Default Using factory shift knob on a Hurst shifter

I installed the Hurst shifter on my car this weekend and love the improved shifting. I was wondering if you can use the factory knob on the hurst stick, and if not where I can get the correct sized shift lever that would work with it. The classic white knob look is great but the noise transmitted through it is a bit too much and I would like to keep a more factory looking appearance. Thanks!

i think the thread pattern is exactly the same, but the stick is longer so thats where your problem may be, but i think even if that doesnt work you may want to try using the stock shift handle in lieu of the chrome plated hurst one

if that works, which it should, would you be willing to sell your hurst stick and ball?

I like the way you think nonstopred, but unfortunately the stock handle is one piece all the way down to the shift rod, there is no way to remove it and reuse it without somewelding. I will bekeeping theHurst handle and ball butif Hurst sells a chrome handle with the proper length to reuse the factory knob and not increase theshiftthrowthan Iwould be willing to sellit to you.

Well I got around to checking last night and the factory knob will not work, the thread size is too big. I know that Ford Racing sells a Hurst shifter for the GT that uses the factory knob, so Hurst must make a compatible lever. Unfortunately Hurst own website is damn near useless since B&M bought them out. (Nothing against B&M, I used their auto shifters in the past and they are great). Anyone else have any ideas as too how someone can get the part from the Ford Racing shifter?

Hurst makes two shifters for the GT. One has a stick that's non-replacable with the metric standard threads for the factory knob, and one with the chrome removable stick and 3/8"-16 threads.

They only make the chrome stick version for the 4.0

If the problem is noise, I'm not sure how changing the white knob will change that. You can place some insulation (dynamat) or something in the area between the leather boot and the lower boot area to deaden it possibly. My .02 worth.

The white knob that comes with the shifter is hollow plastic, perfect for transmitting noise. The factory knob is solid plastic, much more substantial feeling than the white knob. Probably will deaden the noise better. I am getting the FRPP shifter stick from Hurst tomorrow in the mail, so I will let everyone know if there is a difference once I install it.

Ok I got in the new shifter stick, it fits the factory knob perfectly. Not as quiet as the factory shifter, but def. quieter than with the white Hurst knob. FYI, the part number for the shifter stick is #2380050.
