I mounted my boost/vacuum gauge the other day out of bordom and the fact I have not done anything lately;)

Why is your Boost Gauge at your Knees? Its not in easy sight is it?[&o]

Its easy for me to see, but then again my head almost tuches my roof[:@] Its tilted towards me so its easier to see and who will always be looking at it? I'm just using it till I get a center heat mount (plus this cost me nothing to mount it there)

Bummer on the crack. I had my 1st one welded [brazed]. It was in the old wrecked mustang. I then put it the 89 forgetting that it was welded. Did't take long to remind me. The welding job was free and he told me it would be good just to test things. I know going to hate me. It reminds me I need to go get one in a junkyard that has only one bolt in it. Last time there bought the downpipe and 4 injectors off it for 8 dollars.

Yeah, I'm going to get it welded (both) and if they don't hold up I have enough money to buy a used bob's log

Ok time for an update...

Unkknown to you guy's and girls I have been having issues with the person who I bought the engine from. He has owed me the VAM, wiring harness and computer for a month and a half. Now I'm taking him to court to get $200 or the parts. I aint going to get rid of this engine and if he thinks I'm going to then he's smoking something way to strong[&:][&:][&:]

Anyways.... I have ordered a 1st gen bob's log for $110, I also found out my parents are going to buy me headlights for my car on my b-day (:D:D:D) I have also wired my fan up to a switch because my sensor almost cought fire a few days ago[&:][&:][&:][:@] oh well though. Its fixed now;)

you should talk to a body shop and tell them if you buy the paint and do the body work all they would have to do is paint it. Im doing that next summer with my Crimson red with Silverish flakes..Im copying macadoo's car I think that's the one. it's gunnah cost me about 400 with paint and the labour. . all I have to do is sand..there isn't much wrong with this body.

I have to sand everything down on my car with 200, then 220, then 400 and then look for anyplaces that need filler (I know there are at least 4 places)

Then I have to seal the metal so rust doesn't form (nutralize) then prime, then sealer, then paint[&:]

none of the places around here let you do that, if they paint it, they do the prep work.

A major cost saveer point. Altho not as much as a twin cam but should be more streetable and lot less cost. Maybe this winter look into. Know where several volvo cheap with turbo manifold etc.

Well I'm ordering a LB2 computer and a Large VAM to go with it for $110 (I don't need a trans for a few weeks now lol)

Well the LB computer and Large VAM fell through (no email back) So I bought a PK1 and small VAM. If anyone has a connecter I want it[8D];)

WRONG... Since they just gave you your license, they still have your liscense plate number and registration. They would call the cops on you and take that license right away.

id get the stock head ported, just make sure the porter knows his/her stuff. the esslinger N.A.S.H. head.. iv seen some complains but id probubly go with that before the volvo head unless of course you could cut the cost of the fabrication by doing the work you self if you happen to have the tools and skill. or geting a buddy who has the tools and skill to cut you a break.. vovlo conversion is expencive..

I used a plastic piece off my old intake. I'll see how it holds then if its not working I'll do what you did there MG man

Better make one out of metal. If notice iac has cork gasket. The factory gasket would not hold 20psi. when I test my intercooler piping with a test rig. I doubt a plastic piece will hold. If you make any intercooler piping make sure it has ridge at end to hold hoses on. I had mine blow off. Ps I tried the plastic intercooler pipe idea on internet. Blew it off several times and removed it. But I tell you what it is good ford. It makes a good cheap prototype to get welder to make out of metal .

It does make a good prototype. I put the EGR valve back on overtop of it and used RVT to seal it so I don't think it will blow off;)

Well I took the crank pully off last night. Damn was it a PITA!!!! (No air compresser so no impact wrench) Had to use a crow bar and a 5ft. pole to get the bolt off and then a puller to get the crank pully off[&:]

Still waiting for the computer and VAM so it looks like the swap wont be done this weekend[&o]

make sure u put some lock washers (crush washers) on the turbo-to-manifold bolts, or else they will come loose

Some one told me to use high temp lock tight[&:] I'll have to take a look at that

no, u wanna use anti seize for the nuts, along with lock washers. you will prolly end up getting a bigger turbo in the future and your gonna want to get it off without damaging the studs or bolts, or flange or whatever.

Anyways my car's rear now has P215/75R14, and holly **** these tires are tall!!!!!!!!! But I'm not getting a b-day presnt anymore because the tires took the headlights budget ($153.76) Oh well. Anyways thats the update, and I'll try and get one good last pull with my car.

Those are stock hight tires[&:][&:][&:] Stock on the mustang 4 bangers are P195/75R14, I just got wider ones[&:]

Also my speedo was already off, so its corrected a little;):D

they are a little bit taller sleeper. 195/75/14 215/75/14 take the first number (width in millemeters) multiply it by .75 (75 % profile) the 215's have a little bit taller profile.

Dont worry, I am pretty carful when it comes to speed. I can drive a car, ive came into a few situations that if I didnt know **** I would wrecked the car, like comin around a corner doin 55-65 and this car was pullin at and I had to rip the E-brake and slide around the car...

Well I went looking for the T-5 today and found.... nothing.... not even one at all the yards I was at (****!!!!!!) I found 2 C3's and 7 A4LD's. Oh well, I'll look again tomorrow and if I can't find one then I guess I'm going to have to grab either the C3 or try and use my A4LD for a few weeks (so I can buy another one)

New info, might have found a T5 from a 89 mustang. The guy wants $40 for it. Even if it is bad just spend a few hundred on a rebuild and put in a new transmission basicaly

no, i had thought i needed a standard crossmember, but when i went to buy it, i found out that i could use the single hump crossmember from my aod and reuse the aod tranny mount.

I'm going to buy the trans tonight if the guy's around.

All I need are the pedals, drive shaft, clutch cables, and a crossmember (can get that all on sunday when I have the engine in with the A4LD (temp till I get everything))

Next time, the motor will come out again this winter because of a rear main seal leak (small) that will be fixed (also I might buy new rods for it so I wont have to worrie down the line)

Wow sleeper, that turbo is loud! Few little things need to be done and it should be running very good. Work on that timing ;)

Glad to hear run. Did you do tune up. Remember all Motorcraft parts. Sounds like mine when I had fuel injector bad. To test. Just unplug them one at a time. The one that makes no difference is the bad one. Also make sure no vacumn leaks. Just cap off all vac lines and let idle see if any differences. I assume vac line is off the bap/map sensor.

I think somethings way off also because I only have 2 PSI of vacume at idle[:@] so either cam timing is off or timing is WAY off

hook a seperate vaccuum gauge to the vacuum tree to check your idle vacumm, should be like 18-20 psi vac.

Remember pin 49 ground to intake of turbo. Do not ground anywhere else. I personally think go other problems. I ran my car for awhile with no 49 wire. Made some difference but not much. Will look up injectors.

when you finally get the t5 for your car, give the A4LD as much hell as you can, that way we can all see how much abuse these really take.

Better, found 2 vacuum leaks (boost blow off a vacuum connection)

With new spark plugs, and the ground wire now attached it idles way smoother at 1000 rpm, but it still shock when throttle was held and its missing at 2000RPM+ so my conclusion is BAD INJECTOR!!!!! (****, I don't have this kinda money right now[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@][:@])

umm, stick your 2.3 NA injector on it for now, it might work temporarily.... junk yard one off of a 5.0 or a 3.8, or you could always stick the 2.3 NA back into it [8D] and join the slow club once again...

The 2.3 N/A isn't going back in there[&:][&:][&:] also the injectors off the car wont work (#14 PPH, and high impediance the merkur ones are #35 PPH and Low impediance)

How much are injectors? I can get you a B-day present :D

Well my tac is actting funny, maybe its because the battery s really low... anyways I'm going to call around as well and see if I can get all 4 injectors new for $100[8D]

What is tac? 58 dollars what I pd for 1. Find used ones I know hard to find. If going maf soon i think you will need to go to LA series computer and bigger injectors. May look to see if can use the bigger ones on your motor till go to LA computer. Hate to see buy new ones and later buy more. Haven't had chance to look see where mine are and what they are.

the next injectors I'll buy will be either 65pph or 1000cc injectors (95pph)

Ok, not able to pull codes off the PK1 computer, but I saw oil on my fenders (hood not on right now) I look around and see I have a bad valve cover seal, and a bad cam seal. Guess I'll replace thiose things tomorrow and maybe take my head off and swapp the lower intake?

Why swap the lower intake?

Been thinking on your problem. I assume you hook the braided ground cable from body to motor back up? Also have read that a another ground from battery ground to intake helps. Idea from turboford.net. Also I highly recommend the valve cover gasket from ford. This part # F57Z-6584-A It is the one with metal insert in the rubber. And it is reusable. I have done it. Also the intake gasket. # E59Z-9439-A. As far as lower I don't know if reusable or not. You can take the lower intake off without removing the head. Here is some more info. Mg man, thanks for the link, but all the sensors are working properly, I just think I have either a bad seal or something bad inside the head causing a miss (that could be the reason I'm making 10 PSI in park, and only 6 in in vacuum)

If remember correct done compression test. Found this pinout on the older computers you may have it. http://www.gt350mustang.com/eecspecsturbo.htm I also assume you soldered all connection. Note pin 25 and 43 Also the other two wire "t" into a wire you don't cut. You done this correct just humor me. From what i read common mistake. Good luck keep us informed.

But its always good to back track and see if I did do it (I soldered + heat shrinked all my connections)

I can't use the N/A oil pressure sender because it doesn't have the hole drilled in it for the turbo

I believe in the KISS method of working on things. Which means Keep It Simple Stupid. Which means to me eliminate the simple first usually solves the problem. Believe me I have been stupid more times than I can remember.

I know it can't be the ignition system (all worked on my other car, except the distributer which I'm switching over tomorrow)

SO on tomorrows plan
1. Take the lower intake off and put the coolant temp sensor in it
2. Swap the stock cam for my RR in the other engine
3. Tighten my coolant lines to the turbo (buy new radiator lines)
4. Replace my cam seal/valve cover seal
5. Look for more vacuum leaks
6. Pull old head off the other engine (port it, use it or sell it for $$$)
7. Go for a test drive:D

If it runs the same then I'll try and pull codes again

Been thinking on your problem. I assume you hook the braided ground cable from body to motor back up? Also have read that a another ground from battery ground to intake helps. Idea from turboford.net. Also I highly recommend the valve cover gasket from ford. This part # F57Z-6584-A It is the one with metal insert in the rubber. And it is reusable. I have done it. Also the intake gasket. # E59Z-9439-A. As far as lower I don't know if reusable or not. You can take the lower intake off without removing the head. Here is some more info. Damn sleeper, you have a day ahead of you. I wish i had some stuff to work on my car[>:]I will once that fan gets here and I get the radio i am trading my turbo for soon so I will have some fun wiring up everything and making a custom plexy glass cover for the amp, power cap, subs, and fuses :)

Well I've got it down to timing now. The cam is lined up, VAM works (disconnected it and engine ran like ****) its my distributer (or TIF modual) thats messing the engine up, so I'm swapping my N/A distributer in when the engine cools off and also putting in the engine collant temp sensor

Well I changed the distributer and it ran worse (idle its fine (cold)) but when it comes into the boost rang (around 1800 RPM) it starts to miss and spark isn't getting to the plugs, then it will miss when idling (warm) hmm... I wonder WTF is going on??

how are your plug wires? Are the connected firm to your distributer to the plug and are not loose and wiggly?

Ok, got new gaskets for the top end and now it pulls 10in Vac. at idle (woo-hoo, I got brakes again:D)

Now my car kinda stumbles through 1800-3500RPM better, but its still there.

I had a tune up done on my other engine about 3 months ago (less than 300miles on it) so I just swapped it all over to this engine.

I know its either my timing or collent sensor thats causing this because it hits 15 PSI IN PARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (also sounds like a 2 step) so its really rich, causing fuel to ignight in the manifold, causing boost with no pressure. So now to find out what to do now. I'm not going to pis money at it to fix it, I really want to fix this with as little money as possible so I can get a T5 this weekend;)

- Runns better
- Pulls better vacuum at idle now
- Still makes tons of boost in park
- Runs rich
- Still needs tuning

how about your ignition coil? is it operating correctly? or is something overheating?

It should be working fine, it worked great with the N/A engine

coolant sensor would have nothing to do with it, as for it hitting high boost in park, i think your wastegate is stuck closed. and you need to check your timing, sounds like my old van did when i decided to play with the distributor, (loosen it up and run the car and twist it back and forth to see if it runs any smoother.)

My wastgate is fine (even with a bad wastgate it should not make more than 3 PSI in park!!!!!!!!!!) Also my timing is right, 10* with spout out (about 25 ish with it in)

I really want to know why my car is running so rich and cutting the sprak when it revs up....

injectors too big mabey??? something wrong with the computer, or just not the right computer?? not enough backpressure?

As for the injectors, they are the stock ones for that computer, I'll check the VAM and TPS tomorrow seeing as I have to do homework tonight[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]

I once had a simular problem with my 2.3 N/A coupe. the damn thing wouldnt run right for a damn week then i found a bad vac line and replaced it. still had issues so i reset the computer and when i reconnected the battery and fired her up she ran better than ever before. have you checked your connections and lines over?

It all ran fine from the old car (old car had a miss but it was due to either a bad HG between 2+3 or a vacuum leak)

Connections are good at the computer, at the vam IDK for sure, going to look at that connector tonight to see if I came or not.

I'm going through all my connection tomorrow to make sure everything is right and works. Also I should change my FPR, I saw gas in the vacuum line for it

Glad to hear will use ups or someone else next time. Likeyou said 10 degrees ignition timing. But is belt timing correct? If already answer this sorry. Also could a cam be worn or cam foller cause some problems. Grasping at straws now. The link I gave you tells how to test vam. Have you test it? Also test o2 sensor if running rich. Have you tried unplugging fuel injectors one could be leaking thru all the time. Could test see if injector leaks thru. Redneck way to test.Remove them. Hook hose to inlet of injector. Hook air to the hose. Set air pressure to fuel pressure can't remember what that is now.And see if air leaks thru injector. No power at all to injector. Ps outside may have some gas in it. Be safe. Will need screw clamps to hold hose on.

The cam looks brand new (less than 10000 km's on it) the injectors are fine (if I take one off the engine runs like s-h-i-t) I'm 99.9% sure the cam timing is right, tomorrow I'll test the VAM for sure (just no time right now, have school tomorrow)

yeah thats true! try that.

gap should be .032 to .036, i heard that if you make it smaller then it will handle higher boost even better, i'm not sure though, but those gap numbers are from the factory service manual for the SVO, XR4TI

I bought TR5 spark plugs (NGK and replacments for the stock ones, gapped at .034)I'll dubble check all my wiring tday for anylose connections

but remember, if the wastegate was stuck closed, it could make full boost in park because the exhaust is not bypassing out of the turbo. it would be just like running down the highway and flooring it.

if your fpr is putting gas into the vac lines theres your problem, it will be running pig rich, and the computer won't be able to lean it any further than it is, replace that sucker before you try fixing anything else!

No should not build boost in park. If you do it should be very little. You need the heat from load to get expansion of hot gas to spin turbo.

Well I got it to love the 1800-3500 RPM ranger (VAM wiring was wrong[:@] *kicks self in ass, balls, and head*) Now it still wont idle, and it still builds boost in park, ans only makes 10in vacuum, but I'm putting in my RR cam and see if that does anything.

Yup, I said that before, but I'm guessing its acting like a 2 step because of the lack of vacuum or because the cam is off (will find out when I swap it)

Glad I was able to help. That is about a 1/3 of the sites I have in books I copied pages off net. Andy now you know how I know where to look so fast. Need more info let me know. I counted the pin connectors right, its just that all 4 wires that went to the computer for the VAM where all the same color[&:][&:] (aint paying $6 per roll of wire)

Isn't no big deal on all wire same color. Use permanant marker and mark differant colors, do one at a time, or use wire numbers [small label that go on wires]. Got master liscense in electrical. Done 68 communication cables in one pipe [all same color].Each cable 10 wires. You do the math how many wires to hook up at each end. No problem that is reason car wiring is easy to me.
