I have some problems with my points (sometimes it's good, sometimes it's pretty bad) so I think I should switch to a Pertronix.

Some questions:

- How much would it cost me? (part + labor)
- Can I do it myself (I really am a beginner)
- Will I gain some power? I still have the feeling that I have a weak car at low RPMs.

That's a really clean looking car. Where did you get the side scoops for that thing?

Sweet Mustang Remi. I like the paint. James nailed it. It's easy to install and you will idle smoother. Get a hotter coil and new plugs too, you might even see a performance gain.

I've heared good and bad about pertronix, you can get a rebuilt duraspark dist, you can even convert your point dist to duraspark easily and a stock ford module for about the same price. I would probaly do that before the pertronix, if you ever broke down I doubt your local or distant auto parts would have replacement pertronix parts but I know they have duraspark parts in stock...........my first dura spark conversion cost me about 15-20 bucks out of the pick a part junk yard, dist, module and harness and with the duraspark you can use a ford, gm,dodge, bosch,nissan,toyota or just about any module that floats your boat, msd ,accell, mallory ign controllers can be used as well.

Given Remi's absence, I'll take a stab:

Waldo - If I'm understanding you correctly, I think you are referring to the scoops in front of the rear wheels (looks like they're for brake ventilation). For the '67-'68 years, this "scoop" was standard...even though it was merely for decoration (no brake ventilation - at least not without modification). You can see on the 64.5-66 years they did not have them so prominent. Perhaps you wereconfusing them with the Shelby side scoops? Sorry I don't have a picture to post for you.

Xian67 - Again I'm guessing here, but the tires look like they have a width of 205 or 215 and a sidewall height of 60 or 70 depending if its a 14" or 15" wheel. They don't lookextreme, so my guess probably isn't that far off. As you probably already noted, the tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/A's mounted on a Mag 500 wheel.

Remi - The pertonix swap is indeed VERY easy to the point where nobody should be intimidated to do it. Although I have been reading a lot about some people having issues with them, I have not experienced any of it. The reason I likethe Pertronixis because I was lazy when it came to adjusting points anyhow. Don't expect extra HP, but it works wonders for smoothing out an idle and starting. (Again, could have been my neglect of the conventional points.) Lastly, I see your front license plate holder...I'm a Hokie from '96.

Converting to a Pertronix will take 15-30 minutes, the instructions are detailed and accurate. I doubt you will see any power gains, just better reliability. It also is completely hidden under the distributor cap so your engine compartment remains stock, which some people like.
