Default Different tire sizes on 2001 Cobra

When I bought my Mustang Cobra it has two different sets of tires on it, 275/35/ZR18 on the rears and 255/40ZR17 on the fronts. Does this have any negative effects on the car as in gas mileage, handling, steering, etc.Should I switch them both to17 or 18 so that they are even. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
