Default Pony Pkg Spoiler - Lesson Learned

I wish I could say it was the voice of reason, a message from a long-passed relative, or something cool like that, but it wasn't. I just didn't like the spoiler that came with my Pony Package. The GT spoiler reminded me of the old Boss Mustangs, and I decided to replace the Pony spoiler with one of those.

With new spoiler in hand, the time for pulling offthe Pony spoiler arrived. After struggling with what seemed like 5 miles of double-sided tape, I finally got the old spoiler off. I put a lot of elbow grease into getting that thing off, and I was afraid of how much paint would come off. Luckily, the paint looks as if there was never an inch of double-sided tape, much less 5 miles.

What I didn't expect, however, was marks from the old spoiler - where the Pony spoiler curves down over the rear corner of the trunk lid. When they painted the Pony spoiler, they left small bubbles of paint on both rear corners, which wore down the paint on the trunk all the way to the primer.

This was with a thousand or so miles on the car, and I have no doubt that it would've wore down to metal in another couple thousand miles. I wasn't happy with the marks left on my trunk, but am relieved that there won't be rust spots peaking out from underneath the spoilerbefore the car's first birthday.

Just a lesson I wanted to pass along to anyone with the Pony Package spoiler: Take a peak under the corners and make sure it's not rubbing on your trunk lid.

Attached isa picture from the lower left corner, which was the worst.

Ouch.

I am replacing my PP spoiler in the near future and I will be very... disapointed if I have a similar problem. Running out to check the car now.

Yep, this happened to my car with the regular v6 spoiler.

The paint is rubbed off at both corners where the spoiler has flexed against it.

What do you mean? Isn't that pic showing the back of your car, the same flat side with the brake lights and everything? How did the spoiler (sitting on top of the trunk lid) rub the back of the trunk lid?

Maybe they're talking about the 07 spoilers... they are different.

That looks like the one. The newer Pony Pkg spoiler has a lip that goes over the back of the trunk lid, similar to a ducktail spoiler.

I tried to convince the Ford dealer that this should be covered under warranty, but they wouldn't do anything about it. Their "fix" was to sell me a bottle of touch-up paint.

after reading this post i looked at my spoiler, and i have the same problem. My manager used to be a service manager at a car lot. He said they should cover it under warrenty this is tech. a defect with the part and as long as the warrenty is there why not. This could lead to rust and problems in the future. I for sure wouldn't of looked there only if i would change my spoiler. Hopefully i will have luck with my dealership here in oregon.

I can't stand that spoiler. I do hope the dealership fixes it for you, though. It's a defect and should be covered by your warranty.
