What is the best RPM to launch this car based on what you guys know for an all out drag </P>

I'm aware its not amazingly fast, but this guy witha Celica GT talks alot of trash =) we are planning on racing, but i haven't really played around with launching rpms.. everything is stock and i'm just looking for a number to start playing around at?</P>

</P>

Put this in the v6 forum as well, wasn't sure which one it belonged in :) Thanks for any help</P>

Id say launch it at around 5000 rpm's and feather the clutch all the way through 1st gear, but if you wanna be traditional then I would guess 3000 - 35000rpm would be a good place to start

start with 1500 and work you way up or down as needed

Celica GT's are pretty fast for what they are. Better be on your game!..<IMG src=smileys/smiley20.gif border="0">

ahha, i know they are nice game for a v6, that's why i'm asking advice from people who may have more experience with their car than i do </P>

i told him to wait a little for me to get used to this car, i just got it and traded in my 2002 zx2, which is not a bad car itself, this is just.. alot more car :)</P>

my car is 5 speed as well as his car, mine is 03 and his is.. not 03, but a newer model.. 01 or 02, i think i gotta get it straight off the line or i just won't, heh.. and i have a huge bottom end compared to his</P>

Damn!</P>

With my GT, I couldn't launch any higher than 2000 rpms otherwise I would REALLY spin &amp; wheel hop all the way through 2nd &amp; 3rd... I know he has a V6, but I saw a similar discussion and the guy had a V8!</P>

and i know the guy in the celica likes to powershift, so should i also do that?</P>

i chirp the back tires without power shifting, last thing i need is to lose more traction on the 1-2 shift.. that and i don't know how durable these mustang clutches and trannys are.. my zx2's were crappy =)</P>

redneck101
10-22-2003, 09:25 PM
Just to be safe, I would powershift the hell out of it, and yes, those clutches are fairly tough. If you dont powershift and you lose or something, you wont get the chance to explain that you were taking it lightly on the gears ya know? Good luck man!!! Post those results after the race!.</P>

on another positive note, he does have some type of subwoofers and stuff system in his car... i'd assume any weight on the back end of a FWD car is bad for them.. and just weight in general

redneck101
10-22-2003, 10:05 PM
Yep, weight definitely affects 4 bangers more than your v6. Don't worry, you've got this race by the balls! <IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>

I power shift so fast there isn't a chirp...I would invest in a beter shifter before you do...

dan????? did ya like that...some times some questions are just silly. I have driven 100's of cars all are different even 2 mustang<edited><editID>vfast</editID><editDate>37916.8727662037</editDate></edited>

he claims to beat v6 mustangs all the time with his system in... and that he pulled on a GT (EDIT: that he BEAT one just barely [his car is fully stock by the way]).. and i just said the GT wasn't racing, cause those things haul ass stock :) <edited><editID>Corrupted</editID><editDate>37916.8402314815</editDate></edited>

haha yeah, i couldn't think of a nice way to put it, "tuner" fits... and his special s2000 which stock is 1 second faster than all the others by a feat of magic! he has said he's getting an s2000 from some relative for 6 months at least now and that it runs LOW 13s stock, sometimes i wonder if he is a comedian

If he's not a comedian, he's got natural skillsat making people laugh...</P>

(edit) I just noticed you posted a pic of your car, I don't usually like the looks of a v6 mustang, but the color and THOSE wheels look real nice together. Nice choice...</P><edited><editID>redneck101</editID><editDate>37916.8822916667</editDate></edited>

i just threw that pic on there when i replied.. i may get better wheels for traction purposes.. either the (http://www.mach1registry.com/photos/060802%20015.jpg (http://www.mach1registry.com/photos/060802%20015.JPG target=))mach 1wheels</A>or the (http://www.racerwalsh.com/images/wheels4.gif (http://www.racerwalsh.com/images/wheels4.gif target=))light grey gt</A> ones </P>

I tried to look at those, but I got a "Page Not Found". I have the light grey premium wheels on mine which is Torch Red, but not too sure what they may look like on white. Honestly, I love your current wheels, maybe you should do a suspension mod instead. So you want different wheels so you can go wider with your tires?</P>

Corrupted
10-22-2003, 11:23 PM
yes, i would like wider tires. what if i did the charcoal colored GT rims and do some kind of black/white thing with the car.. thats why i was looking at the mach1's because they keep the same color basically

redneck101
10-22-2003, 11:33 PM
That would be "unique". Don't know about you, but I enjoy a car much more when there isn't another one like itaround. If you were gonna do a black/white with your car(and this is only my opinion),maybe do Roush wheels.And if you don't paint your car, the Roush wheels wouldstill look great.They may cost a little more, but that would lookgreat I think..

Your friend may have pulled on a late 5.0 or early 4.6.</P>

He wouldn't stand a chance in hell against a 2001+ GT.</P>

redneck101
10-22-2003, 11:36 PM
I don't believe that he could pull on any v8 stang, and I seriously doubt a 01' or 02' celica gt could pull on a v6 stang either..!</P>

but check out their POWER 140 hp @ 6,400 rpm -125 lb.-ft. @ 4,200 rpm<IMG src=smileys/smiley6.gif border="0"></P>

looked at roush, it's a little out of budget, that's for sure :)</P>

edit: just for a little fun, i played with power to weight ratios on our cars (v6 and the celica gt).. rounding up on my car (including the weight of me.. 3066lbs + 140)and rounding down on his(not including him or his systems weight), my power to weight is still better =)</P>

him = 2400lbs / 140hp = 17.14 -- me = 3200lbs / 193hp = 16.58</P><edited><editID>Corrupted</editID><editDate>37916.9078819444</editDate></edited>

yeah, Roush is pricey. Its a tough one with those other two wheels, just not sure what would look best. Those mach1 wheels look awesome, but not sure how they would look on your car cause I have only seen them on the mach ya know.</P>

Nobody said sixers are god.... If he is on his game, he should take it. And NO, he won't stomp that ricer,BUT,hewill prolly win. Stomp is a big word in racing.</P>

Edit.. Oh, and corrupted, the Mach 1 wheels definitely look much better !! </P><edited><editID>redneck101</editID><editDate>37917.4259837963</editDate></edited>

him = 2400lbs / 140hp = 17.14 -- me = 3200lbs / 193hp = 16.58</P>

</P>

Doesn't that make his power-weight better? </P>

</P>

No, his would be 17.14lbs/hp (pounds per horsepower) and mine would be 16.58... his 17.14 doesn't include his weight or the weight of his system, meaning it would still be a higher number increasing the amount of pounds each hp has to push..</P>

i'm sure you guys were waiting to see the results, heh..</P>

day1: I test out launch rpms while racing him (bad idea for me :P).. both races i lose by 1.5 cars or so.. i spun so bad i redlined at 20mph in 1st and shifted to 2nd and.. that's bad :) .. him 2, me 0</P>

day2: Launched from idle to be safe and avoid any wheelspin for sure, that's a win for me by 1-1.5</P>

day3: he wins first race when i go from idle by 1.5... second race i launch at a lowly 2000rpm and he was ahead by 1 car through 1st and 2nd and in 3rd i caught up and was .5 in front, 4th i just walked ahead from then.. </P>

so in the end.. him 3, me 2.. not too bad for my first few races in the stang... kinda new with launch techniques in it, i'm going to practice higher rpm launches while trying to avoid the wheelspin that owned me in the first 2.. but thinking about it, the 3 races i didn't spin crazy in i was close or won, can't beat that ^_^</P>

he took his system out (sold it) which i learned later freeing him of some weight that would have killed him</P>

he's cool though.. he may talk alot of bs, but he is like.. hey great race and stuff, not a bad loser or winner.. doesn't rub in face for win or bitch on a lose :)</P>

Yeah, if he has better rubber, that means better bite off the line. Man, too bad you are not in florida. Jack Roush is going to be here at the local ford dealership tomorrow signing dashes and putting peoples cars on a dyno for them.
