for drag racing, Solid rear FTW, For road courses, or just weekend driver, IRS FTW. Unless ur plannin on going to the 1/4 mile track a lot, with sticky tires, i would just keep the IRS
A solid rear is not necessary for reliable drag race use. The key to not breaking half-shaft is eliminating wheel hop. That can be rather easily done. The Cobra IRS is not the best setup out there as far as IRS systems go, but it is a lot better than a solid rear setup as far as ride quality and cornering performance. Which is why the IRS is a big plus on a road course. My recommendation would be to read through this link and consider beefing up the suspension. If you really want to go solid rear (an easy conversion) here is a link for that, too.
Follow this link tothe FAQ page on my website. On the left side, just below DynoFacts, you'll see a Red Pilland a Blue Pill. Click on the appropriate Pill to learn how to beefup your stock IRS or going with a built 8.8 solid rear. http://www.stangshiftergaskets.com/2003_2004faqs.htm
