I dont really like this 4.6 liter motor to tell you the truth, never have. I still dont understand why they stopped it, it was like there trademark motor. Who doesnt know to raise an eyebrow when you say "5.0 mustang"? does it work with 5.0 camaro or fire bird? no then you sound weird. No 4.6 liter will ever touch a 5.0 thats modded out the same way, the amount of moving parts is increadlbly diffrent in terms of numbers of. The sound of a 4.6 is defnitaly v-8 and when modded out is always impressive, but again the sound of a 5.0 modded is just disgusting and scary, any import i met at a stop light will tell you that and im stock right now. 4.6s are just to expensive to mod out as well, seeing as how parts havent been made since the dinosaurs like the 5.0s parts. a set of heads on a 5.0 will run you good, but for the 4.6 itll run you dead. I wish they just kept the 5.0 in the cobra and the 4.6 in the gt. Wouldve made it more offical in my opinion.
The stock 5.0's are overrated IMO... 220 hp's. The foxbody is a good body to build a drag car but the stock motor isnt very quick.
If they kept the 5.0 in the cobra... and a 4.6 with with pp heads in the gt's... not the cardboard ones ford decided to use in mid 90's.... the cobra is going to be slower... doesnt make much sense.

Thats true ill give you more horses smaller motor is a good thing... but for years like one person said 5.0 stated mustang . end of story you said a 5.0 V-8 everyone assumed you were tlaking about a mustang..... 4.6 just doesnt have the same ring lol. i like old school though
the late 80's and early 90's were a different time...until the lt1 f bodies came along, the 5.0's were pretty badass. i can guarantee that if the 5.0 was around today it would be AT LEAST like the old cobras with the better intake, heads, and roller rockers.

any cheap sportscar stock is overrated, put a couple bolt ons and you have a 13 second car. thats what makes the 5.0 so popular.

it's all about the cammer... 5.0L engine, 412+hp N/A, strong bottom end, and it's an easy drop in motor for a mustang. i'll be grabbing one in a couple of years if the new cobra is unimpressive.

heheheh less power but stronger more lasting motor from what ive seen... my cousin ahd a 5.0 standard 92 model. He raced it for about 100k miles or so and his theory was never shift out of second gear until over 100 mph. It worked he outran everything until the ZO6 vettes came out. Of course towards the end it started getting to where the car wouldnt stay in second and you would have to manhandle it to keep it in gear lol. Someone try it and tell me if my cousin jsut had a wierd car or if thats a new idea lol

Jugador, finally we agree on something. Basically Ford came out with the modular engines to save money. They are able to produce different type of engines from similar parts, thus reducing cost. It's no secret GM has been able to improve HP and gas mileage with the pushrods and Ford could had done the same but instead they went a completelly different way. Like you said, if ford invested money and resources in the old 302s and 351s we would have HP and gas mileage comparable to GM.

5.0= 225hp 4.6=260hp More hp out of a smaller motor. No wonder it sounds good!!
They put crappy heads on the 5.0 to tone it down, thats why AFRs add 75hp. A 5.0 with heads will mop the floor with a 4.6 with PI heads. Nevermind a 5.0 mustang being a few hundred pounds lighter.
Motor Trend reports in the March 2005 issue that the Shelby Mustang will be released as a 2007 model and will be powered by the Ford GT's 550-hp supercharged 5.4L 4V V-8. It will not have IRS as previously planned, but a "beefed up" live axle.
