Alright, thanks guys. I just got back from work, I'll go out and take a pic of the engine now.

@ RyansQuick6 ~ Ya, an older guy owned it. I'm really trying to get the seals changed, but I'd be having to ask my mom and/or Step-dad for most of the money. Since it'll likely cost about $2000. But I love this car and I definitely want to keep adding on to this car. But I can't really do anything until the stock engine is running like it should.

Very simple......................LOOK AT THE MOTHER Fing ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your engine looks like this, you have a V8.




If it looks "similar" to this, you have a V6.

Yeah, but hell a friend of mine bought one as a commuter car, the thing was absolutely spotless and he loves it. He also has an F250 on 40's and used to have a Cobra.

I'd recommend running to Lowe's and getting a garden sprayer, the little jugs that you pump to pressurize with a spray hose on it, and a gallon of simple green and get that engine cleaned up. Just don't use high pressure to clean it, let water run out of the hose normally to rinse off the soap.

What seals are leaking? Some of them are relatively easy to change even for the least experienced individual. Get yourself a Haynes/Chilton's manual and start reading up on what it would take to do the needed repairs. $20 on a manual and $150 on a Craftsman tool set and you can start really saving money down the line.

The single valve cover sitting directly over the engine was a dead give away. Remember, a V6 is just that, a V and has two valve covers, two headers, pretty much two everything. The I4 is a straight engine with everything bolted to either a bracket bolted to the engine, or the engine itself, that's your car.

I'm not actually sure. Just the place we took it to to get the water pump fixed said that and I quote "A bunch of the seals are really old and worn out". So I'm not actually sure. But I'll talk to my step-dad about buying that manual, he's runs a restoration business(houses) and was a carpenter before that, I think, so has no shortage of tools lying around. I'm not sure how to go about finding out which seals are worn out. But yes, this will be my daily driver for a awhile. For sure for my senior year and then through college. You've been a major help, RyansQuick6. I might pm you if I get anymore questions if that's alright.

Also, if and I mean "IF" you want to do more to that engine once everything is fixed and restored, you should really look into an SVO Turbocharger, you could probably get a used rebuilt one for so cheap it's not even funny. Google SVO Mustang, you'll learn more about the difference in the 5.0 GT and the 2.8L GT Turbo. In short, this Turbo will take your car from slow as balls to modestly respectful, with a few supporting mods you could actually have something to brag about, but if it's drivability and MPG you want, the Turbo won't hurt you as long as you keep your foot out of the engine bay as turbos don't spool (eat more gas) until around 2000-3000 RPMs, depending on the application.

i admit i dont know everything about cars and i dont claim to, but how do you not know what kind of engine you have in your car? hell ive even seen the DUMBEST of blondes that cant even pump their own gas tell me they have a v8! i mean how can you make it that far in life without knowing what a v8 sounds like? i mean honestly! it sounds very different from a v6 or i4!

I'm 16 man. It's my first car. I popped the hood and I couldn't tell what the hell was going on in there. The blondes no because when you buy a car, it usually says somewhere what the car has. That or there's a badge on it that says "V8". I got mine from an older guy when he died and his wife didn't know what it was.

I admit the question was a little "dee dee dee," but I guess we would have to look at it from a different point of view.
I mean if some reptile "enthusiast" wanted you to tell him if a lizard he had was a male or a female I assume a lot of people would have trouble with it, even if they could "pop the hood" and look at it.
He came onto a car forum because either he wants to learn, or is an enthusiast like most of us, so when someone asks such a simple question to a bunch of "experts," and I use that very lightly, we can see it as being borderline retarded, ... understand?

I honestly just didn't really think to ask anybody. I mean I live with my mom, so she wouldn't know. I see my step-dad a fair bit but it never occurred to me until today that my car may not have been a V6 or V8. He wasn't around since him and my mom do not live in the same house yet. So I simply hopped online and made a topic. Figuring it couldn't hurt and that what the forums was here for.

Serriously guys, not everybody knows engines, go to any freeking car dealer, and I gurantee you'll find at least one idiot that works there that can't tell the difference between a V2 hog engine, and a V8. Not every body is knowledgable about everything. When I was 16 I didn't know jack about cars, and probably couldn't tell the difference in engines, all I cared about was eating, sleeping, passing class, and that all so great thing, putang. In other words, I really didn't start learning about cars till I was 19 (one into having my first car), and I really didn't become knowledgable until semi recently, and I still have a long ways to go, point is, you learn as you go.

Best way to learn is to sample from all the forums on this site, you don't have to reply, just go in and read a little. This is also a good way to learn about parts and how they work. An even better way is to go to massivly large websites like www.mustangsunlimited.com, www.jegsperformance.com, www.summitracing.com, www.50resto.com as well as a few others, and browse through their site reading about parts and what they do, then you can come on here and ask the proper question to learn more about them.
