I'll condense this information into my blog in a few days so that people don't have to read this gigantic thread to learn to do this.

Just did this mod tonight.  Let me tell ya folks, if you don't have great eyes, don't even ATTEMPT this mod.  I do happen to have 20/20 vision and it was super tedious.  I had some time to kill and thought what the heck, at least I'll get to take apart my drive by wire system and see what it entails.

The pictures don't even do justice to how small these little brushes are.  You would actually need a dedicated workbench, jewelers tools and a jewelers eyeglass to do it correctly.  I ended up just holding the little spring clips and running my finger briskly across each brush to flatten it out.

Does it make a difference??  Yes!!! it does.  Heel/toe shifting quickly you can really tell a difference.  I thought I was used to that dead spot and had acclimated myself to it, but no.  It does make the diff, ever so small but noticable.  Great, cheap mod.

I didn't read all 2x pages, but I was thinking. If you bend something to make it
reach farther (which is what was done to reach the dead spot) How can it
possibly hit WOT (since it was bent away from WOT position) If the brushes
travel the same distance when going from idle to WOT, lets say it travels an inch,
and the starting point is altered by bending the brushes to start/contact 1/4 inch early,
then shouldn't the stopping point (wot) also be 1/4 inch early, so it wouldn't actually
be able to reach the full wot position? I think you know what I mean...

I think you have a couple things backwards. The drawings in this post should help:

http://www.mustangforums.com/fb.asp?m=3804169

I think it's actually when the dead spot off idle exists that there's some remote possibility of WOT not being registered.

Well I was so excited to do this!  I went to my car and what do you know there is no lag on mine.  I barely tap it with a toe and off it goes.

So I guess I got lucky and I have one with the correct distance straight from the factory!

THANK YOU! made the mod, touch the gas, and theres the great throttle response, this is a very easy modification and it only takes minutes, and well worth the time, hated that annoying hesitation..........

This may help some people that don't want to mess with the tiny wires.
I decided to fix the dead space on my 07 GT throttle since I had about 3/8 inch of travel with no engine response.
I followed Tube's advice and took the pedal assembly out and removed the 5 torx screws when I noticed the cover that holds the circuit board has slots where the screws go through it. This allows quit a bit of travel. If you push the cover forward (at the top where the plug is) as far as it will go and tighten the 5 screws, you accomplish the same thing as bending the brushes to reach farther along the board.
I tried this on my Mustang and now it has no dead space. If you need more travel you could easily open the slots a little further.

I also want to thank Tube for finding and posting the fix for this problem otherwise I would have had no idea where to look to fix this. Hope this helps some others. BTW the car is much smoother shifting now.

It'd be great if someone sold a revised throttle assembly instead of more gawdy bolt-on exterior mods to rice out the Mustang.

Ok couple of questions.

What do I do to test to see if I have this problem?
What will I see if I have this problem?

I have had a problem in the past when I punch it the car waits a sec before it kicks in.
This only happens with the Traction control on and not when it is off.
Is this the problem described?

Also. I have an 06 model so I am assuming I have the rev 4.
I have not seen many people with 06''s chime in on this and say
if they have the same problem.... or if they just tried it and got results from it.
Can someone with an 06 chime in on this?

Thanks... and great write up!!!

This is for "dead pedal space" NOT Throttle lag.

Throttle lag = punch it...delay..car goes

dead pedal = let car idle....put foot on gas pedal and slowly press down. How far do you have to push the pedal
before the rpms go up?

Many here have about a 1/4 -1/2 inch of dead pedal or "slack" in the pedal before the rpms go up. You can
even get down there and test it with your hand to get a better feel.
