I really want to get some Saleen "20's, I think they are the best looking Mustang wheels around IMO. I just love the way 20's look with these cars, they cover up the fender gap nicely and just look great! Are there any benefits from going to a "17 to a 20", are there any cons anything that I should know? Also I see that Saleen puts 275/35/20's on their cars but Tire Rack says that a 285/30/20 will fit the Saleen wheels; is one size better than the other? I ask because the tires that I want, the Bridgestone Pole Position RE90AS only come in that size for 20's, if there is a better tire than that that does not cost as much please tell me about, but I do want all season ultra-high performance tires.

I am curious about this also.. I was talking to a guy at work that has a M3, and he was going on and on about how badly a 20" rim will affect my performance. He even linked me to a bmw forum where people were saying that the bigger the rim.. the more terrible it is for your car, both wearing out parts, and slowing the car down.. How do 20"s affect a mustang?

Going from 17's to 20's will only weaken your performance. They are much heavier and you can't fit nearly as wide of a tire on the 20's. I spoke with Saleen about the tire size because I just put new rear tires on. They said not to 285's due to fenderwell clearance issues. Personally I like performance and looks equally. That's why i love my 20's and will make up for the added weight through the addition of horsepower. As far as additional wear goes the only thing affected I can imagine is brakes (i.e. more weight to slow down). It's all preference though. I just bought the Nitto 555's and LOVE them. Also thinking about getting a set of 17's for the track. You could also go that route.

Next week my car goes to saleen to get the 475 supercharger kit.. so I am already adding horsepower.. should be enough to make up for the decrease in performance by going with 20s

Absolutely......475hp is plenty of horsepower for a street car IMO.

But what about if you don't have a supercharger in your car, how much difference will there be with 20's on a stock stang?

Not terribly much Bart, maybe .1 in the quarter tops. If it's a stock stang I don't take it you'll be doing that much racing so then go for the 20's.

I run 20's on mine and like it, there may be a small performance drop but usually putting 20 inch wheels on a car is more about a look than performance. If performance was the only goal with putting different wheels on the car then you would be looking at 17's or even 16's, but you are not you are looking for a certain look and performance is secondary.

Funny enough, the guy at work that was trying to detere me from gettng the 20s, saw a mustang last night with 20s on it.. He said to me first thing today, "Dude.. I saw a mustang with 20s last night.. it SO works.. get them" lol
