Default Getting scratches out of a black car

Okay - Adam03GT suggested I post this in a more appropriate category (I had it in OT)

Friend has a black Altima - daughter decided to draw hearts with a rock in the paint.

What's the best way to get these out? Wetsand? A wax of some sort? Is there a miracle product I don't know about?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm talking about a real scratch, not those swirls. I had a Black 95 Cobra, I understand the swirls...[&:]

if you can run your finger nail over it and feel the scratch you are out of luck it is gonna have to be repainted most likely

you may try scratch x or something like that but it will not fix it for good it is only a filler that will be gone after a few washes

buffing with lessen the scratch but overall you cant get rid of a deep scratch.. dont touch it up.. it wont look right..

Well if you know the proper method to using touch up paint & a buffer, you can almost always hide and make it look new...

I agree but I would just have a body and paint guy to look at it and decide if it is a repair with touch up or a repaint. Hearts in black paint sounds painful to me. Any pics of the damage for us?

Default RE: Getting scratches out of a black car

I have a black car and I am absolutely anal about it. When I had my trans done (in and out 3 times) the techs did a number of my fender. Scratches allllll over it. I was pissed, but couldnt prove anything.

Here is my suggestion.

Use a polish on it. Hand polishing works, but not all that well. So I suggest machine polishing it with an orbital buffer. I have found that a few minutes of polishing with griots fine hand polish and the orbital buffer. If it starts to dry out, add a little more polish. This will remove any wax buildup and other crap in the paint so you can really examine it. Now id suggest using turtle wax colored wax with the chip stick. Follow the directions for the chipstick and wax it. I did not even need to use the chipstick on my scratches. Polishing makes this product way more effective (so I have found). Its amazing how well it actually works. Of course it will wear off after a few rains and car washes so you may have to wax the area with the black wax, but hey, its going to hide it pretty well.
