Default 3.8L poor gas mileage 13 MPG

2001 mustang 3.8L
72K miles
The car idles great and seems to run really well but the gas mileage is about 13 mpg. At the higher speeds it seems to lack power. I did the basics new wires, plugs, MAF,a lazy O2 sensor and cleaned EGR ports. Vacuum is at 20 and goes to almost 0 as I increase speed.

is that 13 city? that isn't terribly uncommon especially if you are driving it hard. drive less aggressive and you will see a major improvement. you should also seafoam the engine, as I saw significant mileage gains after doing so at 79k. Search for seafoam and there will be ton of threads for how to.

Other things to try: fuel filter, air filter, clean T.B, fuel system cleaner, tire pressure at least 35psi. Driving environment, and driving style are big factors. If you think its losing power at higher speeds, it might be a clogged fuel filter. It also might be benefical get the trans flushed(auto) and change the gear oil in the rearend. If you have a 5spd change it with some Royal Purple synthetic products, and same for the axel.

appreciate the humor
I bought the car used and don't drive the car hard. If anything I am very conservative. This is my third mustang in the driveway. I have replaced all the things you might think of: fuel filter, plugs, wires, O2 sensors. I have had two shops run scan tools on the car but no luck. I ran multiple cans of Seafoam through the system (both tank and brake booster line). I even took off the upper plenum and cleaned the ports. Now the car is killing when coming to a stop (not all the time). It feels like the car is sluggish due to fuel being dumped into the system. The techs seem to think it might be the vapor canister or a vacuum leak. Eventhough I have tested the vaccum at idle they think I could have a small crack in a hose that only causes the problem at high speeds.
Does anyone know how to get a copy of a vacuum diagram for 2001 mustang 3.8L?
