiber rag. I then polish it off with a new microfiber rag that was lightly dampened with more detail spray.

This gets the car looking really nice.. and does a good job at preventing scratches while drying the car.

It is hard to be able to find a good shaded spot to wash the car though...I know it is essential in preventing waterspots but quite hard. I clean and dry my car by section...six sections!
