Default 2 part question.

I'm a newbie with mustangs. so i need to ask a question. What is the smog pump used for, and if i don't need it can i eliminate it without having my check engine light on?

It's used for emissions. Deleting it is not uncommon but you probably won't be abel to pass inspection without it. I'm not too sure on the engine light though.
