Default '05 GT VS. '06 WRX STI

I had a young kid in a '06 WRX STI pop up beside me the other day and he wanted to see what the S197 was made of. I have read up on the WRX's and the stats are impressive, but the road was clear, the light was red, and he was eager. I had a bad hole shot and he took me by nearly a car out from the dig, but I made itup by the top of second gear. When I shifted third I passed him and he shut down and dropped way back behind me. A few miles down the road I noticed him coming up hard again and the light turned red just before I got there. He changed over to the right lane and said "one more time", so being the nice guy that I am, I abliged. I had a good hole shot this time. I had him by a fender; shifted to second and had him by a half; shifted into third and stepped on over a car and it was over. I was impressed with the Stang. I am all stock except for K&N drop in, MGW shifter, and axle back exhaust. According to the specs on the STI they are nearly 300HP and 300 torque with 1/4 times of 13 sec @ 103mph, so it may have been a drivers race, but a win is a win.

good kill man. They will normally pull away, but we end up reeling them in.

errr... you had him by a fender out of the hole? that doesn't sound right for a turbo'd AWD unless he didn't launch the car at all, or you have more mods you're not telling us about.

I would have schooled you and I suck... an STI/EVO still spanks my ass off the line and makes me work for it (in fact I don't think I've caught up to an Evo/STI anywhere within the 1/8th mile.. Good kill but something was up with the driver/car because those results are far from typical.

Agree with nanaki. The STI driver didn't launch properly. A stock STI can do a 13 sec quarter, butonly if it's revved really high and the clutch is dumped. Many STI ownerseither do not want to abuse their cars that way, or they don't know how to launch.
Buthey, 2 wins are 2wins. Good kills.

yeah, exactly. even with a small launch or no launch he should have pulled you a bit from the hole. i raced a modified evo and they got me out of the hole pretty hard, but right after i hit 2nd, i blew right by them.

What do stock 05+ GT's run, on average? Mid 13's? An STI on average runs maybe a few tenths quicker. Anytime you put two cars together that are that close, it's a driver's race. I expect to hear about equal kill stories from both sides.

Good kill.

not disputing the fact that it was the results one should expect. i'm just disputing what he said on the launch. an AWD turbo should easily jump ahead by more than a car and certainly not get beat out of the hole, even if it was just a fender.
