....an article in the Orange County newspaper this morning. The scan quality was terrible of the newspaper and I couldn't find it online so I retyped it in word format:
Irvine firm accused of illegally modifying cars
Automaker pays settlement without admitting wrongdoing.
An Irvine auto manufacturer has agreed to pay $700,000 after being accused by state air-quality officials of making illegal modifications to car engines to boost their performance.
Saleen, Inc., agreed to the settlement of an administrative action by the state Air Resources Board that might otherwise have led to a lawsuit. But company officials did not admit wrongdoing, said Saleen’s attorney, Jock Marlo.
The state board accused the company of modifying new cars in 2004 and 2005 to increase the cars’ performance, some by using nitrous oxide.
The modified cars were no longer certified by the state, but were sold for use or registration within the state anyway, the Air Resources Board contended.
The company modified 127 cars, 38 of which are being recalled, Air Resources Board officials said.

That must have been customer cars because other then the Saleen Focus offered with N2O hook up I don't remember any S281's being sold with that "upgrade"?

Nice job scanning the newspaper article with such clarity, complete with date/time stamp. If I ever kidnap Steve in an attempt to secure an S7 in berylium paint, I'll know who to call for the money shot of the victim holding today's Orange County Register...

....The N20 version of the Saleen Focus had the NOS system installed. However, it wasn't smog or carb legal so Saleen, to get around the system, offered it installed but with an empty bottle. Futhermore, if you filled the bottle, you voided the warranty. Yet another way the old Saleen Inc would attempt to get around the system.....

A Mustang with a body kit that can't beat SRT-4's is pretty lame too.

The system was not operative. It's the equivalent to an aftermarkt wing or SALEEN windshield banner that blocks your view that's illegal in your state.
