Default Would you put a carbon fiber hood on a black GT???

Strictly an OEM style hood. No stupid ricer crap. I mean as strictly a weight saving factor and of course because carbon fiber is bad a**.

I love carbon fiber as a material. I use it in a lot of the tactical gear I have. Mostly in custom knives. But I love the look of it.

What I don`t like is the way it`s been bastardized by the ricer crowd. It was initially intended as a super strong and super light weight alternative to steel and aluminum in racing applications. A carbon fiber OEM style hood would be a great way to remove some weight from the front of a GT and wouldn`t look too out of place on a black car. IMO that is.

What do you guys think?

Eric

Iwas under the impression that the aluminum hood was almost as light as the carbon fiber. Thus a swap would be primarily for looks...

I thought carbon fiber was lighter but ? can anyone else chime in on this one. Carbon fiber is not just for ricers either!

aluminium and CF are close in weights but CF is way way stronger when at the same weight. plus it looks way better.

Yes it is lighter. When I changed my hood over I could tell a difference(not much but some)
But I do have a cowl hood,if it was a oem style carbon fiber hoodit would probably
be more noticeable.

Well, of course. But that would defeat the whole visual aspect of carbon fiber. I know the weight saving to strength ratio is what`s important, but in a street car the look of a nice carbon fiber piece cannot be under estimated.

Carbon fiber has such an intrigueing look. It`s easy to catch yourself just looking at a nicely done piece. One of my knives usesbead blasted carbon fiber with titaneum for the handle scales. It looks like a piece of art. Some times I take it out just to look at it. And I`ve had it for about five years, so it`s not like it`s new to me.

I`m seriously considering a carbon fiber OEM type hood for my GT. One of the few cosmetic mods I`m considering. The cars look so good in stock form. Things like the hood or lowering the car are just icing on the cake.

Do you guys know who makes the most solid, high qualitycarbon fiber hoods? I want something that I can use the factory hinges and latch mechinism with. I`ll probably use an after market strut system to get the prop rod out of the way.

What kind of hood is that? Looks awesome, do you have anymore shoots of it?

Would I?
No.
Unless I painted it.
I'm so bored by the CF look.
If I did it , it would be for weight only, not for looks.

But that's me.
And you asked.

+1 on that...personally I'd have to shoot ot a flat black, I'm not into the look. If you look at the cost vs. practicality (unless your road racing or dragging every week) I think the money could be spent elsewhere.
