Greetings, I'm an F-body owner so I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to Mustangs.  I'm looking for some advice and opinions on an '84 SVO Mustang my son is looking at.  First off, in addition to the regular issues of older, high-mileage cars, are there any particular things to look for with this particular powertrain?  The vehicle has the following mods - 88 Turbo coupe computer, 35# injectors, T3/T4 hybrid Garrett turbo, 190LPH Ford Racing fuel pump, Taurus electric fan, ported E6 exhaust manifold.  If this sounds like a recipe for disaster please let me know; any and all opinions, comments, suggestions, and even movie recommendations are appreciated.

Peace.

Sounds good to me.

It is an older car so check for rust under the inside of  the doors and over the rear tires. The batteries are also known to cause rust underneath of them and even onto the frame rail. Grab the vin number and make sure it is an svo. It should say 28t in the middle of the vin. Pull off the hose going into the turbo and try and move the shaft up and down as well as in and out. It is normal to have a small amount of play up and down but if it has much or in and out play then the turbo could be wearing out and that should be taken into account.

For value make sure the car has the right shifter handle and steering wheel. Most likely will have a double spoiler.  Get all of the stock parts you can as the car is worth more stock then it is with a few mods.

The rear spats on the 84 SVO's seem to be prone to rotting, and sometimes the wiring can act up.  It may have been replaced already, but the fan sensors have been known to catch fire.  As plazma said, make sure all SVO specific parts are included as they are getting tougher to find in good shape.

It sounds like a nice car, but just a word of caution.  Unless you are familiar with turbocharged vehicles, the powerband takes some getting used to.  It's not linear, it kicks in pretty hard when the boost starts to hit.  This can be problematic to inexperienced drivers in adverse conditions such as rain and when mixed with corners.  At least you won't have to worry about snow.

Check out The Bourne Ultimatum.  It goes with the series pretty well.

Thanks for the information.  We went and checked the vehicle out but it was a little too rough for us, needed some paint, interior kind of thrashed.  It ran pretty strong, and the handling was quite good.  I can see why these cars have a following.
