View Full Version : Project no hands **56K Warning Now**
sleeper_inc 08-17-2007, 01:50 PM Since my "the engine baby" thread some who got deleted:eek::eek::eek::eek:
This is the new home for my project (lol)
Anyways since most of you have seen the engine and all that lovely stuff I wont post more pictures of it unless something to it is done
Unless you still want pictures than I'll post them up.
Anyways....
I mounted my boost/vacuum gauge the other day out of bordom and the fact I have not done anything lately;)
Here are the pictures of it. It lights up so many colors:D:D:D:D:D
I'll try and get a picture of it tonight;)

(No, the 15 isn't red)
Stang2.3 08-17-2007, 01:53 PM Why is your Boost Gauge at your Knees? Its not in easy sight is it?[&o]
sleeper_inc 08-17-2007, 01:58 PM Its easy for me to see, but then again my head almost tuches my roof[:@] Its tilted towards me so its easier to see and who will always be looking at it? I'm just using it till I get a center heat mount (plus this cost me nothing to mount it there)
Stang2.3 08-17-2007, 02:33 PM Oh Ok I Gets it.... was just a weird place.... i'm used to Pillar mounts (tuner:eek:)
sleeper_inc 08-17-2007, 03:48 PM I want it to be a sleeper so I'm trying to hide the gauges from others but I can still see them (next will be in the two front heater vents:D)
Stang2.3 08-17-2007, 04:12 PM Looks Really Nice like that, I'll give it that... i still like the Pillar or the Dash though.
leveliv 08-17-2007, 06:09 PM project "no hands" ? ? ? why that name?
but yeha the gauge looks pretty good.
mg man 75 08-17-2007, 06:29 PM Also pillar mount. Would like find digital pressure gauge and mount in area below the speedomete

project "no hands" ? ? ? why that name?
but yeha the gauge looks pretty good.
Why? Well necause I was doing yard work today and I though hmmm... Maybe I'll use no hands to start the car (lmao, so much fun for me:D) so thats its name[8D]
Stang2.3 08-18-2007, 05:24 PM Use No hands to Start your car......[&o]How U Do That?[&o]
sleeper_inc 08-18-2007, 05:33 PM Feet, face, stick;) lmao
I have to move that gauge its to low and it gets covered by the steering spoke so I'll move it when I get time
al_ngl 08-18-2007, 05:38 PM You should put a starter button on the floor somewhere. You could really freak people out. Just don't step on it on accident.
Stang2.3 08-18-2007, 05:55 PM ORIGINAL: al_ngl
You should put a starter button on the floor somewhere.
That Would Be Cool!
sleeper_inc 08-21-2007, 01:06 PM Well I got the E6 today.... Thats where the good news ends.... Its cracked in the same damn spot as my E3[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@] I want my money back:(
Stang2.3 08-21-2007, 03:50 PM Are u Serious??? damn u gots no luck man:eek:
sleeper_inc 08-21-2007, 04:13 PM I sure in hell don't[:@]
I'm going into the city over the weekend so I'll try and weld it then (since I don't have a welder)
Stang2.3 08-21-2007, 04:17 PM U Couldn't weld the E3, U Sure u could even weld the E6??
sleeper_inc 08-21-2007, 05:40 PM I can weld the E3:eek: Its just I though that I would get a modern one that flows better and didn't have a crack and guess what... It had a crack, so I'll get both welded. Port both and either sell the E3 or keep it for a back up
speedjunkie92 08-21-2007, 08:37 PM wow sleeper that gauge is a peice oh s*it
sleeper_inc 08-23-2007, 06:40 PM Wow speed junkie, when was the last time you were here?
Anyways to the people who respect others here are some pictures of my 'hell'
Cracked E3

Cracked E6

2 1/4" crack...[:@][:@][:@][:@]
Oh well. Since I have nothing to do for a little while and I'm getting the E6 welded next month and the E3 brazed next week (I hope) I started to port the E3. Keep in mind its not done yet, I hope to have it finished tonight or tomorrow
Stock E6 (forgot to get before pictures of the E3 so this will do)

mg man 75 08-23-2007, 09:51 PM Bummer on the crack. I had my 1st one welded [brazed]. It was in the old wrecked mustang. I then put it the 89 forgetting that it was welded. Did't take long to remind me. The welding job was free and he told me it would be good just to test things. I know going to hate me. It reminds me I need to go get one in a junkyard that has only one bolt in it. Last time there bought the downpipe and 4 injectors off it for 8 dollars.
sleeper_inc 08-23-2007, 10:12 PM Yeah, I'm going to get it welded (both) and if they don't hold up I have enough money to buy a used bob's log
92lxsleeper 08-24-2007, 02:30 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMsMHvGwb9w&mode=related&search=
you should take this approach sleeper
sleeper_inc 08-24-2007, 02:35 PM The money that I would need is more than I have INTO the car right now, even the car itself
sleeper_inc 08-24-2007, 03:49 PM **** getting the thing fixed. I'm upgrading to a bob's log for $110 CDN:D:D:D:D:D:D I'll see both the ported E3, and E6 (both cracked) for idk $30?? OBO?
Stang2.3 08-24-2007, 03:50 PM Twin Cam Though.... thats gotta be sick!
sleeper_inc 08-24-2007, 03:56 PM Twin cam, gotta cost major $$$$$$
Why?
You need custom pistons and a 1" (maybe 3") chunk of aluminum welded on and then have to get it mechined, then a DIS, custom, custom, custom. Maybe next wint I'll do it:D:D:D:D:D
Stang2.3 08-24-2007, 04:28 PM ORIGINAL: sleeper_inc

esslingers aluminum SVO head is making more power stock than a 16V volvo head swap. It is also a bolt on head[8D][8D]
Stock for stock
esslinger SVO head > 16V Volvo head
Stang2.3 08-24-2007, 06:22 PM You Can't Really call A Different Aluminum Head Stock Can You?
sleeper_inc 08-24-2007, 06:31 PM There is a stock 2.3 aluminum head for sale on some site that I forget. Its a stock head just aluminum
sleeper_inc 09-02-2007, 03:32 PM Ok time for an update...
Unkknown to you guy's and girls I have been having issues with the person who I bought the engine from. He has owed me the VAM, wiring harness and computer for a month and a half. Now I'm taking him to court to get $200 or the parts. I aint going to get rid of this engine and if he thinks I'm going to then he's smoking something way to strong[&:][&:][&:]
Anyways.... I have ordered a 1st gen bob's log for $110, I also found out my parents are going to buy me headlights for my car on my b-day (:D:D:D) I have also wired my fan up to a switch because my sensor almost cought fire a few days ago[&:][&:][&:][:@] oh well though. Its fixed now;)
Anyways here is the link to the bobs log (crack has been welded so no worries) and the headlights my parents are getting me.

leveliv 09-02-2007, 03:42 PM nice goin with Bob's log sleeper...also the headlights too flashy for this cat but not too bad...I was thinking of the silver ones like that for my car...or I might just stay stock..but good goin sleeper...get that f*ckin motor in!!
92lxsleeper 09-02-2007, 03:47 PM lol, those are the same exact lights that i was gonna get.
sleeper_inc 09-02-2007, 03:52 PM Now I just need my car painted.... Christmas present???? lmao
leveliv 09-02-2007, 03:56 PM you should talk to a body shop and tell them if you buy the paint and do the body work all they would have to do is paint it. Im doing that next summer with my Crimson red with Silverish flakes..Im copying macadoo's car I think that's the one. it's gunnah cost me about 400 with paint and the labour. . all I have to do is sand..there isn't much wrong with this body.
sleeper_inc 09-02-2007, 04:01 PM I have to sand everything down on my car with 200, then 220, then 400 and then look for anyplaces that need filler (I know there are at least 4 places)
Then I have to seal the metal so rust doesn't form (nutralize) then prime, then sealer, then paint[&:]
92lxsleeper 09-02-2007, 04:11 PM none of the places around here let you do that, if they paint it, they do the prep work.
leveliv 09-02-2007, 04:19 PM ooh that sucks..thats what I love about such a small town and my cousin is dating the body mans son (the guy who made my car what it is)
al_ngl 09-02-2007, 05:02 PM The reason that they don't let you do the prep work is so you don't blame them if it comes out wrong.
mg man 75 09-02-2007, 05:34 PM On the essinger head there is problems with it. I have read on turboford.net on it. Like I said before if going to another head I would try a single cam volvo head.Per posted on turboford.net flows more than even a modified ford 2.3 and problably the volvo intake and exhaust will work. A major cost saveer point. Altho not as much as a twin cam but should be more streetable and lot less cost. Maybe this winter look into. Know where several volvo cheap with turbo manifold etc.
92lxsleeper 09-02-2007, 07:13 PM Sleeper, post more pics of your turbo build up man!
sleeper_inc 09-02-2007, 08:13 PM Nothing is going on, I've really done nothing but get the IAC to work and wire up my fan. Thats all I have really done[&:]
sleeper_inc 09-03-2007, 07:45 PM Well I'm ordering a LB2 computer and a Large VAM to go with it for $110 (I don't need a trans for a few weeks now lol)
sleeper_inc 09-11-2007, 06:26 PM Well the LB computer and Large VAM fell through (no email back) So I bought a PK1 and small VAM. If anyone has a connecter I want it[8D];)
Also I'm going for my driving test on friday. Wish me luck:D:D:)
92lxsleeper 09-11-2007, 07:28 PM now remember, u cant redline it during the test, or smoke the tires.... do that AFTER you get your license (hell do it in the license examination office parking lot) lol
hellion_79 09-11-2007, 08:19 PM Yeah right after he issues your license just shred those tires:Ddo some big ass donuts in the parking lot and peel em out on the way outta there! Theres nothing they can do after that! lmao
sleeper_inc 09-11-2007, 09:37 PM I'm going to get some hwy video of me hitting some speed:D:D:D

WRONG... Since they just gave you your license, they still have your liscense plate number and registration. They would call the cops on you and take that license right away.
Remember that just because parking lots are "private property" doesn't mean it's your private property.
hellion_79 09-11-2007, 11:08 PM [&o]
924banger 09-11-2007, 11:31 PM But you can go to the nearest Walmart and ram every vehicle there and get away with it:D....Or do donuts, whatever:eek:
hellion_79 09-11-2007, 11:33 PM Oh yeah wal-mart parking lots arnt private!! I mean they let people camp out in walmart parking lots.... lmao
84_GT_5.0 09-11-2007, 11:43 PM i speak from experiance dont drive like an ass or u'll do some community service like an ass, 30hrs. $110 and 2pts. for 84 in a 40...thought i was doin 65 but well it happens

id get the stock head ported, just make sure the porter knows his/her stuff. the esslinger N.A.S.H. head.. iv seen some complains but id probubly go with that before the volvo head unless of course you could cut the cost of the fabrication by doing the work you self if you happen to have the tools and skill. or geting a buddy who has the tools and skill to cut you a break.. vovlo conversion is expencive..

And there was a good straight away on a school zone lmao
mg man 75 09-12-2007, 08:16 PM Notice in other post got rid of egr valve. This how mine turned out. Cut off flange and grinded it out. Threaded the hole. I epoxied a bushing in. My boost gauge is hooked up here. Also picture of escort iac vale. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w224/mgman75/100_5604-50.jpg

sleeper_inc 09-12-2007, 09:28 PM I used a plastic piece off my old intake. I'll see how it holds then if its not working I'll do what you did there MG man
mg man 75 09-12-2007, 09:38 PM Better make one out of metal. If notice iac has cork gasket. The factory gasket would not hold 20psi. when I test my intercooler piping with a test rig. I doubt a plastic piece will hold. If you make any intercooler piping make sure it has ridge at end to hold hoses on. I had mine blow off. Ps I tried the plastic intercooler pipe idea on internet. Blew it off several times and removed it. But I tell you what it is good ford. It makes a good cheap prototype to get welder to make out of metal .
sleeper_inc 09-13-2007, 08:22 AM It does make a good prototype. I put the EGR valve back on overtop of it and used RVT to seal it so I don't think it will blow off;)
sleeper_inc 09-14-2007, 10:11 PM Well here is what I did today (yes I did all this today from 3:30pm-8:00pm)

Mthd11 09-15-2007, 02:21 AM what ecu do you have sleeper, it seems like were going to be running the same numbers... till im intercooled;)
we have basically same everything, thats pretty ironic.. looks like mine lol
hellion_79 09-15-2007, 04:24 AM I thought you were runnin a SVO intercooler sleep
sleeper_inc 09-15-2007, 09:41 PM hellion - No I aint running a intercooler yet. I need more money or a good birthday present:D
Mthd11 - I bought a PK and small VAM for now. Later I'm going to buy a J3 chip and run a large VAM (or MAF) and PE fuel and timing maps.
I may not have it intercooled but by next spring it will be;)
sleeper_inc 09-22-2007, 11:34 AM Well I took the crank pully off last night. Damn was it a PITA!!!! (No air compresser so no impact wrench) Had to use a crow bar and a 5ft. pole to get the bolt off and then a puller to get the crank pully off[&:]
Still waiting for the computer and VAM so it looks like the swap wont be done this weekend[&o]
Also I would like to thank MG man for donating a VAM connector to the cause:)
(If you need any parts mg man, let me know)
92lxsleeper 09-22-2007, 11:50 AM make sure u put some lock washers (crush washers) on the turbo-to-manifold bolts, or else they will come loose
sleeper_inc 09-22-2007, 01:56 PM Some one told me to use high temp lock tight[&:] I'll have to take a look at that
92lxsleeper 09-22-2007, 02:20 PM no, u wanna use anti seize for the nuts, along with lock washers. you will prolly end up getting a bigger turbo in the future and your gonna want to get it off without damaging the studs or bolts, or flange or whatever.
sleeper_inc 09-25-2007, 06:24 PM I got my computer and VAM today. Here are some pictures for you guys

92lxsleeper 09-25-2007, 06:31 PM now swap it over bitch*
hellion_79 09-25-2007, 06:32 PM Is that what MG man gave to you
sleeper_inc 09-25-2007, 06:35 PM No, g-man over on turboford gave that to me (or i should say I bought it from him)
Mg man is sending me the connector
sleeper_inc 09-28-2007, 05:50 PM New info on the project. I can't do it this weekend (my father is to busy to help and there is also no transmissions in the JY[:@]) I'm also waiting for the part mg man sent me:D
But I got my license today. I did it in 9 minutes. She told me to turn around and go back, you have your license:D:D:D:D:D
On my out of the parking lot (after I got my license and all that) I hit a curb and ****ed up my tire (it was bald anyways) So I had to walk half an hour to get a jack (I took the one out of my car because I was cleaning it, and forgot to put it back in[:@])
Anyways my car's rear now has P215/75R14, and holly **** these tires are tall!!!!!!!!! But I'm not getting a b-day presnt anymore because the tires took the headlights budget ($153.76) Oh well. Anyways thats the update, and I'll try and get one good last pull with my car.
sleeper_inc 09-28-2007, 05:58 PM BTW here are my new tires

Shelty 09-28-2007, 09:15 PM man sleeper, you need to get your hands on some 10 holes or some ponys.... lol
looks good, I love following builds..
nothing like a 2.3T to add to the mix;)

Won't those taller tires offset you speedo?
Those are stock hight tires[&:][&:][&:] Stock on the mustang 4 bangers are P195/75R14, I just got wider ones[&:]
Also my speedo was already off, so its corrected a little;):D
92lxsleeper 09-28-2007, 10:49 PM they are a little bit taller sleeper. 195/75/14 215/75/14 take the first number (width in millemeters) multiply it by .75 (75 % profile) the 215's have a little bit taller profile.
hellion_79 09-28-2007, 10:49 PM You have your license???!!!
Go get a video now bro
sleeper_inc 09-28-2007, 10:50 PM Meh, it looks ok, kinda like a dragster:D

sleeper_inc 09-28-2007, 10:53 PM I aint burning these tires.... I just spent to much on them. But I can graavel it:D[8D]
hellion_79 09-28-2007, 10:54 PM You get a video now... no ifs, ands, or buts
sleeper_inc 09-28-2007, 11:09 PM I'll get ittomorrow. Its 9 here and everyone falls asleep [&:]

sleeper_inc 10-03-2007, 09:09 PM Well I guess I should let you guys know whats going on right now. I've had my car up to its limit on flat ground (170KM/H or 100 MPH (roughly)) now that I've said that, I'm off to the junk yard tomorrow to see if I can find a T-5 transmission, pedals, etc for the t-5 swap over. hellion_79 10-03-2007, 09:32 PM I was wonderin where you were today.... lucky mother****er with your license [>:]
sleeper_inc 10-03-2007, 09:38 PM Yeah, I am lucky, I had to help a friend move a car, build a shed, get his truck out of a hole (dumb ass pinned it in sand[&:]) then I had to make sure my car had gas for tomorrows trip;)
Now I'm ready for the engine swap this weekend. I even told my buddy's not to call me since I'll be busy;)
Also I'm done with speed now, I almost got a ticket today because of the speed I was doing[&:][&:][&:]
Anyways I'll get some pictures for you guys if I get a transmission tomorrow:)

Dont worry, I am pretty carful when it comes to speed. I can drive a car, ive came into a few situations that if I didnt know **** I would wrecked the car, like comin around a corner doin 55-65 and this car was pullin at and I had to rip the E-brake and slide around the car...
sleeper_inc 10-04-2007, 08:53 PM Well I went looking for the T-5 today and found.... nothing.... not even one at all the yards I was at (****!!!!!!) I found 2 C3's and 7 A4LD's. Oh well, I'll look again tomorrow and if I can't find one then I guess I'm going to have to grab either the C3 or try and use my A4LD for a few weeks (so I can buy another one)
sleeper_inc 10-05-2007, 10:28 AM New info, might have found a T5 from a 89 mustang. The guy wants $40 for it. Even if it is bad just spend a few hundred on a rebuild and put in a new transmission basicaly
hellion_79 10-05-2007, 11:08 AM Get it
sleeper_inc 10-05-2007, 11:14 AM I'm trying to, I just need is address (he e-mailed me)

mg man 75 10-05-2007, 03:41 PM Sleeper try to get bellhousing ,clutch cable, bellhousing and driveshaft{ if is differant length than yours]. If can get short piece of car side of harness to t-5 to make a patch cord from your wiring to his.
hellion_79 10-05-2007, 03:56 PM Dont you need a different crossmember?
Mthd11 10-05-2007, 04:56 PM no, i had thought i needed a standard crossmember, but when i went to buy it, i found out that i could use the single hump crossmember from my aod and reuse the aod tranny mount.
sleeper_inc 10-05-2007, 06:16 PM I'm going to buy the trans tonight if the guy's around.
All I need are the pedals, drive shaft, clutch cables, and a crossmember (can get that all on sunday when I have the engine in with the A4LD (temp till I get everything))
92lxsleeper 10-06-2007, 12:35 AM you don't need a new crossmember if your using the T-5. its the same as the A4LD isn't it?
sleeper_inc 10-06-2007, 09:26 AM No, the A4LD's is set further back than the T-5's
92lxsleeper 10-06-2007, 10:58 AM gotcha, when r u pullin the motor out of your car?

hellion_79 10-08-2007, 02:18 AM Dude... good job
Thats all I have to say... good ****ing job.
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 09:27 AM Thanks for the kinda words. I have to take my dash out now because I broke the heater core ([:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@])
Oh well, guess I can do that tomorrow and take the bus to school:(
92lxsleeper 10-08-2007, 09:44 AM just bypass the heater for now, run your coolant to the turbo and directly back into the return line. its easy, i had to do it on one of my old trucks one time.
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 09:47 AM You can see I already did that[>:]
I need to replace it ASAP!!!!! winter here get cold[&:]:(
pfs4life 10-08-2007, 10:05 AM yes it does
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 02:32 PM Well it runs:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D not very well yet though:([:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]
I'll try and get some video for you guys once everything is running right...
I'm so excited to get this thing on the road, maybe later tonight or tomorrow after school;)[8D]
hellion_79 10-08-2007, 02:39 PM No first start up video [&:]
hellion_79 10-08-2007, 02:42 PM Wtf??
This post was supposed to go to the stalling thread [&:]
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 04:20 PM I couldn't because the timing was out 180*'s the first time, so heres the 2nd start up video (made the timing 10* woth spout out)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTyGtZYyfWc
leveliv 10-08-2007, 04:39 PM Love the sound..even if it needs to be timed, Nice job man
Mthd11 10-08-2007, 04:47 PM sounds good sleeper, i still have a ton of work [&:]
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 04:51 PM I have put lots of work in this car, and more still is needed. I need to rip the dash apart after I get it running right and replace my heater core. Then I think I might have ****ed the trans up already so.... another one is needed. I also need more parts:)
I love the sound but I'll get a ticket if I don't address that soon so... ;)
hellion_79 10-08-2007, 05:03 PM Wow sleeper, that turbo is loud! Few little things need to be done and it should be running very good. Work on that timing ;)
mg man 75 10-08-2007, 05:07 PM Glad to hear run. Did you do tune up. Remember all Motorcraft parts. Sounds like mine when I had fuel injector bad. To test. Just unplug them one at a time. The one that makes no difference is the bad one. Also make sure no vacumn leaks. Just cap off all vac lines and let idle see if any differences. I assume vac line is off the bap/map sensor.
92lxsleeper 10-08-2007, 05:23 PM u need to hook up the oil psi sending unit
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 06:12 PM I'm getting all the tune up stuff tomorrow, also I'll test my injectors then to
Mthd11 10-08-2007, 07:33 PM That video sounded like your timing was off a few degrees, seems like a easy troubleshooting problem..
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 10:30 PM I got 12 PSI in park.... I should only get 2-3 psi[&:]
I think somethings way off also because I only have 2 PSI of vacume at idle[:@] so either cam timing is off or timing is WAY off
mg man 75 10-08-2007, 10:42 PM I agree should be 2 to 3 psi boost. but I think on right track.
sleeper_inc 10-08-2007, 11:02 PM The guys over on TF say a bad O2 ground, which I think might be it, so I'll wire it in tomorrow (Runs off pin #49), they also say more things, I'll work on the car all day tomorrow (after school I guess lol, maybe I'll get to drive it around the block)
Also since your on MG man, sis the PK1 computer run #30 or #35 injectors?
92lxsleeper 10-08-2007, 11:07 PM hook a seperate vaccuum gauge to the vacuum tree to check your idle vacumm, should be like 18-20 psi vac.
sleeper_inc 10-09-2007, 08:48 AM I'm going to do that after I get some spark plugs (tune up) I snapped 2 in half when I was checking compression last night[&:]
BTW its
#1 - 120
#2 - 122
#3 - 126
#4 - 120
:D:D:D:D
I'll get some video when I get new sparkplugs, fuel pressure gauge (need some fittings first) and have it going;)
mg man 75 10-09-2007, 11:32 AM Remember pin 49 ground to intake of turbo. Do not ground anywhere else. I personally think go other problems. I ran my car for awhile with no 49 wire. Made some difference but not much. Will look up injectors.
92lxsleeper 10-09-2007, 12:56 PM when you finally get the t5 for your car, give the A4LD as much hell as you can, that way we can all see how much abuse these really take.
Shelty 10-09-2007, 02:28 PM sounds good sleeper, hey how did you do that vid/put it on youtube?
I just got a blackjack and wanna get an exhaust clip of my '91.
hey did you do that 140 speedo? cant remember if the 4bangers came with them.
but looks awesome. hope you have fun with her soon;)
btw, one of those gauge pods for the center vents would be sweet. you can put your boost, fuel pressure and oil psi in one of those... I woudnt trust those ford gauges for a hundred bucks
have fun;)

video - hook up camera to computer and upload to youtube
140 speedo - its in Km's not Mph's
92lxsleeper 10-09-2007, 06:45 PM 140 km lol, hey sleeper you need a 300 km/h gauge
sleeper_inc 10-09-2007, 07:07 PM My gauge goes to 180km/h:eek: (110 mph)
If you want I'll go buy 92-93 gauge cluster and have 220 km/h gauges:D
shelty - I'm going to drive nice till I have everything for the t5 swap, then I nutral drop on my trans at 5000 RPM and see if it blows:D
lx - hell's no I don't need one of those right now (makes me want to pin the needle)
92lxsleeper 10-09-2007, 07:35 PM well did u get it tuned up? how's it running...

sleeper_inc 10-09-2007, 11:22 PM ORIGINAL: 92lxsleeper
well did u get it tuned up? how's it running...
Better, found 2 vacuum leaks (boost blow off a vacuum connection)
With new spark plugs, and the ground wire now attached it idles way smoother at 1000 rpm, but it still shock when throttle was held and its missing at 2000RPM+ so my conclusion is BAD INJECTOR!!!!! (****, I don't have this kinda money right now[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@])
Soo... anyone got ideas?
92lxsleeper 10-09-2007, 11:26 PM umm, stick your 2.3 NA injector on it for now, it might work temporarily.... junk yard one off of a 5.0 or a 3.8, or you could always stick the 2.3 NA back into it [8D] and join the slow club once again...
sleeper_inc 10-09-2007, 11:43 PM The 2.3 N/A isn't going back in there[&:][&:][&:] also the injectors off the car wont work (#14 PPH, and high impediance the merkur ones are #35 PPH and Low impediance)
hellion_79 10-10-2007, 12:41 AM How much are injectors? I can get you a B-day present :D
mg man 75 10-10-2007, 07:44 AM What color are your injectors. I still have some have the injectors from when I was small vam somewhere. Maybe able to help.
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 09:03 AM I have brown tops (#35) but I think the PK1 computer might use #30 injectors (IDK)
Hellion they are $60 each from napa
92lxsleeper 10-10-2007, 09:39 AM they might be cheaper at his napa though, cause they are indevidually owned and set their own prices.

I'll call em and see. I live by schucks too and they always have the best prices.
So #35 injector for a 2.3L Turbo motor.
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 06:07 PM Yeah;)
Well my tac is actting funny, maybe its because the battery s really low... anyways I'm going to call around as well and see if I can get all 4 injectors new for $100[8D]
mg man 75 10-10-2007, 06:23 PM What is tac? 58 dollars what I pd for 1. Find used ones I know hard to find. If going maf soon i think you will need to go to LA series computer and bigger injectors. May look to see if can use the bigger ones on your motor till go to LA computer. Hate to see buy new ones and later buy more. Haven't had chance to look see where mine are and what they are.
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 06:37 PM the next injectors I'll buy will be either 65pph or 1000cc injectors (95pph)
I'm going to check them tonight to see how many I need... I can get them for $49 + $10 core charge
hellion_79 10-10-2007, 07:10 PM Damn those ****ers arnt cheap
cheapest one i could find
EDIT:
this one? (http://napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=CRB&PartNumber= 217035&Description=Fuel+Injector+-+Remfd)
pfs4life 10-10-2007, 07:14 PM ebay that ****
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 08:35 PM Well I found out its not the injectors, that leaves only the cam timing, and something wrong with the ignition (maybe VAM/computer as well?)
Mthd11 10-10-2007, 08:42 PM Cam timing if you found its not the injectors, find out , b/c i have a feeling i didnt time my cam properly.. so good luck ill be paying attention
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 09:42 PM Ok, not able to pull codes off the PK1 computer, but I saw oil on my fenders (hood not on right now) I look around and see I have a bad valve cover seal, and a bad cam seal. Guess I'll replace thiose things tomorrow and maybe take my head off and swapp the lower intake?
hellion_79 10-10-2007, 09:44 PM Why swap the lower intake?
mg man 75 10-10-2007, 09:59 PM Been thinking on your problem. I assume you hook the braided ground cable from body to motor back up? Also have read that a another ground from battery ground to intake helps. Idea from turboford.net. Also I highly recommend the valve cover gasket from ford. This part # F57Z-6584-A It is the one with metal insert in the rubber. And it is reusable. I have done it. Also the intake gasket. # E59Z-9439-A. As far as lower I don't know if reusable or not. You can take the lower intake off without removing the head. Here is some more info. What to test if no codes. http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=44 Also this link has how to test all the sensors. htttp://rothfam.com/svo/reference/sensor.pdf Why doesn't link work someone help and fix. I tried to do a cut and past wouldn't work so I just wrote it down and typed it in.
TRBOPWR 10-10-2007, 10:03 PM It's acting up because it really wants an IC to complete the look.:D

It's acting up because it really wants an IC to complete the look.:D
Right now without the intercooler the car screams to 14 PSI[&:][&:][&:]:D
hellion, I'm going to have to take the lower off of the engine so I can put the coolent temp sensor on it. Also the oil pressure sending unit doesn't work so I'll just buy a mechanical oil pressure gauge and save money, and problems.
Mg man, thanks for the link, but all the sensors are working properly, I just think I have either a bad seal or something bad inside the head causing a miss (that could be the reason I'm making 10 PSI in park, and only 6 in in vacuum)
mg man 75 10-10-2007, 10:38 PM If remember correct done compression test. Found this pinout on the older computers you may have it. http://www.gt350mustang.com/eecspecsturbo.htm I also assume you soldered all connection. Note pin 25 and 43 Also the other two wire "t" into a wire you don't cut. You done this correct just humor me. From what i read common mistake. Good luck keep us informed.
92lxsleeper 10-10-2007, 10:39 PM you can't use the oil sneding unit off of the NA block?
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 10:40 PM Yup, I did all of that:D
But its always good to back track and see if I did do it (I soldered + heat shrinked all my connections)
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 10:46 PM I can't use the N/A oil pressure sender because it doesn't have the hole drilled in it for the turbo
mg man 75 10-10-2007, 11:00 PM I believe in the KISS method of working on things. Which means Keep It Simple Stupid. Which means to me eliminate the simple first usually solves the problem. Believe me I have been stupid more times than I can remember.
sleeper_inc 10-10-2007, 11:21 PM I know it can't be the ignition system (all worked on my other car, except the distributer which I'm switching over tomorrow)
SO on tomorrows plan
1. Take the lower intake off and put the coolant temp sensor in it
2. Swap the stock cam for my RR in the other engine
3. Tighten my coolant lines to the turbo (buy new radiator lines)
4. Replace my cam seal/valve cover seal
5. Look for more vacuum leaks
6. Pull old head off the other engine (port it, use it or sell it for $$$)
7. Go for a test drive:D
If it runs the same then I'll try and pull codes again
92lxsleeper 10-10-2007, 11:36 PM sounds like a kick ass plan my friend.

link fixed :D
Damn sleeper, you have a day ahead of you. I wish i had some stuff to work on my car[>:]I will once that fan gets here and I get the radio i am trading my turbo for soon so I will have some fun wiring up everything and making a custom plexy glass cover for the amp, power cap, subs, and fuses :)
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 12:09 PM Well I've got it down to timing now. The cam is lined up, VAM works (disconnected it and engine ran like ****) its my distributer (or TIF modual) thats messing the engine up, so I'm swapping my N/A distributer in when the engine cools off and also putting in the engine collant temp sensor
Dimetera 10-11-2007, 12:41 PM keep up the good work guys. only if i had of found this **** back when i owned my '89 coupe and i had fried my auto tranny. i would have thrown a 2.3Tin it anda new transmission. oh well keep the stuff coming along with pics. When i start my project ill post everything on the forum and hope your all there to help along the way.
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 01:54 PM Well I changed the distributer and it ran worse (idle its fine (cold)) but when it comes into the boost rang (around 1800 RPM) it starts to miss and spark isn't getting to the plugs, then it will miss when idling (warm) hmm... I wonder WTF is going on??
Mthd11 10-11-2007, 05:06 PM Cap and rotor?
hellion_79 10-11-2007, 05:42 PM ORIGINAL: Mthd11
Cap and rotor?
+1
how are your plug wires? Are the connected firm to your distributer to the plug and are not loose and wiggly?
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 06:06 PM Ok, got new gaskets for the top end and now it pulls 10in Vac. at idle (woo-hoo, I got brakes again:D)
Now my car kinda stumbles through 1800-3500RPM better, but its still there.
I had a tune up done on my other engine about 3 months ago (less than 300miles on it) so I just swapped it all over to this engine.
I know its either my timing or collent sensor thats causing this because it hits 15 PSI IN PARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (also sounds like a 2 step) so its really rich, causing fuel to ignight in the manifold, causing boost with no pressure. So now to find out what to do now. I'm not going to pis money at it to fix it, I really want to fix this with as little money as possible so I can get a T5 this weekend;)
Summmerized
- Runns better
- Pulls better vacuum at idle now
- Still makes tons of boost in park
- Runs rich
- Still needs tuning
Dimetera 10-11-2007, 06:08 PM how about your ignition coil? is it operating correctly? or is something overheating?
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 06:21 PM It should be working fine, it worked great with the N/A engine
92lxsleeper 10-11-2007, 07:55 PM coolant sensor would have nothing to do with it, as for it hitting high boost in park, i think your wastegate is stuck closed. and you need to check your timing, sounds like my old van did when i decided to play with the distributor, (loosen it up and run the car and twist it back and forth to see if it runs any smoother.)
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 07:57 PM My wastgate is fine (even with a bad wastgate it should not make more than 3 PSI in park!!!!!!!!!!) Also my timing is right, 10* with spout out (about 25 ish with it in)
I really want to know why my car is running so rich and cutting the sprak when it revs up....
92lxsleeper 10-11-2007, 08:27 PM injectors too big mabey??? something wrong with the computer, or just not the right computer?? not enough backpressure?
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 08:41 PM Turbo's + backpressure ='s less power or a blown up muffler
As for the injectors, they are the stock ones for that computer, I'll check the VAM and TPS tomorrow seeing as I have to do homework tonight[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]
Dimetera 10-11-2007, 08:52 PM I once had a simular problem with my 2.3 N/A coupe. the damn thing wouldnt run right for a damn week then i found a bad vac line and replaced it. still had issues so i reset the computer and when i reconnected the battery and fired her up she ran better than ever before. have you checked your connections and lines over?
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 08:56 PM It all ran fine from the old car (old car had a miss but it was due to either a bad HG between 2+3 or a vacuum leak)
Connections are good at the computer, at the vam IDK for sure, going to look at that connector tonight to see if I came or not.
I'm going through all my connection tomorrow to make sure everything is right and works. Also I should change my FPR, I saw gas in the vacuum line for it
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 09:33 PM Mg man, I got your connector today, to bad the post office was closed when I got it in the mail. I'll pick it up tomorrow and wire that sucker in;)
mg man 75 10-11-2007, 10:17 PM Glad to hear will use ups or someone else next time. Likeyou said 10 degrees ignition timing. But is belt timing correct? If already answer this sorry. Also could a cam be worn or cam foller cause some problems. Grasping at straws now. The link I gave you tells how to test vam. Have you test it? Also test o2 sensor if running rich. Have you tried unplugging fuel injectors one could be leaking thru all the time. Could test see if injector leaks thru. Redneck way to test.Remove them. Hook hose to inlet of injector. Hook air to the hose. Set air pressure to fuel pressure can't remember what that is now.And see if air leaks thru injector. No power at all to injector. Ps outside may have some gas in it. Be safe. Will need screw clamps to hold hose on.
sleeper_inc 10-11-2007, 10:29 PM The cam looks brand new (less than 10000 km's on it) the injectors are fine (if I take one off the engine runs like s-h-i-t) I'm 99.9% sure the cam timing is right, tomorrow I'll test the VAM for sure (just no time right now, have school tomorrow)
I'm stumped as to what the hell is causing all these problems... I'll buy some 10G wire tomorrow and rig up a ground to see if thats what causing the problems
mg man 75 10-11-2007, 10:44 PM I am stumped now. Will think more and see if can think of more. Replace that fpr gas in vac line will make run rich. You na will work. Also turbo engine spark gap is closer can't remember off top of my head.
flash517 10-11-2007, 10:48 PM I hope I don't have any problems with mine. It's taking me long enough to find a car. Let alone have so much time to get it together.

yeah thats true! try that.
gap should be .032 to .036, i heard that if you make it smaller then it will handle higher boost even better, i'm not sure though, but those gap numbers are from the factory service manual for the SVO, XR4TI
sleeper_inc 10-12-2007, 08:47 AM I bought TR5 spark plugs (NGK and replacments for the stock ones, gapped at .034)I'll dubble check all my wiring tday for anylose connections

but remember, if the wastegate was stuck closed, it could make full boost in park because the exhaust is not bypassing out of the turbo. it would be just like running down the highway and flooring it.
buckshot 10-12-2007, 01:28 PM if your fpr is putting gas into the vac lines theres your problem, it will be running pig rich, and the computer won't be able to lean it any further than it is, replace that sucker before you try fixing anything else!
mg man 75 10-12-2007, 05:10 PM No should not build boost in park. If you do it should be very little. You need the heat from load to get expansion of hot gas to spin turbo.
sleeper_inc 10-12-2007, 07:49 PM Well I got it to love the 1800-3500 RPM ranger (VAM wiring was wrong[:@] *kicks self in ass, balls, and head*) Now it still wont idle, and it still builds boost in park, ans only makes 10in vacuum, but I'm putting in my RR cam and see if that does anything.
BTW mg man, thats a lot of sites you gave me there[&:][&:][&:] lol thanks again, and if you need anything let me know;)
buckshot 10-12-2007, 07:59 PM if its running that rich its basically working like a 2 step, fuel burning in the manifold spinning up the turbo
sleeper_inc 10-12-2007, 08:05 PM Yup, I said that before, but I'm guessing its acting like a 2 step because of the lack of vacuum or because the cam is off (will find out when I swap it)
mg man 75 10-12-2007, 09:20 PM Glad I was able to help. That is about a 1/3 of the sites I have in books I copied pages off net. Andy now you know how I know where to look so fast. Need more info let me know. I would check cam timing. Try this video may help on cam timing. It is for a pinto motor but I think will work. Of Course stinger and rest have good info. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJXKzaq_5GUThat wiring can mess you if not careful. Counting those pin holes can get confusing. Especially for me At my age eyesight closeup not good as use to be.
sleeper_inc 10-12-2007, 11:25 PM I counted the pin connectors right, its just that all 4 wires that went to the computer for the VAM where all the same color[&:][&:] (aint paying $6 per roll of wire)
hellion_79 10-13-2007, 12:14 AM Lol, you ****ing cheap ass. Do the wiring right, if not it will bite you in the ass later.
sleeper_inc 10-13-2007, 12:27 AM $6 X 4 = $24
Which would mean no gas money[8D]
hellion_79 10-13-2007, 12:33 AM CHEAP ASS!!!
mg man 75 10-13-2007, 08:42 AM Isn't no big deal on all wire same color. Use permanant marker and mark differant colors, do one at a time, or use wire numbers [small label that go on wires]. Got master liscense in electrical. Done 68 communication cables in one pipe [all same color].Each cable 10 wires. You do the math how many wires to hook up at each end. No problem that is reason car wiring is easy to me.
sleeper_inc 10-13-2007, 10:04 AM Yeah, I got it figured out and it works so I'm not complaining[8D]
