by christmas time im going to be purchsing a s/c of some sort. i had previously been looking at the procharger system. but i had a coupleQ's on the xcharger. how much h/p are you looking at with a stock automatic, how much would it go up if i got a tune from doug at b@m@ and what is the most powerful set up regarding the unit itself, and pulleys?

My car is a manual tranny and I dynoed at 250rwp/ 275rwtq and I think that was low personally. Doug does all the tunes for the X, so I don't think that would make any difference. I run the Cal-spec model but the hi-po model probably puts out an easy 20 rwhp more. There are also pulley options available that will increase your boost. Lastly, there is a water/meth set up offered by Doug that adds addtional HP, though I'm not sure as to the exact numbers. Great system, pretty easy install. No problems and I've had it  for about 8 months.

those #'s do seem slightly low.  Im assuming that's with a 3.0 pulley and a mail-order tune and not a dynotune?  Is this on a dynojet?

Hi all, I just have a question maybe someone can answer. I work for a Ford dealership and recently purchased a 2005 Mustang Convertible 4.0L, I had a chance to drive the 07 Mustang GT and was really impressed with the horse power and might be trading mine in. I was wondering after I install the JBA headers and dual exhaust next week if I install the X-charger will it "Walk" a Mustang GT? Will it be comparible to the Mustang 4.6L power house. Thanks, Matt

Thanks for the info. Well at least it will hang in there; I didn't think it would walk a GT. But thats good to know. I guess I'll have to look into Fords "D" plan and just buy the GT; then buy the whipple, my Ford dealer said they can add it into financing so I'm leaning in that direction. I'm ordering the Cervini kit for my convertible has anyone used thier products? My body shop wants to much $$ to install it so I may just have to have them paint; (use the old driveway to install everything, ugh!) I've installed (2- whipples in my day so I'm sure a good day and a 1/2 should "get her done! Well any advise would be useful, thanks!

Whens the IC for the X coming out?  Will the IC be able to be installed on the X's already out without the IC?

i woke up too late on sunday morning! i wantesd to see pat's dyno run :(

with the hipo no tuner being 3995 thats only 300 bucks more than the cali... if i can save 3600 bucks i can save 4000.

I'm in cali but I'm wondering if i got the hipo, could i pull off all the hipoishness when it came smog check time? to pass the test then throw it all back in? i hear the hipo is just a pulley, intake and tune difference.

I just put the Hi-po kit on mine, and yes you could replace it with the stock air box in about 30 minutes. I highly recommend the hi-po kit, I gained over 30 hp (with a tune also) and 25 pounds of torque. It's like a new engine, you wouldn't even believe the difference.

The X Charger sounds like a good choice for me too. Just looking for some money. I had a couple of questions... First I know the intercooler will be coming soon. The tune I'd get with the intercooler would be different from the non cooled version right? So should I wait and avoid having to retune? Also would the X benefit from a larger throtle body? Finally will it be possible to go with a smaller pulley and increase boost since it will be intercooled?

Ok. So I have been looking around a bit, and I couldn't seem to awnsers my questions due to the tuner........ So please help me here... The tuner you recieve with the kit is pre loaded with settings I understand for the x charger.. could I not use say a superchip flashpaq tuner on it? and the tuner that it comes with does doo all the goodies such as raise top speed and and change shifts or what does it do exactly? I think thats what im trying to get at here???

First off, there is a group buy at another forum on the XCharger... so check that out.  YOu can save like $400 over list if they get enough buyers.

You can run the same tune after the intercooler is installed, if the tune is written correctly.  The intercooler will keep the air cooler, so you won't get up to the temps where timing starts to get PULLED because the inlet air temps are too high.  The way the X is now, you will likely get into the zone where timing is pulled when ambient temps are 60 degree and above.  With the IC, the timing will likely never be pulled.

You can get tunes from other tuners as well.  I run a tune from VMP, and it works great.  Justin will actuallly give you a starter tune, and then you collect data with your XCAL, and he readjusts the tune.  If you have a wideband installed, then you can record key A/F data and he can tweak the max out of your tune.  I know VMP's tune will allow you to install the intercooler or water injection kit and will adapt.

THe tunes from either Bama or VMP will raise speed limit (although with stock driveshaft you should not be going over 100 for long), GREATLY improve the shifting and give you better throttle response.  The tune has all the fixes a regular performance tune has, plus additions to handle the supercharger.

And remember, the X works great even without an intercooler, especially if you are looking for street performance vs. a top speed dragster (where you should probably go turbo or centri).

Many combinations with the X.... Cali, HiPo with 3.0 pulley, HiPo with 2.8 pulley, add water injection to the mix.

If you just look at the boost, 6-7 PSI should get you 40% more horsepower, but X inlets temps go up a bit, so figure 30% more horsepower, or 65 or so RWHP.  I think this corresponds to what many people have seen with the 3.0 pulley, and put you in the 250-260 RWHP range.  This corresponds to probably 290 at the crank or a little more, so essentially GT type HP.

Torque goes up less, maybe 40 lb-ft.  BUT... and this is SUPER KEY, instead of waiting till 4500 RPM to max torque, the torque curve jumps to a near max value at 2000-2500 RPM.  This means what you FEEL is significantly better than what you would think you would get from 60HP/40lb-ft increase.  You are literally jammed back in your seat when you take off from a stop, and when cruising around, there is a lot of available UMPPHHH in the very typical 2000-3500 RPM range.  This makes the XCharger a great option if you are looking for streetablility.

Having said all that, if you go 2.8 pulley you probably get to 280+ RWHP, and if you add water injection you will approach 300 RWHP.  Both these numbers are higher than a GT.  Many people who installed the X have other mods, like short or long tubes, better exhaust, etc, so their base V6 might have been approaching 200 RWHP.   I suspect these folks will get to 265-270 RWHP with the 3.0 XCharger.

Anyone see the Autoblog.com article about the Terlingua Mustang.
It was featured at SEMA this year and partnered with Shelby.

Rather than focus all the attention on the GT, the base V6 gets some lovin' from the Terlingua package. $7,995 buys you handling and braking upgrades as well as a supercharger that helps the V6 churn out 375 hp.

I want to buy that supercharger kit from Ford/Shelby for my '07.

I downloaded the x-charger calif spec installation manual pdf file from explorerexpress.com just so I could see how the installation goes. I was disturbed when i saw that it clearly reads on the first page that 'this kit has not been exempt by the CARB. It is not legal for sale or use in any area with California type emissions laws.'  If the cali spec is not exempt then why even sell it in California if it's illegal, why not just sell the hipo version.  Can anyone chime in on this, I thought that the Cali Spec was exempt and I really want the x-charger but I live in California.  Can someone please let me know what's going on with this.  I've got my Christmas money and I wanted the Cali spec but after seeing the pdf file...I don't know...I'm now considering procharger, vortech...etc. Please help.
