boozshey - The hood pins look really good.  Did you use anything to keep the holes in the hood from rusting (other than peanut butter)??  I really want to put pins on my stang but the thought of drilling into the hood or rust down the line keeps me from doing it.  Also do you have to worry about the paint cracking or chipping when you drilled or is this somthing you avoid by drilling from the bottom up??

rehtorb

The hoods are aluminum and aluminum does not rust....

+1 for common sense!

Has anyone tried these? I picked them up. They are all aluminum and are slotted so the pin slides back to release so no cable is needed. I like them because you can't scratch the hood.

Let me know what you think.

Wanting to put them on this.

Thanks
John

This isn't a totally true statement. Aluminum can rust.

In regards to this applicationt I, in fact ,have bubbling of the paint near the plates for my hood pins on both sides, so if you are looking to do this, I'd seal the edges.

Actually aluminum corrodes. Rust is just corrosion on steel.
Definatly paint or otherwise seal any exposed edges if you make holes in your hood.
I've worked with aluminum for over 30yrs now on aircraft. Any time we finish, we use a chemical called alodine to treat any exposed edges, etc. before priming & painting.
Highly recommend anyone cutting into your hood prime & paint any exposed edges before installing hood pin, scoops, etc.

I had the same hood pins on my old car for about a year and the pins and the circular plate both rusted.  I would recommend getting stainless steel hood pins.  JMO though

nice write-up. i got the same set. thought they say they dont rust, they do. i already had to replace them once. i'd go for ford oem pins if i could do it again. also, alluminum does rust (the hood), it just takes a hell of a lot more to get it to rust. ever leave a sheet of foil outside in the rain for about a week? it does rust...

We were on a long trip...very windy and when a semi passed going the opposite direction I thought we were gonna lose the damn hood....so thank-you for the write up Boozshey...followed it to the T & it worked perfect. Was going to seal them, but now we have snow & cold so I'll wait till spring. Here's a pic of mine on...
