Default 01"-04" Whats the Best Bet?

Looking to buy a used GT and i want to know which year has the best pros and cons. Manuel tranny and responds good to any upgrades, thanx ps remember 01-04 GT

The latter mod motors seem to be a little more reliable. I work at ford and we have many of the early mods in for repair. From 97-01 there was an intake manifold recall so steer clear of those years. If it comes down to it I can look up the warranthistory for you by the vin and tell you if the recall has been taken care of.

99-00 had better manual tranny's than the 01 and up in terms of reliability and ability to handle moded motors.
96-98 had the most intake problems with cracking but ford extended the warranty on 96-2001 models.
04 models had issues with spark plugs being blown out due to the lack of threads on the OEM plugs


All in all I'd say an 02 or 03 is probably the best to go with. Even though the tranny is not the best, if you're planning an HP monster you'll probably be upgrading that anyway.
