has anyone taken their pwr steering, and smog pump all off? my ac has been replaced with a pulley, i want to get rid of the pulleys and rerout the belt so theres less under my hood. can it be done? anyone have any pictures maybe i could go by? all i want is my a/c though, and do i have to have a special rack an pinion to go without pwr steering?

You'll have to buy a manual rack but I wouldn't do away with power steering if it's going to be used frequently on the street

keep the powersteering and get a smog removal kit at www.50resto.com They sell the pulley you need and it is easy to install. keep your factory belt. thats it.

I got rid of everything but the alternator. Manual rack steers almost as good as power, but has more feedback through the wheel I think.

I like having a/c and power steering. Although I have never driven a Mustang without power steering. I'm on the poormans budget so I have just removed the smog pump and I took some string and ran it around the pulleys in order to get the proper length belt. I believe I had to use an 84.5 inch belt.

i drove a very well handling car before i got my mustang, which has no power steering, and i honestly think my mustang handles better.

I hate to steal the forum but, would that rack fit a 92 mustang?  And i have driven my mustang with no power steering in the pump and it was not bad at all.  It only got bad when i was barly moving.  With the manual rack be a little bit easier or the same?  i need ither a new power rack or manual conversion.........
