Ok sleeper_inc did a post on how to gut an early 2.3 fox air silencer. I have done the same thing, but I only removed the smallest part of the silencer, as I noticed that removing the larger part caused the engine to lose throttle response, rather than gaining it.
This is it:

And here is the stupidity of it:

of course you notice that the air has to go through a tiny little hole. my plan was to make this hole a little bigger.
So I pulled out the smaller part of the silencer:

BTW I just stuck a lead pipe into the silencer and pushed the smaller piece right out.
I had to adjust my idle a little, because it dropped to about 850 (isn't it supposed to be like 1000?) The idle goes up and down a little (maybe 50-100rpms, not much at all).

I noticed a nice bump in throttle response, as well as some more sound, and a small increase in acceleration.

I didn't really think it was very hard. I was just wondering for a long time if it would screw up my engine.

Ok so I drove it to and from school today, and it grumbles now after I let off the gas, much like your typical sports car would do. Am I leaning out? And if so, should I worry about it? I can put everything back together really quick, but I kinda like the way it is. I just wanna know if it's gonna hurt my engine.

its not gonna hurt it at all.  you should just take measurements, and put a piece of exhaust tubing where that goes.  im gonna get a CAI for a 2.3 ranger and put it on my car.

Check your plugs unless you have a WB. If you see white you are running lean, or your heads cracked

Air Fuel Ratio, just measures a wide range (hence wide ban)

How do I know if I have a wide ban? I need to take my car in soon anyways to get a general tune up. I would do everything myself, but my schedule keeps getting tighter and tighter.

You have to buy the kit. Its a gauge telling you what your A/F ratio is (11:1, 15:1 etc)

wide banD..wide band

It consists of a 4 wire wide band o2 sensor and a controller to interpret the signal. Factory o2 sensors are narrow band and work in the milli-volt range and are only accurate around the stoic point of oxygen and fuel (~14.64:1)

I just took a video so you guys can hear my car. http://s165.photobucket.com/albums/u70/al_ngl/93%20Mustang%20LX/?action=view&current=DSCN1439-1.flv
Btw I didn't floor it at all during that, that's why it didn't seem very much more responsive in the vid. It really is.
I also noticed that one of my exhaust hangers is broken, and my exhaust is resting on my axle. Better get that fixed.

I need some way to video it on the road, I can't think of any. Anyway, I just got home and checked out my exhaust situation, my hanger didn't break, my tailpipe rusted through right at the muffler. From the look of things under there, I should probably replace the muffler, too or it'll be next. Maybe I'll get a cheap aftermarket muffler. People seem to notice my car more at school since it's louder, and people play around on the roads like they wanna race or something.

Btw, I didn't just leave the tailpipe there, I removed it so it would stop scraping against the ground.
