I'm also very much interested in purchasing the X-Charger for my Pony.  From what all I've read of the X-Charger I really really love it, it sounds like a perfect match for my application...daily driver who wants power hp/tq on demand with solid reliabilty.  My only concern is that I live in Southern California and I need to be street legal, don't get me wrong I would drive around in California with the kit if I wasn't such a speed freak.  I've been stopped many tiimes for speeding and the cops always make a big deal of it, so.....getting the Carb approval is very important for me and for passing emissions.   If the California Special kit was ready with the Carb approval....I would be on the X-Charger group buy but I'm not willing to risk if Explorer Express can't get the Carb approval.  I really hope they do soon because my second option for F/I was Vortech and they come Carb approved.   I'll wait and give this more time........and I'll hope for the best.

I've been stoped many times for speeding but have only been ticketed once.  But, the majority of those stops....the Officers would check under my hood to see if I was running any illegal set ups.   So as you can see, getting Carb approval for the X is a big plus and I hope it comes thru....not just for my sake but for all Mustang enthusiasts that live in a state with tuff emission laws.

Thanks guys for all the info & experiences you've posted. I'm very interested in getting in on the x-charger group buy, but I would like to see the "43 pages with over 130 color photos" manual for the XS5556M. Can anyone tell me where I can find the PDF? TIA

by christmas time im going to be purchsing a s/c of some sort. i had previously been looking at the procharger system. but i had a coupleQ's on the xcharger. how much h/p are you looking at with a stock automatic, how much would it go up if i got a tune from doug at b@m@ and what is the most powerful set up regarding the unit itself, and pulleys?

My car is a manual tranny and I dynoed at 250rwp/ 275rwtq and I think that was low personally. Doug does all the tunes for the X, so I don't think that would make any difference. I run the Cal-spec model but the hi-po model probably puts out an easy 20 rwhp more. There are also pulley options available that will increase your boost. Lastly, there is a water/meth set up offered by Doug that adds addtional HP, though I'm not sure as to the exact numbers. Great system, pretty easy install. No problems and I've had it  for about 8 months.

Yes, of the two pulleys offered, a 2.8 and a 3.0, the former will give you more boost.

do you need to change any internals, headers or exhaust set up for the x-charger?  How about a cai or tuner, are they needed? Sorry if im asking dumb questions.

UMTerp2010:  You only "need" to have a GOOD tune.

Aside from that... unless you plan on having someone develop a tune locally, you'll want to buy a tuner.

A CAI setup comes with the X-Charger kit.

You don't NEED to change anything about the exhaust, though you'll want to sooner or later.  Some guys are running single exhaust, some duals, some shorty headers, and some long-tube headers... all with variations of cats, no cats, resonators, less-restrictive mufflers, et cetera.

The stock pistons are strong enough AS LONG AS YOU GET A GOOD TUNE.  Where people have had problems, N/A or F/I, have been when they were "pushing the envelope."  Otherwise, you'll be fine, absolutely fine, with your stock internals.

Don't worry, these weren't dumb questions.

You're welcome.

Yes, that is a good place.  So is the guy at VMP Tuning, and I know there are a few others who have worked with the X-Charger.  Also, if you shop around, you'll be able to find people who can give you a custom tune.  I have found a guy locally (a couple of hours or so from me) who has experience with this type of blower and has a good reputation.  I have one more power adder to put on, then I'm going to have this guy do a custom tune for me.  He works with SCT tuners (I found out some people only work on SCTs or Diablos but NOT both... in some cases).  If/when you decide to have a custom tune done, presuming you'll want the tune loaded on your tuner, make sure the person doing the work handles the brand of tuner you bought.

I have been reading this thread for 2 weeks now and I am also interested of buying a supercharger.I am estimating that I will be spending around $6000 for this charger. Question  do you guys think that for the money that I am going to spend to get close to 300HP, is it better to buy or trade-in for a GT? I know that I will be losing mopney but for the price difference I will get 300HP w/o voiding the warranty, getting a dual, changing the pulley or header just to get close to 300HP? I just want you opinion on financial advantage on buying a charger vs trading-in for a GT.

Well, the X will cost you a little more than half of that amount. With the Wet-X (water/methanol) you spend around another $600 and will have well over 300 rwhp. In the end it comes down to what you want. Yes, you can make your V6 faster than a stock GT. Financially you will likely spend any money you saved buying a V6 to do this. The main bonus is that you have a unique, built car rather than soemthing that everyone else has. Also, your V6 is lighter than a GT, so 300+ RWHP will be far faster than even lightly modded GT's.

The gas mileage is nice, too.  One "X-Man" got 30 MPG highway on a roadtrip he took a few months back.  This is even mentioned on the Explorer Express website (decent mileage, while being fast at the track).  Show me a Mustang GT that, modded or not, gets 30 MPG on the highway.

This isn't a "GT bash," but it's a fact that there are a lot of advantages the V6 has that the V8 can never match, but there are only a few examples of the converse that are true... and most, if not all, of those can be overcome by a sufficiently modded V6.

Also, from Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords:

"As for the GT, it gets the new 4.6-liter, three-valve-per-cylinder SOHC V-8. The aluminum short-block was pirated wholesale from the'03-04 Mach 1 Mustang. That means cracked powdered metal connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons. Bore and stroke is unchanged."

The rods in the 4.0 engine from Cologne, Germany, are forged.

You can only do so much to a GT engine before you quickly reach the point where you have to start changing internals.  Just food for thought.

were those numbers on a dynojet?  Those do seem somewhat low.  Was that with a dynotune or a mail-order tune?
