Ever since I got to USD, I have been parking my car in the back corner of the parking structure (what I thought to be the safest place around campus). I walked out to my car yesterday and saw something on my bumper. I inspected it closer and wouldn't you know it, there was a big white scratch with some of my paint scraped off. Now I am not an angry person. I get upset sometimes but rarely mad. I completely lost it. I started screaming and yelling and running around (I know it sounds stupid but just wait till it happens to you and you cant afford to fix it ). Before I get crap about this, I know its not the end of the world, I know it couldve been worse and all that blah blah blah, but I cant get over it right now so I am going to rant. I filed a report to see if the campus police can do anything about it. Ive tried to be mature about it (outside of my little episode after seeing the damage), but if I find out who did it, I feel sorry for them. I know its not worth going to jail over by getting back at the person and I wont do anything stupid that might in any way result in that. I told the policeman that they better find them before I do but keep in mind it was all in complete rage at the time. I just cant get over the fact that this happened, Im just going out of my mind...dont need any parental advice right now please, im not gonna do anything stupid I promise, im just extremely upset EDIT: Dont ask me for any damn pictures please

Well that just sucks Does it look like a vehicle caused it or do you think it was vandalism? Any cameras in this parking location? Is it paint only or is there damage to the plastic? How big is the damaged area - it might be easier/cheaper to fix than you think using a quick paint blend since your car is black. Or touch up paint and some wet sanding as a quick fix Also, is this the rear bumper - I'm assuming so since you have the clear bra on the front.

Sorry to hear about your scratch. Everyone will give you advice, touch up this and touch up that etc. What I'd probably do is wait will the spring to do any permanent work, if it happened once, theres a chance it could happen again (and we are only in mid-September) sorry I don't know your area at all but how is public transit? Maybe worth while taking that on days you know the lot will be fuller than normal (e.g. exam/test days). At least once drop-outs start happening in the next month or 2 the lot will be a little less full.

Not trying to be an ass - but you can afford an 06 Saleen (with some mods, no less), but can't afford to fix a scratch? Okay, I know it sucks, you shouldn't have to pay to fix it anyway - whatever. Still. But hey, you're parking at a college. It's going to get scratched. Just wait till you're done to fix it.

Mickey, you have every right to be upset and I feel for you. The first cut is the deepest, I know. Trust me, when Georgia got her first dent, I was boo-hooing in the dealer's lobby! But take heart, it won't be as painful as the days go by and you develop a plan to have it taken care of. You might want to take the advice of the others and wait til Spring or even later, since you are living in an environment where this is bound to happen, no matter how careful you are. What you will find when all is said and done is a comfort level that nothing is either permanent or irreparable. Bumps, dings, the occasional hail damage will happen but we and our cars are resilient and both will recover nicely. But for now, feel like **** and be mad as hell. The rest of us would be too!! We love ya Mickey.

I hate to hear the bad news but I would never park in a college parking lot without expecting some kind of damage. I work right across the street from Cal State Fullerton and just watching all the ignorant people ding someone's door or drag their backpack along the side of it makes me cringe. Buff it out but I wouldn't get anything repainted until after you graduate. P.S. - I know you said you wouldn't do anything stupid if you found out who did it, but i might know some people who will lol

Wow! That was your car? I saw the entire thing happen. There was this blonde woman with a toy dog in her lap trying to drive around the corner and park next to you. all the sudden I hear a " oops, I did it again, " and Britney got out of her car and checked her Mercedes but not your car. She did not leave a note. Sorry, I didn't get an autograph. Really, we feel your pain. You have to stay out of those places. 95% of everyone parking in there are driving cars owned by their parents or bought by their parents so they don't give a sh**. Welcome to Southern California. Damn, that sucks that this happened.

I feel ALL your pain, but I'll give you a couple of thoughts to (hopefully) improve your mood. 1.) Black is truly about the easiest color to match. I am an idiot with paint and even I was able to touch up and buff a scrape on a black car with excellent results. You can make this a lot better with very minimal $. 2.) Bumpers are somehow different than body panels when it comes to concern over original paint. Any car driven in the real world is going to get some chips, scratches, etc. on its bumper(s) at some point and many will be repainted just for normal "wear." Before my Saleen I had a 1998 Carerra "S," one of the last air cooled 911s made and often owned and bought by very anal purists. Even in that crowd, a carefully re-sprayed bumper was considered to be OK, and miles away from true body damage. (I had my bumper re-sprayed and the buyer actually considered it a plus because it looked like new and better matched the condition of the rest of the car.) Hang in there and do the best you can with the repair, and you'll be fine. Final thought: would a cover help, or would that just draw more attention to the car?

Im calming down a bit now. Thanks for all of yalls concern. Jason, it was definitely a white car (the damage was low) and the scratch is about 8 to 10 inches long (the length of a front bumper). I am not planning on fixing it now, I agree with waiting till spring, good advice. I have a cover but left it at my house but am getting it down here next week. As for not being able to afford to fix it, dont really want to get into that right now. My parents think I am stupid for putting every penny I have into being able to afford the car for reasons just like these, but I think it's worth it. I will just have to get a part-time job during the school year to get it fixed later on (even though I wasnt planning on working my first year of college). I appreciate everyones concern

i know funds are limited, but i would fix it. i hate dents and dings. you could shop for price, but go for quality in repair. do you have any left over mod parts you could sale, last semester books, birthday money, early xmas present from parents.......you have some work to do, i want it fix by next week. 1 dent will lead to 2, 3 and before you know it, you will needs tires and every panel is in need of repair.

Ya that sucks man i know ho you feel. Except mine experience was a little worse. I had bought my 02 saleen from st louis area. I drove down and trailered it back. I got home about 9 at night and i parked it at my dads shop. Then it was never the same. Between 9 oclock that night and 8 the next morning it had been vandalized while it was still on the trailer. Took the front bumper, tore the hood scope, side scoops, and spoiler off the car. And i mean tore to the point i had to fix all the metal from how bad they bent it. Then the spoiler was tore out of the fiberglass deck lid and had to be re-fiberglassed for it to fit again. Then they ripped off all the emblems scratching the paint whereever they were. Then also stole 3 of the 4 rims which was odd.(thats why im selling the one authentic i have left on here). So i feel your pain and it sucks so bad that people cant respect nice cars and be careful around them. Sorry to hear that it happened and i would just wait until your done with college to get it fixed. Or invest in a hunk of junk car to drive around at college and leave your nice car for special occasions until your done. Sorry

That sucks Mickey ! One of the toughest things with those situations, IMO, is you're so mad.....and you've got no one you can hold accountable for it . The fact that it's white paint that got transferred probably makes it look worse than it may be after it's buffed out a little. Look on the bright side, the color BLACK could once again save the day due to its user friendliness (no comment Jazzer ).

quote:
ORIGINAL: AmyVCTexas Hey Mickey, one point of contention I have with a previous recommendation: in places like where your car is parked, I think a car cover is a giant neon sign directing people with less than honorable motives toward your car. There are places where you just don't want to stand out in that way and a college parking lot would be one of them IMO. It is a decision only you can/should make, but be sure to weigh the benefits of protection that the cover will provide vs. the risk of the unwanted attention the car cover will draw. I'm runnin' out of pennies; this opinion is free!! I will take that into account. Thank you Amy
