Alot of kids at my high school are doing this. take the 12v lead off of the deck harness, and use it topower an ipod transmitter, etc. they also use the deck ground. I really cant say I know about it, i just know its bad. Wouldnt it be a live/hot wire!?

its just a power wire.  If everything were fuse correctly(IF IF IF) it would be fine. They would probably be better off getting a +12v switched wire so that it would turn off with the key but otherwise it is no different then plugging into the cig lighter.........
