I need help deciding if to install my TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) on my new rims or should I just place them in a pipe with a valve and inflate to 32psi, fooling the car into thinking my tires are filled?

consider this
1. If I did install my TPMS on my new wheels and for some reason one of them failed,I would have no way of pinpointing exactlly which one is bad, and that would cost me alot more moneyby having to remove all 4 tires to locate the bad TPMS.
2. If one of the TPMS decided to go bad in the PVC pipe, All i have to do is check the pressure to make sure its ok. If thats not the problem, I would then remove one by one to figure out which one is going bad. This is made simple by using threaded pvd pipe and threaded caps. Warning, relieve your pressure before unscrewing the caps. Or you could have install each sensor in a seperate pipe with valve..That means you would have 4 pieces of pipe in your car, lol..becarefull if the cops pulled you over and searched your car, they might think your a pipe bomber. LOL

The sensors require centrifugal force to be woken up out of sleep mode.  I would think twice about the pvc tube idea.  The sensors go into a sleep mode when the cars off/not moving for a while to save battery life.  This is according to All Data on resetting and recalibrating the sensors.

Its not hard to find a bad sensor if you go to a shop that has the tool.
We have one, it shows psi, temp, brand, and part # of the sensor in a flash.  I have yet to try it on a new mustang or ford vehicle with the strap style sensors tho.

Hey Stoenr, If thats statement is true, when you start your car in Park, you should get a sensor malfunction warning, becuase the car at that point is not moving...explain

Because the SJB knows this?
Im just reading from the guide.
A signal is sent from the sensors every 60 seconds once the car has exceeded 20 mph.  Maybe it goes off of the VSS.  I really don't know.

I have my sensors placed in a pvc pipe and im not getting any tpms malfuntions or low tire pressure indication on my display.........Also when my wheels was balanced, they used less weights to get it balanced becuase of the absence of the heavy tpms sensors..........Im happy I didnt intall them, becuase if one went bad, I would have to pay to remove each tire just to find out which is going bad,,,,,,Also you cant identify which tire needs air, or how much pressure you got in the tires, I can do the job my self with a pressure guage........When they upgrade the sensors to be more smarter, then I will think about installing them

Thanks for the info!  I agree, smart sensors would be better.  They are actually smart and know the temp, and psi.  And the computer knows the locations.  Ford just didnt implement it.

sidethought,  the place thats going check for a bad sensor would  most likely have the tpms tool and could find the bad sensor in about 2 minutes tops.  When you check each sensor with the tool it gives a readout of its temp, psi, and part # on most tools.
