During one of my breaks at work (super market) i picked up a car mag (not sure which one) last month and low and behold the new cobra was in it. And all the goodies it will have, no IRS a 5.4 liter v-8 cranking out 550 Hp and much much more.......MUCH MORE....................................

Now for news that could be earth shattering to some, but old to many most likely. SVT will not be making this years cobra nor will john coletti have any part in this mustang, this time fords giving it back to the man who started it all, carrol shellby! with the 11 second mark as the 1/4 mile time, this could be the fastes production mustang.

the 2007 SHELBY mustang cobra 5.4 liter supercharged v-8 probally AND beacuse it has no irs they saved 50 million dollars in production and should go for 60-70 grand, as for the 100K the only time youll be seeingf that is when you look at your firebirds mileage......j/k (asshole by nature sorry) or the price for a lingenfelter corvette to try and beat one (sorry again)

Ah, sarcasm....at least I'd hope you don't actually believe that.

Oh ya, congrats on the '94 Cobra. Those were sure impressive.

If that car has a 550hp motor, runs 11's in the 1/4, and is still under $100k, I'll kiss your ass.

from what i've heard it will have either a 500 or 550 hp rating. i know it sounds hard to believe a 550 hp number. realistically i can see them rating it somewhere like ''465-485'' underrated hp. but dude i think we can both agree the next cobra will be under 100k and hit low 12's and high 11's

Ford GT = 550hp, runs 11's, can turn, cost $150k

Cobra = 550hp, runs 11's, can't turn, cost $40k

Something just doesn't add up. Everything I've read said the Cobra will the be the same motor it currently has, just bumped up hp numbers. Which would be like rating it at the actual number of today's Terminators.

Hey man, he might be a GM guy, but he knows a hell of a lot about cars, even Fords. He's been on this board a long time and he KNOWS what he's talking about.

I honestly see them putting that car WAY up there in price if it's pulling down numbers that come close to the GT. Especially if Shelby throws their name on it. I saw a GT500 concept a while back that started at like $150k or more. Don't remember the website, but I'll try and look it up.

Anything Shelby is going to come with a HEAVY price tag... if you knew anything about mustangs, which you seem to think you do, you should know that.

I'm not taking sides here, because it's not my argument, but you should watch what you say to some of the veteran members-- you won't be one of the noobs that people wanna get to know.

^^ He's right. And C@19, the engine in that SHELBY is straight out of the GT, so other than being a Shelby, it's also got some VERY expensive SVT parts. Don't believe me? Try to buy a crate GT engine, IF you can even find someone who sells them.

SVT isn't going anywhere. And even if they do, I guess I don't really care. I've got an '04, because I like the SN95s better, even if they are an inferior car. If I wanted something that looked like a '68, I would've bought a '68 instead. SVT has its earliest roots in the
svo group of the '80s, niether of which have ANYTHING to do with Carrol Shelby. In fact, in '93 when SVT released the first SVT Cobra, Shebly tried to sue Ford. Not sure how Ford won that one though. Other SVT models have come and gone, but the Cobra has always been SVTs star vehicle. They will introduce the next SVT Cobra in late '06. as an '07 model.

And I wouldn't be so quick to write off vehicles like the Lingenfelter just 'cause it's a GM.

Maybe you should read more than just ONE magazine article (Motor Trend, Mar 05, page 16-17, wasn't it?) before you go and make such brash statements and getting rude with people. I'm just a noob too, but I have more sense than that. And for your info, the article said FORD saved more than $70 mil, not SHELBY. I'll also bet that 98LS1's 'Bird will spank your Cobra, and to finish it off, what's so special about Shelby's Cobra going 11's? Mine will do that with a K&N FIPK and drag radials...

i doubt it will be an exact ford gt swap in there. but i do not doubt the capabilities of the 5.4 sc engine. they will use many 2k cobra r parts if necessary. and no they will not charge over 100k dollars for the next cobra. just because it has the shelby name does not mean they are going to push the price over 100k. the reason ford even used the cobra name way back in 1993 was because they had the RIGHTS to it, which shelby didn't like. if they had not used the name they would have lost the rights to it. either way no matter what it is called it will be one hell of a machine that can run low 12's at WORST. and if it can be modded anywhere near to the extent the current cobras can be it will be one car to be reckoned with.

This is what I read:
465HP, 6-speed manual running in the low 12's with a trap speed of 120mph! You choose the rear suspension set up, either IRS or Solid Rear Axle with the IRS apparently pulling over 1.0g in the corners. 5.4 Supercharged, 3 valve heads (with HUGE valves), forged internals similar to the 4.6 (Crank, rods, etc), modestly rated (under rated actually) ~465 HP/495 lb ft Torque, using a twin screw S/C similar to that on the Ford GT but pullied differently, hence the lower HP.

true indeed, i like pushrods more then modular motor. Heard somewere it takes 600hp for a 4.6 to keep up with a 400 hp 5.0 so pushrod will probally win in chevys case.but then again the stang could be lighter evening it out.

I dont think thats true at all... many factors too, 2,3,4valve ammount of cams etc. Hp's are hp's though

Yes hp is hp and it couldnt be more true then that. But how quick you can put that power to the ground matters just as much. If motor A has only a few parts moving and motor B has nearly double the parts of motor A, then Motor A power will get to the ground quicker and to make it even lets say both cars have built rears and slicks and there both N/A with the same amount of HP. I have a tendency of not making sense when i talk so im trying to put it in a light people can understand. Think of it as the way you would want to go to work if your running late, would you go the shortest route possible or would you make all sorts of uncessary turns that couldve been avioded? EVERYONE knows the pushrod motor is gods gift to drag racing. Not to hate on the 4.6 though i do like it just i prefer a 5.0. But that 4.6 in the last cobra they made was disturbingly amazing on the fact of all forged internals. Do 94 cobras have forged internals at all?

How the power is put to the ground really has nothing to do with they type of engine... unless its midrear as opposed to front.

Throw a blower on it? Are you kidding me? Do you really want to see a $70,000 Z06 gets blown into pieces so quickly? Unless you do major internal mods, I can't see how a 12:1 ratio motor is good for any amount of boost.

4.6 Cobras can do 1000 hp on STOCK INTERNALS LS1, LS2, LS6 or LS7 won't come anywhere close to that. Not that they're bad motors, they're just not designed for boost.
